  1. His return from injury was delayed, as was his return to condition, but when he finally got some ongoing run in the legs, his value was incredibly important. What was most evident was that one of the coaches, probably Chocko, convinced him to buy into the team first ethos, and taking first options combined with his fierce attack on the ball, created an incredibly strong on ball presence with our other guns. Similarly to Brayshaw, I think Viney bit the bullet and decided to embrace the new team ethos rather than look to merely build statistics. Jack’s role and spirit were invaluable.

  2. 45 years I have waited for this moment. 45 years of love, heartache and often embarrassment. We bloody did it. I have no voice, the hangover from hell, can barely peel my lips apart and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Time to crack another can and watch the replay. GO YOU MIGHTY DEMONS and Thankyou from the bottom of my heart!!!

  3. Firstly, let me say how happy I am for all the loyal Melbourne supporters who had NEVER seen even ONE Melbourne Premiership. So very pleased for you all. I am one of the very lucky ones to have now notched up my 8th Premiership Title. This one had the most wonderful taste of all and that's saying something. When you are 83 and you see the Bulldogs seemingly ready to seize the GF by the the throat you think "I have seen 7 but I aint going to see anymore". How wrong was I ? This so young, talented gutsy team just will not accept defeat and seemingly don't panic when the goings get tough. No one beats us attitude. Until this season I always believed the great 1956 Melbourne team with its array of stars, Barassi, Cordner, Spencer, Ridley, McMahen, Williams, Dixon, Marquis etc etc was the the greatest of all BUT this years Demons are something extraordinary. I'm now leaning towards the present. What do other old Demons on this forum think? Over to you. Go the mighty Demons, you sure gave the Bulldogs Hell!

  4. Also now is the time to put big long contracts in front of Oliver and Jackson. When I say now I mean right now. They’re very drunk. It’s a good way to get them to agree to terms.

  6. A massive shout out to @Demonland Keeping this site going (held up magnificently tonight!) through all the trash years so we all had somewhere to vent and now through Covid so we all have somewhere to celebrate.

  8. I was at the ground. At half time I was alright, and thought we would be ok. The Johannison goal sucked the life out of the crowd around me and it really felt like the game was about to get away from us. The next few minutes were dire and even when Fritsch got his first of the third term you felt like we were just hanging on. From there we broke them. It was great to watch. Well done boys. Thanks Perth for being such awesome hosts.

  9. A huge shout out to Jayden H, Jonesy, Milkshake, the Weed, Neville J, Majak and all of the others on the list who maintained such strong pressure on all on the field to justify holding their possie - fair dinkum, this flag would not be flying if not for you.

  10. Didn't want to take away from the result at the time, but personally need to give a huge thank you to @Dante. The extra priority tickets allowed me to take my parents with me to the game. And I'm so glad my mum was there for when I started crying. Thank you so much, mate.

  11. I normally love basking in the schadenfreude of other supporters losing their minds at their team’s performance, but I think in this case I just want to enjoy the win and leave them in peace. Doesn’t feel right this time around.

  12. All I wanted is 1 flag. All I really wanted was a group of players who were proud to play for the club and resilient and didn't back down. Physically or mentally. And boy did we get that. The Dogs midfield got on top. They tangled our intercept defenders and had weapons at ground level that would trouble any side. Plus a skilled ball use game to move the ball around. But a teenage ruckman and a collection of hard nosed maniacs in the midfield said not today and all of a sudden the game completely changed. Our players were proud and were incredibly resilient and gave us everything we could ever wish for and more.

  13. I arrived in Australia in 1991. I fell in love with the local religion, football. I barracked for the Demons because of fellow Irishmen, Jim Stynes and Sean Wight. I went to games with Irish mates who also barrack for the Demons. The club is like family for a fella who is a long way from home. After everything that has happened in the last 30 years, this is a great day. We miss Jimmy and Sean. They would be so proud today. I am proud to be a Melbourne member. We have a great club that we can all be proud of. I can’t wait to do more screaming at the ‘G! See you there! I love yee all.

  15. The media focus has been on Jones but Gee Nev has been a true leader at the club. I sent Nev a message Saturday around lunchtime thanking him for getting us to this position and all the joy he's given us watching him play with so much courage and skill through those dark years. He sent me back a message at 2.30 in the morning saying "I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did" It was a wonderful gesture by Kysiah to try and give home his medal. So good to see the whole squad involved throughout the whole final series. The way past players, families and supporters have been acknowledged along the way What a wonderful inclusive club we have.

