  1. This is rubbish, propaganda driven by Geelong people. The only time they "had us covered" was the 20 minute patch in the second quarter where they dominated stoppages and kicked 6 goals. If anyone had anyone covered the rest of the game, it was us covering them. And they didn't rest anyone. Dangerfield was (allegedly) sick and spent time on the bench in the fourth but that was it. Why do people have to minimise our win?

  2. Just dropping back in to let all Demon supporters know that in the WEST we have ALL supporters close to our hearts as we host the Dees here to hopefully win the flag. I'm a very active member of the Western Demon Supporter group for around 10yrs. I have been more passionate about the Dees since leaving VIC around 25yrs ago. There are some real die hard supporters here and we will do everything within our power to make our Demon voice heard from the West to the East. This is for all the supporters, now and from the past, for the thousands of Demon tales that can be told, for the those that paved the way for the greatest club that has ever existed - we are with you. Go Dees - Take what is yours.

  4. Just got back from next Saturday. We beat Geelong by 32 points. I attend the game but get booted out at 3/4 time after drinking 13 pints then spewing up on some Geelong supporters.

  8. I’m delighted we’re playing Geelong I suggest people look at their qualifying defeat against Port. The cats wilted under the heat and intensity applied by the power. Allir Allir had a party down back. They were never in it. They made heavy weather of beating an injury ravaged GWS last night They are old and slow and past it I have no worries whatsoever about out mental state or mindset. The psychological boost from our comeback in Rd 23 can’t be underestimated. We were super focused and business like against the Lions. These are the new demons. We will turn up to play next week Heat and intensity to overwhelm the geriatrics. Dees by 6 goals

  9. I thought the quality of football played last night was mediocre, and below the standard I would have expected in a ‘do or die’ final. We have played finals type football for most of the year, and I just can’t see the Cats dragging us down to their level. While the nervous tension will obviously build during the week, I will remain comfortable that we have the brand of football, the players, the ‘gears’ and the motivation to beat the Cats with something to spare.

  10. My favourite one was when Dangerfield threw it out of the back of the pack and James Brayshaw called it a party trick.

  13. I’m not sure how lucky it is when you consistently get the umpiring advantage. I just don’t get how this keeps happening. It’s an objective embarrassment.

  14. Goodwin very effusive in his praise of the leaders - and included the two with the podcast named after them. Also Viney is his favourite on field player. I think that is quite revealing, and should make many on here stop and think about some of the nonsense they send Jacks way.

  16. It’s true layzie, but the game needs to be protected, dare I say saved from its single most obvious blight. When the game’s adjudication is so often horrendously flawed, it becomes very hard to watch, because it destroys the idea that two teams are playing each other on equal terms. It’s frankly amateurish, and simply has to be better.

  17. We can’t go on like this. Clubs need to get together and call this out. It’s blatant cheating and it’s ruining the game.

  18. End of day if we can't beat them we don't deserve to be in the Grand Final. Having said that I believe we are playing at the perfect venue to revenge the 2018 PF.

  19. Wow talk about MFCSS to the max. We’ve all wanted to see our boys go deep in September, and when the moment arrives some just completely drop their bundle. These are the moments to enjoy, not be anxious about. I’m pumped and will be for the next 7 days. We are up our eyeballs in it this year. Comrades............Dees.............BELIEVE

  21. I've noticed a lot of posters quoting their feelings of MFCSS in the lead up to our Preliminary Final against Geelong. It's time we reclaimed this negative acronym, make it our own and wear it with pride. My proposal is that, henceforth, we assign the following meaning to the term: Melbourne Football Club September Specialists

  22. I watched about half the Geelong v GWS semi last night and could not believe the number of blatant throws that were not called In fact this season overall the blatant throws seem to have become common in almost every game I've watched The AFL seem hell bent on making the game as fast as humanly possible and minimize stoppages - I do wonder if the umpires are actually turning a blind eye to some of these throws because last night there were a series of absolute howlers that were so obvious - play on nothing to see here !

  24. 9+ free kicks for Bulldogs in hostile territory. They had all the tiggy touchwood ones go their way and some blatant ones missed against them. They're a danger this year simply because they get such a wonderful run from the umpires. I thought they'd be in trouble tonight given it was an away game, but they still smash it in frees. Astounding.

  26. First game. Geelong goals by each qtr. 1: 1 2: 2 3: 5 4: 1 One lucky quarter saw them catch a break, and kick 5 goals. They struggled to kick goals in 3/4 qtrs. That's our defence. Second game. Geelong goals by each qtr. 1: 2 2: 8 3: 2 4: 0 In 3 out of 4 qtrs, they only managed two lots of two and then a zero. They had one good qtr where they played out of their skin and kicked 8. That's our defence. In 8 quarters of football, only twice have they kicked 3 or more in a quarter against us. And one good quarter a game isn't (and shouldn't) be enough to win you anything, let alone a PF against us. We just need our defence to do as it does. And the rest will do as it's done. I'm as nervous as anyone. But looking back on this, it's calmed me a little bit. Hopefully it can calm you too. :)

  29. I have a sneaking feeling Hunt just may come back in this week. He was playing well before injured and was nearly ready last week. He gives us great run and carry and he hadn't done much wrong prior to injury. In fact he's had his best season. One of Smith and Bowey to go if this happens. My gut feeling would be Bowey if this was to happen, as Smith is more versatile with a hardened, if not injury prone, body. I think Bowey is fantastic and will be a core player in years to come and he too hasn't done much wrong. I am a big fan. However a Preliminary Final is where the stakes are raised even higher and I wonder if a first year body against a very match hardened outfit is the way to go. I think a fit Jayden Hunt has earned the right to be there and his run and dare could cut swathes through a slowing Geelong outfit. He and Langdon running in tandem through the middle has been one of the more thrilling sights on occasions this year. If Bowey is picked, he has earned the right to be there on form, but in my opinion, I just think Hunt is the way to go given the opposition and the level of the stakes.

