  1. He's a star and had another great season.Even on a broken leg at the end he was still one of our best players! He's lead the league in score involvements over the past three seasons now. When he gets going, he's unstoppable both around the ball and forward half of the ground. If he can tidy up his set shots for goal, he'll be the undisputed best player in the league. It's the only flaw in his game, which is otherwise outstanding. Love what Trac brings off the field too. He's very friendly, marketable, and a good role model for the youngsters. Great to have him signed up long term!

  2. The AFL are turning our sport into a circus. Just create a fixture as fair and even as possible please! What is a magic round? how is it magic? playing on B grade ground with no crowds and getting injuries? People say it replaces practice games? We will just have more intraclub games, we still need to prepare the players for AFL footy. I find it embarrassing.

  3. I don't think the ambiguity about the $500,000 is the biggest crime against the English language in Tom Browne's tweet. By my reading, the Magic Round was played in SA yesterday afternoon. Where's the write up of the result of our game?

  4. I love watching the women play, it's honestly more fun than watching the men. They go in so hard and play the ball aggressively through the middle This is our year. Make no mistake Our BnF will be named after the pioneer Daisy P

  7. Just the bit about there not being enough suitable ovals in the City of Adelaide and therefore the need to schedule some of the games to be played at selected regional venues. I've heard they're considering Snowtown with the names of the two competing clubs to be drawn from a barrel.

  8. Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere on DL. It is a great article on our tactics after quarter time of the Crows game. t-hanks-for-the-win-how-the-dees-turned-the-tables-on-the-crows The key? "But it all started with the Demons' changes in the middle, and the willingness of Tyla Hanks to sacrifice her own game to create opportunities for her ball winning teammates". It sounds very similar to the attitude of the AFL team in 2021. Hopefully, the girls can deliver the same prize 🏆🙃

  9. Good to see Salem moving/running like that - perhaps a sign that the o.p that has plagued him for nearly two years might be fixed.

  12. That's why I put Max Gruzewski as that target with our second pick. Plays forward and back, strong hands and a good size albeit on the lower height of a KF at 193cm's. I see a bit of Steven May about him. I'm sure Jefferson will be a decent KF who has been touted as the second best KF, but I rate Gruzewski higher, simply because he's ready to go, has that mongrel about him and can play both ends and he's fallen down the draft order as he was injured mid year so is a bit of an unknown.

  16. More footy and more money for the club and people still complain. We're 10-5 at Adelaide Oval, so this could be a win for us as well quite possibly. We're spoiled in Melbourne with a semi-Magic Round most weeks, spare a thought for the footy loving fans of SA and WA who usually only get 1 AFL game a week, they'll be rapt with this.

  17. I’ve only seen very little of this year’s draftees, but I don’t think I’d pick him with any selection and I would be shocked (given how Melbourne play footy) if he was on our list of potential draftees. As a big guy he has some good little guy skills …. but that isn’t the role we’d need him to play. We need big guys with good big guy skills, players who compete in the marking contest and compete in the ruck contest. He’s a small player stuck in a big player’s body. I’m sure someone could take a chance on him …. but it wouldn’t be me. Apparently not Adelaide either.

  19. Wow, 2 picks in the upcoming draft. I can hardly contain my excitement and there is still over 2 weeks to go. Wonder if Uncle Bitter will be stocking up on wine casks to help get him through the 2 night draft marathon. It is riveting TV, waiting for Gill to come out and announce the names and then hear Shifter Sheehan say that every player drafted is a great footballer. Then the player is interviewed and they say how much they like their new club and are so happy to go to the other side of the country, ( until they return ) a couple of years later. Then the panel dissects every player picked. You can’t make this stuff up, no one would believe it. Then the 10 hours of draft TV are endlessly replayed in case you missed something. Gotta love it. Bring it on.

  20. Same here dc. Chaplin, McNamara, Zanker, Hanks, Purcell, Heath, Gillard, Mackin, and BANNAN all 23 or younger. And Harris, Hore, Birch, West, Sherriff, Lampard and Mithen all in the 24-25 age range. If they keep playing together for 5 years - they will be a force throughout.

  21. Pretty sure channel 7 and Foxtel would've loved the idea when the AFL told them about an extra round of games just prior to signing off on the new tv rights a couple of months back.

