  1. Because for the first time since 1950's we have 3 of the top half dozen players in the comp and probably 6 of top 20. We have never had champions in numbers like this.

  2. That really sucks, thanks AFL for thinking of all the Demon country members that have to travel 4 hours to see the unfurling of the flag and then work Thursday Money hungry grubs

  3. Carlton fans angry at losing the season opener. I like that 👍

  4. I was talking to a Dees fan whom I met at the supermarket a couple of days after the grannie. He works for the MFC as an accountant and this very subject came up. He believes that last year’s interstate bubble situation is a huge factor in this year’s success. He said while the players were close as it was, that time together truly cemented the bonds like nothing else. Edit: Didn’t wanna give the wrong impression. Talking to strange men at Coles is not usually my wont. He approached me when he spotted my beanie. And it’s a given that when two Dees supporters discover one another in our suburb much gushing ensues. We’re as rare as hen’s teeth around here. 😁

  6. The number of young players who played above and beyond their number of years and games and the clubs faith in them. Bbb to show glimpses of his old form heading into and during finals. Fritta to reveal he is the best forward we have had for a while.

  7. Just read an extract from Max’s diary to be released on 10 December. I’m not usually one for books published by sports people. They are usually rubbish but this is intelligent thoughtful and informative. Definitely will be getting a copy. It’s easy to underestimate Max - he is much more than a great footballer.

  8. An excellent run on the injury front (for a change).

  9. Jeezus first game of the season against the top two sides at the G, we asked for it we got it, we will be there to see the unfurling of our much sort after Premiership Flag after 57 years in the wilderness. We will be in the Spotlight and the Boys will be raring to go, can’t wait to sit in our seats again surrounded by happy familiar faces.!!!😀❤️💙

  10. Hibbo has given wonderful service to our club since he arrived. Done us proud as an All Australian in our colours and now an MFC Premiership hero forever.

  12. I'm a bit concerned that the boys have only had 2 games in 10 weeks. Expecting them to be a bit rusty.

  13. Because we hit hard. Ain’t bruise free anymore.

  14. Why, so they can have Collingwood on Friday night? What a joke, Docklands is free on Saturday have us on Friday and move Pies/Saints to Saturday. Now we have a midweek game that will make it difficult for families and others with rigid working hours to attend. Seriously, [censored] the AFL.

  15. Honestly our lack of injuries to key players had a huge factor in our success. I think it is our single biggest threat to success next season.

  16. You don't think we'll get 80,000 MFC fans to this game to watch us unveil the flag for the first time in 57 years? Sunday will be great for everyone who can make it, but I'd be going to this Rd 1. game if it was played underwater at Timbucktoo at 4:00am on a Monday morning.

  17. The club agreed to it and i don't understand why. If money was the driver (highly likely) then why not push for the Friday night game. We are well within our rights to make that demand. Not a good decision by the club at all

  18. Apart from the obvious- talented list, great coaching staff, terrific form leading into the finals, I've been thinking about the list of luck coincidences if you like, that helped us lift the cup: - a great comeback against Geelong that guaranteed top spot, the kudos of a minor premiership, as well as minimal travel - three unexpected Footscray losses that made the above much easier - the intervention of Pert and Roffey to keep Goodwin entrenched as coach - an extra break before the Grand final that allowed May to play - the respectful way the Jones situation was handled, which could have had the potential to derail things Please add to the list!

  19. No crowd at Geelong - doubt they’d pay Close’s punch out in front of full house. For once, hard work was rewarded and everything fell our way

  21. The respectful and understanding way we supported Kossie when his mother tragically passed away before the season. Though he wasn't a huge scoreboard contributor on GF day, he still had a huge presence in the game, the preceding finals and season as a whole. I think having guys like Matty Wheelan and Nev around would have been a big help in this regard as well.