  30. Goody's son Eddie sounds like a crack-up. They should get him on sometime Great interview and great questions as well. It all comes across as honest and authentic. I admit I wasn't a fan of the podcast early days, i just wanted the boys to focus on the footy but i can see its value now. I think Maxy and Gus do a great job representing the club and are a great reflection of the culture that has been built over the last few years.

  31. Stakes are very high but we wanted it that way. I'm grateful we have the opportunity to put the final stamp on those smug campaigners' era. Max, Clarrie, Jack and Steven are between them and the GF, Geelong aren't going there.

  32. I’m surprised at all the concern shown in this thread on facing Geelong. I thought they were really ordinary last night against a banged up team missing their best player and at least 6 other best 22. - We are very fit and will be fresh as can be, they look real tired. - Played on a ground not dissimilar dimensions to The G, nothing like Kardinia Park. - We will have a great crowd presence on our side. ( Pav thinks it will be very pro Dees) - Their form has plateud for over a month now, I still see improvement in us. - Belief. I’ve always been a realist when discussing the Dees, usually more on the pessimist side, but we are a different beast to any Dees side in my lifetime. Its our time.

  33. In 1964 my best mate and I bought our first MFC memberships. I was 13 years of age. I've misplaced it now but it was stiff board about 10cm by 7cm. Folded out it had the fixture and at each game we would have it clipped as we went into the ground, home or away. My mate's mother gave us the tram timetable each time we played away so we'd get off the train at Flinders Street to find the tram route so we could attend attend most away games not only all of those at the 'G'. Only games we didn't get our cards clipped were for Arden Street and the Western Oval. I was in NSW when we smashed the filth in the second semi and remember my uncle teasing me about AFL players being ballet dancers. (It was some years before I learnt to call NRL players bumsniffers.) My dad somehow wrangled me a ladies ticket from a member he knew and so I sat in the Grey Smith Stand between two nice Melbourne ladies who had a thermos and sandwiches as well as the mandatory tartan blanket. All very middle class and civilised. Until Gabbo did this famous wobbly run down the southern end at which point they completely did their bottle. He seemed to be about half a mile away from where were sitting but it was an unforgettable moment. It was high drama when Hassa Mann marked and kicked for goal towards where we were sitting (just keeping our seats by this stage) and then he missed. Melodrama! Angst! Gloom! Finally though, unbelievably, we got back in front after Froggie kicked the sealer. Now everybody was on their feet, hugging each other and shouting for joy. Froggie! He shouldn't have even been there. And in reply to a few posters on this thread - it certainly was Mick Bone, the resting rover whom Froggie followed down into our forward line that afternoon. Probably never been across the centre line in his whole career before that match, Neil Crompton - back pocket players never left their post in 1964.

  39. Absolutely. The opportunities don't get any better than this year. WE finished top of the ladder. WE are the best side in the competition. We have a full list available to play. This is it.

  40. I could cop a loss if it was against the Giants. I simply cannot cop this against Geelong. Out of all teams, I can't just fathom the though of losing to Geelong and letting it eat inside of me for 6 months.

  41. Let it be known I HATE geelong. I hate their self entitled attitude, snipper duck wood, flimsy arms Hawkins and the world owes me Dangerfield and Cameron. And don’t get me started on their inflated ego driven nut job of a coach. GOD I HOPE WE BEAT THESE SELF ENTITLED [censored].

  42. Probably because of their age bracket. Except Geelong those pensioners have no excuse.

  43. With respect to the last home& away game. We only have to deal with not dropping our guard for 20mins. Geelong have to work out how to counter how we controlled them for 100mins. Keep your energy up, see us walking away easy winners, don’t drop into the past. Believe! Go Dees

  44. You do realise Ratugolea was dropped to play us in Rnd23. All our defenders will need to do next week is not get out marked (which they’re pretty damn good at). There’s no Charlie Camerons, or Zac Butters, or Fantasias, or Weightmans running around. We have a faster spreading and superior midfield… and they’re also still missing their best defender who glues it all together. If we can’t win next Friday, then we’re clearly not ready yet. Like the rest of you, my MFCSS is absolutely raging but I’m trying to think logically and take in some of the commentary I’ve seen from neutral supporters.

  45. Jeelong looked terrible tonight in their grandfinal. It was very fortunate they were only playing an injury riddled (yet still [censored]) version of GWS. The umpires had their Toby Greene revenge game too which assisted the Cats. Dangerfield & Selwood only combined for 34 touches - they're cooked. Dees by 40 odd if we're inaccurate, which the chance of a 10+ goal win if we've got the kicking boots on.

  48. I love these podcasts for the honesty and obvious regard for the team that's exhibited each week but this weeks special guest gave a much better insight into the relationships at the Club. Although Goody lapsed occasionally into his media speak, it was so refreshing to hear him speak in the way he talks/ communicates to the group on a day to day basis.
