  1. I feel for Viney and Lever, they too will have to go back to Casey to earn their spots back in the side.

  2. Can we stop saying T Mac to the wing?? He has lost any agility he had. Average field kick etc. he plays key fwd or back or at Casey

  3. Imagine that, Dunstan plays a 30 posse cracker! The " changes thread" would blow up!

  4. Some posters on this forum are no better with their use of such childish, cringeworthy terms as "Whorethorn", "West Coke", "Essendrug" and "Jeelong".

  5. Why would Brown be in the VFL? He’s our best forward by a long bloody way. He was one of the main reasons we broke our drought last year. Tmac and Weid can fight it out for the second spot in the forward line as they’ve both been underwhelming.

  6. Am a regular podcast listener, and while they do laugh a bit too hard at their own jokes, there are some real gems in there. It remains rough and the sponsorship segments make my skin crawl (I know they are a semi pi$$ take but still). But overall I love the roughness and relative honesty in a very cultured media landscape. Off the cuff points I got out of some recent episodes: 1, So Fraser Rosman is the 3rd biggest kick in the club after May (and (Hunt’s 70m torp), was definitely excited to hear this. 2, They do give very big hints about team selection, Dunstan seemed a monty after listening. 3, You get a sense of dynamics between the players, they scratch the surface beyond sound bites about how players get along and I find that super interesting. 4, Max’s ability (and it is an incredible asset in a leader) to admit ignorance and learn (his grammar and general knowledge is woeful) is extraordinary, demonstrates humility and confidence in equal measure, truly amazing individual and that honesty of his is a really good way to get a bunch of different individuals around the same cause, cannot go on about this enough. 5, Listening to stories involving other players / Sandy Dragons / I find super informative. 6, Gibby being the straight man, wish him every success seems a very decent human. Anyone else there that thinks it is a good insight into clubland?

  7. That decision to hand pass instead of taking the set shot is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen.

  11. One minor positive from Lever being out with covid protocols is that he has an extra week to get completely over his rolled ankle or whatever it was.

  12. Cotchin kicks Selwood - nothing Hawkins clearly fakes a push in the back - nothing Hawkins clearly pushes Harris Andrew’s in the back - nothing and Brad Scott wants people to understand the dissent rule. Get the other clear cut rules sorted imv.

  13. Yes, let’s wait until then for well thought opinion and also on whether Demonland takes @WERRIDEE’s house as agreed earlier in the week if Brown is playing. But my bet is Andy needs to go and organise the locksmith…

  14. But that was not how the rule was explained by Scott this week. So are the rules changing on the fly? The rule was brought in to reduce umpire abuse and disrespect. Why not just say the rule is don’t talk to the umpire? Because that is a very simple rule to follow. I don’t see what he did as complaining. You do. This is where the rule is too grey and personal and can’t be consistently umpired. Edit: do you think that players should be penalized if they ask the umpire for a holding the ball or a deliberate out of bounds free? Because often players put their arms out/up and question if there is a free to be paid. Is that dissent if the umpire chooses not to pay it?

  15. Only a handful of years ago we had zero quality depth. I shakes me head at how times have changed!

  16. Pretty sure I’d actually prefer to be missing Viney and Lever than Martin and Grimes, and that’s saying something.

  18. BBB plays. I have a reliable source. And so he should. He is an incredibly talented player who North lost their minds and let go. He has also added contested marking to his game and no longer needs to always lead into space to mark. Last year we saw him come close to what made him top the H and A goal scoring 3 years in a row in a bottom team. I also think he will get better and we may get another six years out of him and perhaps with our great midfield he will win a Coleman in the not too distant future.

  21. He is better than that and his Form at Casey has been solid if unspectacular. Sometimes players who can play do not shine in lower levels. I expect Dunstan to be very solid and link up well taking Vineys spot

  26. Hope Weid has a good game , but he needs to show he can play consistently at this level. People forget he was given a block of 5 games last year and pretty much got consistently worse until he was banished after the QB game.

  27. Can we hold of coz I now can put four Green Townhouses on it., Wait... no I got enough money to plonk a Red Hotel on it straight away and charge anyone who lands on it TOP DOLLAR. Just one question Werridee, what color street should I designate your house on the DEMONOPOLY BOARD?? I can reveal that Uncle Bitter thinks his Manor the Equivalent of Mayfair, but I remain just a tad skeptical! I am Uh also interested in selling a Magnificent parcel of land right on Casey Feilds. In fact it is the same spot behind the fence that I do my training reports from. It would be designated as Old Kent Rd on the DEEMONOPOLY board but I'll take an offer!?

  32. My son plays in under 10s team and I see very little arguing with the umpires at that age. Basically none. That’s because arguing with the umpire isn’t human nature, it’s human conditioning.

  35. Grimes out is a big loss for them, as is Pickett who played well in last years game against us. Not sure if Balta is carrying an injury, I think their defense will really be under the pump. Also Cotchin is going to be feeling the burn tonight, they really don’t have enough run, I feel a big 3rd qtr coming and some dodgy tactics in the ruck. Ever since Dimma slagged off Schwartz I have been wanting us to rag doll this team. I feel sorry for Tmac who has been close but if it means Sam finally finds some confidence it is a worthwhile investment.

  36. Channel 7 just said both Lever and Viney could have technically played since the close contact rules ease tonight but they haven’t trained this week so we are being cautious. I have no doubt we are giving Lever a rest with that foot. Just hope Viney doesn’t have any foot issues again which we are disguising as Covid related protocols. It does appear as tho the easing of close contact rules will apply thru the AFL for the relevant states. Suck it WA 😂

  37. Imagine putting in a poor performance for us with Salem, Viney, Lever, TMac, Hibberd, Tomlinson, Melksham, Bedford, Chandler, Majak, and Mitch Brown ready to come in. In all seriousness that is half of an AFL quality side ready to go.