  18. I just want to say for the umpteenth time tonight that I am so proud of each and every one of you. If you wear these colours you are someone special in my book. I think of people like @binman who first started rocking up to the G in the 70s. I think of @george_on_the_outer rocking up to a bunch of probably rainy and wet crappy games but giving us the reports and the info we craved. I think of @Satyriconhome yes mate believe it or not I've got a lot of love for you! I'm thinking of @Wiseblood I'm thinking of the banana benders in the T@talkScullyshi$ thread(or whatever it's called) @rpfcand friends. I think of @Jadedwho I'm sure was a mod when I started here and were always on these boards no matter what and while I was always passionate about this club, needed to take breaks from the boards. I think of everyone, trust me if your name hasn't been mentioned believe me I am mentioning you. I think you are all great and I'm 3 sheets to the wind right now so if you can please cut us a break! @Wadda We SingI just saw a notification that that you posted something, I want to thank you too because being someone who generally had a low self esteem I always valued people like you who liked what I had to say haha. @old dee shout out to you my friend! @Premiers Please never ever change, I hope your name is the only thing you change come to think of it. I have so much respect for you on these boards and think you offer a hell of a lot. We love you, that's all I have to say right there. I think of people like @Dee Zephyr who I've had the privilege get to know a bit and now has a family clan of Dees fans who understand perfectly what this drought has meant to us all. This is it people, this is the club people want to jump to now! I haven't said zot about the game. Mate the 22 are champions. I'll be better with my match analysis when I'm not half cut. Stone sober during the game and let loose after. I think I'll call it a night and see you tomorrow. Wait, holy bloody Fritta! I teased my best mate Alex (1 Demonland podcast appearance back in 2018) so much when we drafted him, I kept saying as a joke "this guy is going to save the club" and this was when we still had Jesse. Bayley, my god you have been immense. I got Alex a birthday present Cameo video of Bayley wishing him a happy birthday. It's just, I can't even explain how good I feel about it. Cold blooded, I'm just so proud. I cannot express how proud I am. Here was this mature age sparky playing in the Casey seniors who many on here loved and feared if we didn't draft him we'd lose him. I loved the way he played, I always felt every Melbourne forward line needed a good leap so why not! My god sir! My giddy [censored]! I just, yeah. Christian Petracca. Alan Jeans said it best. In every game there is going to be a crossroads, and when you get to that crossroads you either step up or you step down. This is why the system is the way it is, it's so struggling teams get a good chance with a fledging champion. We all know they aren't all champions, that's why there's so many busts. This man did it, I always used to think every draft had a player like this. I now think that this a player you more likely find every 5 years in a draft. You were made to win this medal. I can't express how proud I am for a Melbourne player to win the Norm Smith medal. That name, I just can't comprehend it. It should have happened a very long time ago. There's people like @Cassiewwho would hire the video of the 1988 Grand Final just so they could see the team they support in a grand final as some kind of reference point (I hope I got that right!). And I'm not going to forget you guys. @McQueen @Pennant St Dee @Ethan Tremblayand I'm sure a wad of others just give me hate mail if I missed you. I personally couldn't be more rapt that if this Grand Final wasn't going to be in Melbourne that it was in Perth and I really mean it. A true football state, a magnificent stadium, I'm so thrilled that we did it over it Perth and there is much love sent your way fro helping represent our faithful! Take a bow guys! Honestly can I talk more about the game tomorrow? I'm totally spent! I love you all! I got 2 noise complaints for belting out the best rendition of Sunshine on Leith by the Proclaimers you're ever likely to hear. I think it's time to call it quits. See you tomorrow Demonland. @Gorgoroth I think you know what to do!

  20. I came to Melbourne in early 1965 from England. On the boat over I experienced my first game of Australian Rules football with a film about the 1964 premiership winning team Melbourne. After my arrival I was taken to a game between Richmond and Melbourne by my brother who was a Melbourne supporter at that time. I have supported the Demons from this day to this and never thought this day would ever occur. Hallelujah l can now die in peace.

