  1. My mail is he is leaning towards staying and biggest decision relates around length of contract. The money is not an issue, he knows he will be well paid and the next contract is the big one I anticipate a 2 year extension

  4. Farmer played 118 games in 6 years for 259 goals at Melbourne. He played 131 in 6 years for 224 goals for Fremantle. He was as good for them as he was for us. A remarkable player that you aren't doing justice to

  6. What's with this pressure to return home by young adults to be near family and friends? Our kids buzzed off to pursue careers and other things and have made new friends wherever they went. And without the sort of money in the bank that AFL players can have (if they have any sense). They still keep in touch with old friends and family which these days is 1000 times easier than it was only 25 years ago. Do footy players never grow up? Yeah, I'm probably a rotten parent.

  8. This is just about the only deal I would agree to with Freo. It also keeps Gus at Melbourne for life, which is a win win. Andy Brayshaw alongside Clarry, Trac and Viney.... who cares if we don't even have a ruckman?! In all seriousness, this feels a lot like the Hogan situation and I am convinced beyond doubt that Jackson will grow to regret this decision.

  9. He's certainly in good form that's for sure. I've watched most Casey games this year and his physicality and strength for an 18 year is bloody scary. Not only that, he's shown that he's got the forward smarts and leading patterns to succeed at AFL level. 10 games in the VFL for 20 goals speaks for itself. Had he been drafted to a bottom 8 club I have no doubt that he would be playing AFL. I don't mind him learning his craft at VFL, but I really do hope he gets a taste of AFL this year because with a full pre season behind I can easily see him being in our best 22 next year. Big call, but sometimes you just watch certain players go about it and they just 'have it'.

  13. The chances of him playing again this season, based solely on the injury - Lisfranc disruption - are negligible. Part of this is down to loss of fitness whilst weight-bearing is limited and the catch-up then required. That it wasn’t a Lisfranc fracture bodes well however for next season.

  14. Said the latest injury setback just made him realise he doesn't have it in him to go through the recovery. Has some good opportunities waiting for him outside of footy. He seems at peace with the decision and I am sure the club will continue to support him through the transition this year.

  15. Jesus we are quick to turn on our own so drastically. Only just the weekend many were praising his performance as an individual. Next minute people are pretty much are calling him a [censored] for possibly wanting him to go home to his family. Whilst I would be disappointed if he left I would not begrudge him for going home if that was the case. No ONE even knows what his current circumstance may be. Even if he is missing his family we shouldn't be so quick judge and put the kid down. For all we know he may just be struggling with home sickness and potentially that's affected his mental health to some degree. Disappointing to read on here the so called parents are the ones questioning Jackson's character. Times have changed and just because your kids may have adjusted moving out, some don't adjust as easily.

  16. I really don't get it either. You're 20. You're living in the best city in Australia. You are making lots of money. You have lots of friends. Borders are open. You are winning and winning well. What is the lure to come home? You have your whole life to live a boring life in WA, but only a short time to learn from the best ruckman in the competition and play with the best midfield in the competition. I understand players with kids, partners etc who might have pressure from their spouse to be closer to family for the sake of the kids. Jackson is 20. He will never have a better life than he does now. Young people have no idea how good they have it sometimes. I swear!

  18. Seriously i am more interested in those original 12,000 Members who did not sign up when Peter Jackson first arrived. i hope they are all Members now. A strong finish to this year and we will have more Kids in Demons Gear going to school So important

  19. That isn't really correct. They need to use a first round draft pick and it doesn't matter if it is #1 or #18. As I have mentioned before, Eagles could split pick #2 for say two lower top 10 picks and offer us one of them (and some other combo of 2022 and 2023 picks). They then use the other themselves and abide AFL rules. With Freo, it is exactly the same this year for Jackson as it was for Cerra last year but in reverse. If they can't get the deal we want done, then Jackson doesn't go to Freo. Cerra and his manager did a sensible thing for himself and for his club by not nominating a Victorian club until his manager knew which Vic club could get the deal done. By all accounts he wanted to come to the dees but we couldn't get the deal done so he went to Carlton. Hopefully, Jackson and his manager have the same integrity that Cerra did and find the club that can do the deal before nominating one.

  20. Goody said in his presser it shouldn't say 10-12 weeks, he's more likely 6-7 weeks and they're expecting him to play a big role in the back end of the season. Link:

  21. BBB’s role with no other recognised talk forward becomes even more important, difficult, and unrewarding. He know has to shoulder most of the load being the out kick up the wing, which gets him out of the forward line and leading at the footy. If you ever ask yourself ‘Where’s BBB??’ - was there a long kick to a contest 5 seconds before? Jackson helps with this, and Gawn and Jackson will allow BBB to actually spend some time forward other than when there is a stoppage and we can reset everyone. Biased, because I am a forward, but he played on one of the best defenders in the game and drew him out and allowed us to have 38 scoring shots. This team is about roles and BBB was performing his role, something that someone has to do while TMac is out.