  23. The Mens comp has a fair head start on the womens comp and to say that the AFLW is a token competition is complete ignorance. I love my football, I coach my daughters team and have done so for the last 5 years and each year the standard gets better. In fact I also started yesterday with a rival AFL clubs Next Generation program yesterday as 7 of my girls are in their squad. The young girls coming thru are incredibly passionate about the game and the skills and their footy IQ is strong. The game is in great shape. I said it in an earlier post in my opinion our AFLW team play a much watchable brand of football than our male team. PM me if you want details of the Chelsea Girls next training session, you can come down and hold the tackle bag if you like.

  25. While it is good to see the players hard it at it already I wonder about the wisdom of it. There was a fair bit of evidence that we kept the training up in the 2021/2022 pre-season and even Max said it was like 2021 and 2022 rolled into one long season. This seemed to impact our ability to play out games after the mid point this season.. Acknowledging the short break after the GF contributed to this but not sure we had the balance right last year. Hope this year we have learnt from that and re-balanced the training regimes.

  26. ...which is very timely, as there is yet another break in MFC's pretty successful 'On-And-On-It-Goes Year', which I take @Demonstone's lead in filling with a Demonstone-patented conundrum. I'm surprised how many years Brian had to go back to fill the 23. Here it is: B: S. SMITH A. TOMLINSON T. RIVERS HB: D. TERLICH J. RIVERS O. MCDONALD C: C. ELLIS C. OLIVER A. MCDONALD HF: B. MCLEAN T. SMITH B. VINCE F: M. COLLINS T. MCDONALD C. SYLVIA R: T.SIMMONDS C. PETRACCA J. VINEY IC: M. CLISBY, M. COLLINS, N. SMITH, L.WILLIAMS MS: T. DAVIS The common theme? PMs only, please

  32. I have just re-read through Kevin Sheean’s list of tall forwards / rucks and he has listed 27 players that fit the category which surprised me a bit. So TL / JT will have players available at each pick if that is the way they are tracking.!!

  35. Just looking at a recent 'Knightmare' phantom draft and saw that Adelaide have a F/S, Max Michanney which 'Knightmare' is suggesting a bid at #31. Adelaide will need points to match that bid and may need to trade out some of its 2023 picks.. So another legit reason for the Crows to not nominate Keeler.

  36. Essendon has lost a lot of players over the last few years - Daniher, McDonald-Tipungwuti, Fantasia, McKenna, Saad. None of them were there during the supplements scandal. That one of them now wants to come back (and McKenna might be another) confirms in my mind that the Bombers had significant cultural problems in the last few years which may now be in the past. The appointment of Brad Scott, plus other changes, suggests that Essendon just might be getting its act together. I hope so, not because I want Essendon to perform well on-field, but because every footballer deserves the chance to have a happy workplace wherever they are.

  38. From: The West Australian (yesterday) AFL Draft 2022: West Coast show interest in son of former Fremantle skipper Ben Allan West Coast could swoop on the son of a Fremantle legend in Ed Allan with the club being linked to the big-bodied Claremont midfielder. Allan is the son of inaugural Fremantle captain Ben Allan, who played 47 games for the Dockers as well as 98 for Hawthorn. Rival clubs believe the Eagles have shown strong interest in Allan who has bolted to a position where he is expected to go anywhere between 10 and 20 despite stress fractures in his back limiting him to just five colts games this season at the Tigers. Several clubs including Carlton, Western Bulldogs, Sydney, Melbourne and Greater Western Sydney are also keen on the 194cm midfielder.

  40. On my first reading, I thought this meant that each player would have a choice as to whether they would be available to play the game. On a second reading, I think it's meant to mean that the players as a group have given the AFL their consent to proceed with the structural change of abolishing one pre-season game and replacing it with an extra Home and Away round. No wonder Tom Browne's earlier tweet had syntax problems. He must have gone to the same school as whoever wrote the above.

  41. I’d be happy if WCE choose Allan with pick 8 or 12. It would increase our chances of Hewitt, Phillipou or Hollands being available which would be a huge win to get either of these 3 youngsters.

  42. This makes complete sense, they want an equal comp with no home ground advantage so they play this extra round in one state. I assume the rest of the fixture is balanced and fair yeah? The draw will be random with teams pulled out of a hat?? Pies playing at Kardinia park next year?

  44. That's fantastic @dee Viney. Good on you for contributing to the game. I think it's really underestimated how important women's football can be to the AFLs future. The younger kids both boys and girls can access most games in a quiet family environment at the moment. There's definitely some fantastic role models in our women's team to get kids following the Demons and help build our membership base into the future.