  21. I don't give a fig about dynasties, power-clubs, curses, MFCSS, how great Bontempelli is, 186, Neeld, "the benefits of losing", game analysis, mark of the year, goal of the year, recruiting, the trade period, the cricket, Covid, vaccinations, the rise of China, the decline of the US, renewable energy, or any other subject matter. I am sitting in a quiet lounge room drinking scotch knowing this one simple thing. MFC are 2021 Premiers. And to all those Essendon supporters after the 2000 Grand Final - eat my shorts! You are carp and we are the best. WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!

  25. I’m watching the replay. The last minute of the 3rd quarter is as close to absolute pandemonium as you’ll ever see on a football field. It was literally ridiculous. I’m pretty sure i’ll never see anything like that again. I’m so glad I got to see us play like that in my lifetime. This is such a good feeling.

  26. There certainly is a lot of luv being spread on here tonight. I just went to bed to try and spread a bit more love, but apparently I smell like a brewery, and I have ignored her to the last 26 weeks. So here i am back amongst those who know how to appreciate and celebrate a win for the ages. .

  30. Haven’t posted until now because I have, uncharacteristically, been lost for words. Not only am I thrilled by and proud of the win but just love the way they have gone about it. There were no rough house tactics, no trying to milk frees just pressure, focus and never say die determination. They played without ego and their love and care for each other is palpable. Well done to all involved for a commanding performance.

  34. BUMP I know there is a thread on those no longer with us to enjoy this but this bloke deserves his own. It’s just so cruel he isn’t experiencing how we all feel today. At Marks funeral which was adorned with red n blue scarves , flags and our theme song, I took the mick out of Marks dress sense and in particular his go to outfit of faded 10 year old Dees polo and loud board shorts that clashed something shocking. The next day I visited his children and to my surprise they gave me a gift. It was Marks outfit. I was speechless. I made a promise to them that I will wear it every single game I watch from home which thanks to lockdown turned out to be most of them. ( I would not wear it in public for fear of ridicule) It felt like my suit of armour, he was our 19th man, and all season long I had this feeling of inevitability of what was about to happen. My first call post match was to his 15yo daughter who has continued Marks sponsorship of Steven May, she is such a passionate, tragic Demon like her Dad. I bawled my eyes out. It’s rare to be so damn happy and heartbroken at the same time. In my speech I promised Mark that when we win that flag I’ll come to where he is resting and we’ll celebrate. He’s in their lounge in an urn wearing his Dees cap. Can’t wait to go to their house, chuck the replay on and share it with them! This is for you markc ❤️💙

  35. Just a quick post match review comment. I'm hoping the dees came back from the dead narrative does not take hold, as I fear it might. I loved daisy's work, brilliant. And kudos to 7 for giving her much more air time. And even credit to bt for deferring to her often. But I think she got it wrong in the third declaring we were looking shakey and desperately needed a goal just for confidence. We had a poor second quarter. The simple reason why was that they smashed us in contested ball. It was not surprising they lifted their rating but it was really surprising we dropped off. And they were clearly on top. But despite them getting the first goal in the third (early) we were matching them in contested ball and had clearly got the game back into the shape we like it to look like. It was back to contest to contest. We had stopped their transition game. And stopped them flicking it around. And stopped allowing unpressured kicks by the like of daniels. We were back grinding. And 3 goals is nothing for a team that had proven its ability all season to score super quickly and multiplegoals in bursts.. We had done exactly that in our previous three games for Pete's sakes. Against quality opposition. Wasn't anyone watching? We were by far the most potent team over the last part of the season, having averaged 100.5 points in our previous 6 games (that average has jumped up to 106!). Of course I was nervous half way though the third. But I thought all of the above watching live. And my thoughts were reinforced when watching the replay. And good lord. When we lifted our rating, when we did flex, it was incredible. They simply could not go with us. No team could.

  36. Just woke up with a well earned sore head. Congrats to everyone on Demonland. I’ve been posting on here for around 15 years I think it is, and while the congratulations from friends is nice, I think of all the people on here who have sat through this period, watching each and every game. From celebrating the small wins along the way, to the many arguments when things looked lost. I’ll never forget last night, and hopefully we can do it again next year at the G with everyone there.

  39. I just remembered the last time the Doggies had anything to 'smile' about was when their dwarf Daniel flung Maxy around over the boundary (with no free paid, of course) and smirked. We didn't respond with anger (we could have), we just kicked the next 100 points. 🔥