  38. Lucky guess more then anything lol When Goodwin pumped up Weideman after the Giants game in reference to BB selection I knew straight away Tmac was in trouble.

  39. I got it wrong about Tmac. Well done to those that got it right. I'm not convinced by Weed - but i am convinced that there is no way he gets selected this week if he was not meeting the coaches' expectations re: work rate and intensity. Well done Weed - i hope he grabs his opportunity with both hands.

  40. Should be a good game tonight. I reckon the return of Toby will ignite the Giants and bring St Kilda back down to earth. The sainters have been getting a bit ahead of themselves

  41. We should get him. Love to win the flag and hear them call out Tom Scully and then Howes.

  42. I'd say Bowey is playing Salem's quarter back role. Gus is adding more defensive stability back there by providing extra cover to the wingers, and enabling our defenders to zone off and rebound strongly as Gus is a good 1v1 player, particularly in the air. He can take good defensive field position and plug holes when our other players attack or zone.

  43. I totally agree that Brayshaw has all the tools to take Viney's place, but disagree (politely) with everyone that he should. Salem's QB role and he is a defender not not a mid, is really crucial, that is why Brayshaw should stay defensive and not go into the middle. Of everyone named Gus is the best to fill in the Salem role. Smith can be a poor man's Lever, and it is a fair time for Dunstan to come in and rotate with Sparrow. I want our defence as stable as possible so with Lever out, keep Gus down back for now.

  46. I reckon in the past 18 months this team has taught me more about what it takes to be a great football team than anything I learnt from any other team anywhere since 1964. We seem to be in the eye of a perfect storm that has taken since the end of 2007 to realise. There are so many parts to the equation that without any one part you don't end up being where we are now. I didn't know half those parts until recently. Roosy said before he took the job that the key elements to a successful team were :- - list management/recruiting, - development/conditioning, - coaching. It's fair to say we've learnt the lesson the hard way that list management/recruiting is meaningless without the right development built around it. Cale Morton & Jack Grimes in '07, Watts '08, Scully Trengove '09 were generally regarded in the industry as the players that should have gone at those picks. Who knows what the first 3 might have achieved under the development and culture we now have. There were some nasty misses in the recruiting other than them which cost us many years of development but hindsight doesn't help. In '07 Dangerfield went 10 but 5 other teams didn't take him either. Cyril Rioli went 12 but 10 other teams didn't pick him either. In '08 I'd still have taken Watts over Nic Nat especially given we ended up with Maxy shortly after and Watts ended up being Fritsch. Blease at 17 was a bit nasty when Luke Shuey went the next pick and Jamie Bennell at 35 when we had told Rory Sloane 44, we were taking him at that pick. In '09 Dusty went the pick after Trengove but I doubt he would be the player he is today if he'd gone to us and probably would have left years ago like he nearly did at the Tigers to go to GWS on big bucks and be with his father. Gysberts at 11 was a bit nasty with Daniel Talia 13 & Lewis Jetta 14 (although Melksham 10 has made up for that) Tapscott 18 when Nat Fyfe went 20. When Bails was appointed at the end of 2007 the first thing he said is that it generally takes five years of a group of players playing together to become a contender. I believe this still holds true. Unfortunately that led to his first major mistake which was the philosophy of getting rid of any player that wasn't going to be there in 5 years. It's taken until probably the past 18 months to recover from the vacuum of leadership and experience that created. It's also 5 years of being taught and executing the same evolving gameplan, so you obviously need the same coach. (If it hadn't have been for Pert's review at the end of 2020 and the Board resisting Bartlett's efforts to remove the coach who knows where we would be now but it wouldn't be Premiers that's for sure.) I believe it takes 5 years for players to reach their full physical development so they have the stamina to be able to match or outrun their opponents and the strength to compete against the best. I think we've learnt over the past 18 months that the player driven culture has a lot to do with training standards. Obviously all of this has now come together. Some outstanding recruiting and list management supported with the right development and enough players who have been around long enough to be at the top end of work rate and game style. Goody from day one defined his gameplan philosophy as hard at the contest, attack from defence and holding the ball in the forward line. That's what we've ultimately seen. But it was interesting hearing one of the players saying last year that Chappie had been "banging on" about the defensive structure for years and they had finally got it. One of the things I've picked up the most over the past few years is how important setting up off the ball is. We were still pretty clueless about this in 2020 but there was a major transformation in this over the preseason leading in to 2021 and we are now one of the best at it in the comp which has got a lot to do with how well we are going. There's so much more to it but work rate is also a product of knowing where to be and where to get to a lot of which is off the ball. Go Dees

  49. Amazing. I had a look at the back page and it goes:- I felt rather light-headed early in the game at Casey Fields against Coburg so I sauntered off to the forward line where I managed to attract the football and some good fortune in the stiffening breeze. The umpire paid me two free kicks in a row. I kicked them through the goals both times and as I ran near the crowd the second time, I noticed one of the young fans who I knew by the name of Dorothy, clapping her hands excitedly until a moment later, the wind strengthened and a heavy shadow fell on our part of the ground. I realised we were in the eye of a tornado which lifted us up and dropped us on an unknown land. I must have passed out because when I came to, I was with Dorothy, a man dressed as a Lion who I figured was the mascot for the Coburg Lions, a ragged looking bum dressed like a Scarecrow and a strange character who called himself “Tin Man”. One of the local little league teams, “The Munchkins”, were also hanging around looking strange. One of them said, “We’re in the land of Oz”, and I replied, “Yeah, I know that but how do we get back to Casey Fields? The team needs me!” And that’s it … the rest is blank pages.