  22. My big worry if he goes is that Melbourne will do the honourable thing and respect his wishes then settle for an ok deal. They REALLY have to scorch Freo on this. Impede them from getting better in the next few years.

  24. ‘Edited Reason: Nonsense’ Was that to remove or add? Seriously, people, can we just calm down with the speculation on character until you know what he actually will do. He is an absolute gun and this is what happens to all clubs when you have someone like this.

  26. As his parents I would absolutely advise him to stick it out. There are no guarantees in life. He might hate Freo. He might struggle to fit in. His mates at home might distract him the way Hogan's did. He might go to West Coast and never win another flag. Sometimes when you have something good right in front of you, you have to grasp it with both hands. If he was my son I tell him to get over it and have it in your contract that you can spend your off season in Perth every year. Done deal.

  27. I don't buy the argument that the EBA is holding things up. Jako could easily commit to the club, and just say that the details have to be finalised. Goody's comments suggest that there is no commitment from Jackson to re-sign.

  30. Any trade on LJ will be a big loss really. However if that trade helped keep Gus and Oliver then I suppose that needs to be considered as part of things as well, however sad I felt about it. But we would then head into 2023 then needing both a ruck and a key forward, with our season at massive risk to a Gawn injury. My own gut feeling is that he leaves...but that as he matures he lives to regret it. Genuine flag windows like the one we're in dont come along that often ...and for some players not at all. He's cutting off maybe 3 more years of playing in that possibility. Its not that I wouldnt wish him well....and I could rewatch the end of the 3rd to remind me , but I would be hoping he doesn't get to play in another premiership.

  33. Haven't given up on retaining him but doesn't sound great at the moment. If he does decide to leave, I can only hope he looks after us as much as Cerra looked after freo. We spent pick 3 and have him as a centre piece for life post Max. Luke leaving would disrupt our list management significantly and would result in us needing to maximise our return from him to cover our ruck and tall depth issues. So if he's truly deciding between us and his family back in WA, then he should be open to both clubs and look after our interests by dealing with the club that presents the best trade offer to us. It's the least he can do after we have given him the start to a career which includes a premiership and tutelage under the best ruck in the game.

  34. I don't think I'm saying anything profound, but draft picks are a lottery. Pick 3's who have proved themselves are not. I'm not sure how many top 5 picks = Jackson. If there is a trade, surely a fair deal requires both picks and an established good player.

  36. I'd like to look at Sam Hayes from Port Adelaide. 205cm ruckman who was an All Australian ruckman at under 18 level. Has had past history of knee concerns very similar Max Gawn at the same age. Though, he is contracted to Port until 2023. Matthew Flynn from GWS who we put in a bid for in the 2015 draft is also someone else I'd look at potentially.

  38. If the opportunity is there at the end of the year to grab for 2 years I would jump at it in a heart beat. His leadership alone improves us significantly and he would play a great mentoring role on JVR. 3x premiership player, 3x leading goalkicker and All Australian forward.

  40. Tipping Trac's got a 30 possession / 4.0 goal game coming up within the next few weeks. Not too fussed about Clarry. He's a non goal kicking midfielder who's job is to supply the goals more so than kick them himself.

  43. Not sure it was week after week but after a slow start in 2017 and then again in 2018 I think JKH was often in the 30's and occasionally 40's. From what I can remember Stretch was more a mid to high 20's on the wing at Casey

  45. The 3rd and most important goal, came from a 5 metre pass, after a blatant free to us, for an Adelaide player dropping the ball was ignored. That of course was followed by the most blatant deliberate out of bounds, in the history of the game, by an Adelaide defender, was again ignored by a scared umpire, too afraid of the Adelaide crowd to do his job.

  46. Nick Larkey is the guy to go for in the next couple of years imo. He's 24. Norf will be going absolutely nowhere for his entire football career. That's almost a dead cert. Forget about playing finals, if he wants to know what even winning games is like, he will not see out his career at Norf (jake bowey about to go past him on wins) . Rfa end 2024. No reason to think he would cost big coin, he'll be wanting out.

  47. Carlton have Curnow, McKay & De Konig all out of contract next year, if we lose Jacko, I’d be trying very to shake one of those loose with that money. At that point we could offer the dollars and success. Carlton could be stretched with the dollars. McKay & Curnow will be RFAs.