  22. They just need to have a good afternoon nap. This is a big occation. Any MFC parent that doesn't let their kids go to this arn't a real supporter. My kids will be there with all their cousins. One day they will tell their kids they were there when the MFC unveiled it's first flag in 57 years. ...and any boss that sacks their worker for not turning up the next day is a bum!! 😜

  24. Not sure if it's a television event or a crowd grab. My feeling is that crowdwise it's way too much too soon and it will fall flat. TV wise it will rate well and TBH that is probably what it's all about As to our game what a stupid way to hobble a blockbuster

  26. I love it. Our Club proposed the fixture on behalf of us members, and the AFL agreed. We are starting to call some shots. We are starting to be heard!

  27. It’s been the subject of conjecture for well over a month and the club asked for it in the first place. I’m in favour of it - we deserve the additional blockbuster match because of what we’ve lost in the past couple of years. As for having to play against the Bulldogs who will be hungry for a win to offset the humiliation of the grand final, I say bring it on. We’re now the hunted, not the hunter and we have to learn how to deal with that!

  28. I was there today as well. While I had a phone to take photos I also took a camera.Because my phone is old and I was not sure if I could transfer photos to my PC.The lady took photos with the camera and the phone. She could not have been nicer. My wife has been able to download the photos from the camera but not the phone which is what l feared. But the camera one will do just fine , so I can send photos off to relatives overseas. Thanks MFC.So generous to us supporters.

  29. I’m just going through the paperwork rigmarole that I have to go through to re-enter the ACT after attending tomorrow’s ‘Premiership’. It’s a bloody nightmare, but you have to do what you have to do to celebrate after 57 years.

  32. Got about half a doz pages to catch up on and 👍 and 😄 but in the interim wanted to post about an odd feeling triggered by re-viewing (many times!) the boys on the podium. Very hard to explain but, at that point, the red and blue colours I've followed all my now-longish life, suddenly appeared surreally new to me, almost 'parallel-universe' to those familiar hues and familiar combination. In trying to understand this, some things that occur to me are that 1. the last time we were so successful, such images were in black and white, 2. the colours have never been 'showered' in the confetti era, and 3. seeing the team in the all-blue-and-red, traditionally-patterned, strip is actually quite rare these days. Anyone else identify with this (as far as they can understand me!)?

  33. Thanks for nothing Pert another year where we cannot attend all the games we pay for. Just had the conversation with Mrs Dw and we aren't going and she's livid. Hope Pert is going to donate some of his salary to the Club because his great idea will cost thousands. Needs to be dragged before the Board and have him explain why he has stuck two fingers up at families and country people.

  34. The Grand Final umpires, who largely refused to pay coodabeen-paid frees to the Dogs. Although, that was the Dogs' own fault for overacting earlier in the finals (and all year).

  44. Feels like we are sitting in Seat 1A but are still being served the economy meal. Just goes to show that the AFL wanted their cake and eat it too. Teams that finish 1st and 2nd on a Wednesday night but teams that finish 10th and 17th on Friday night?? Seriously!! There better be some sort of compensation from the AFL in regards to this decision in the fixture. Possibly another Friday night home game early in the season?

  45. Obviously Friday is easier on most people but I do really like the idea of kicking off the season. I’ve never understood why Carlton and Richmond get the season opener every year. Clearly that is an honour that should be given to the previous season premiers so that every year we start the season by unfurling the flag. One thing I do like is starting the season against another side who has had the same shortened preseason as we have. I know Burgo thinks that preseason is too long but very often premiership playing sides start off a little slower than others due to the later start they have to the preseason.

  46. Neither do I. It’s a hard sell for me. I hate it. It’s completely going to alienate fans who live far away or have small kids or work late. It’s a ludicrous choice. Friday or Saturday night would have been much better. Also from a selfish perspective we were going to head away that week and be back for the weekend. I planned my wedding date specifically to be the week before the footy season started each year. Now they go and put us on Wednesday I can’t even have an anniversary holiday. My husband is thrilled I’m ditching him for footy again.

  48. I’m not a fan of this, Wednesday night…. Season opener should be on the Thursday, but Richmond v Blues should be bumped back, or find Richmond another opponent but they won’t because of the crowd they’ll draw.

  49. I’m a hell’s bells supporter. If people are concerned about the segue to Its a Grand Old Flag then it could be handled by having a pause between the two.
