  1. Credit where it is due. That's an amazing job by the AFL to get those games away

  2. That's a re-rostering job my wife would be impressed by. Well, at least give an approving nod to. Especially since it means she'll be able to see the game now! She's managing the roster at an inner-west (NOT directly in the 'problem LGAs', thankfully) Sydney aged care centre with about 30% of total staff headcount unavailable due to the one-site-only restrictions, the zone restrictions, and the any-kind-of-contact restrictions. All of which are welcome as far as they are keeping the residents safe, but make roster management incredibly hard. If her shift officially finishes at 5, I doubt she's actually left before 7 in the last two weeks. I'm sorry. I'm just so freaking proud of her. Plus, she's become a legitimately intense Demon in the last 12 months or so, so I'm glad she gets to see today's game tomorrow.

  3. Just heard on ABC radio that past player John Lord has passed away. Another of our 1964 premiership team now gone. R.I.P. big fella.

  4. A letter from the CEO Dear Demonland, I am writing to keep you all up to date with the latest changes to the AFL fixture following the lockdown announced in South-East Queensland today. Our Round 20 clash against the Gold Coast, originally due to be played this afternoon at Metricon Stadium, has been rescheduled. As soon we have further details on when and where the match will be played, we will let you all know. When the lockdown was announced, our players and coaches were already in transit to Queensland. Upon landing in Brisbane, they were informed of the change in circumstances and have now headed back to Melbourne. Once we know the channel that the game will be broadcast on, we will let you know, as I am sure you will all want to tune in to throw your support behind the team. Despite the whirlwind of events, we are incredibly pleased to still be able to get our Round 20 match away this weekend, considering all that’s going on around the country. At this stage, we are still planning to face the West Coast Eagles in Round 21 at Optus Stadium. However, we anticipate the day and time of this clash is likely to change, to allow us to travel to Perth and undertake Western Australia’s mandatory seven-day quarantine period before being able to play a match. As we have seen today though, things can change at any moment. Rest assured, we will continue to keep you all up to date with any changes that may arise as quickly as we possibly can. Please keep your eyes peeled to the Melbourne website and social channels for further updates as they come to hand. We are also hopeful that things in Victoria can continue to track in a positive direction and that we can see you all back in the stands very soon. Our players and coaches entered the 2021 season knowing that every club will need to be flexible, agile, and prepared for anything. This weekend has once again proved this to be the case, but I am pleased to say that they have taken today’s events in their stride and are excited to face the Suns. 5. Met John a couple of years ago when I started writing my book and he was fantastic help, despite recovering from a recent health scare. Very sorry to hear this.

  7. The AFL are [censored] id iots. This game should have been moved to Marvel for this afternoon during the week instead of Metricon. Gold Coast play Carlton next week in Melbourne so it made sense that GC stay in Melbourne for this week and play in Melbourne again Bunch of amateurs.

  8. Oh dear. Johnny Lord was a great player for us, and a gentleman of the highest order. His passing puts a lot of things into perspective. RIP Johnny.

  9. Now that we’re flying home, any chance West Coast stick around for another week to play us in VIC? Footy in WA is in the too hard basket IMO.

  11. I'll put my hand up and admit it's all my fault. I was waiting for my daughters covid test results from yesterday to return before buying our tickets. We missed the boat on staying at Royal Pines Resort like usual but had a bunch of family ready to head down the highway. Then, the son texted about the lockdown and bam, lockdown called, negative test result finally came back and the game was cancelled. Had my lucky shirt and shorts all washed and ready to go. Oh well no live games for us this year (except for the AFLW earlier). So I take full responsibility for the disruptions by getting my hopes up and planning on going. On a side note, looking forward to watching the game on TV tomorrow lunchtime with a few Melbourne Bitters for luck and hope Marvel treats us well. Good luck to everyone....

  14. Yes monocular I do believe our health professionals, that is why I am fully vaccinated and according to the experts if I catch COVID I will more than likely survive without serious side effects. I pay no attention to social media, or the Press for that matter. They are not singing from the same song list, full vaccination means lower death risk and I am all for that.

  16. He spoke at Frank Adams funeral a couple of years ago, although I never spoke to him in person he seemed a nice guy. They had the 64 cup at the funeral at the end of his speech he said that cup is the second best premiership cup pause then The Best one is the next one.

  17. The AFL should bring all clubs to Victoria and set up hubs like Qld last year. How can they possibly risk another occurrence of what happened today? We know the WA government can shut things down at the drop of a hat, and now Queensland too. Play the rest of the games and all finals in Victoria. We have the grounds, MCG, Marvel, GMHBA, even Ballarat. We have our COVID situation seemingly under control. Make it easy for yourselves AFL, and stop trying to appease vested interests. The game today should have been at Marvel all along, it was a no brainer.

  20. Geez, I'm stoked. Just landed at Coolangatta Airport and some nice bloke sold me his 5 tickets to today's game for my entire family and even gave me a 10% discount.

  21. Boys get to sleep in their own beds and even though it is a 12:10 start, can follow their normal game time preparation when playing in Melbourne. Suns had to pack in a crazy hurry, jump on a flight, stay in a hotel and be worried about the qld lockdown being extended.

  24. Boys, we have two options. Option one, disembark and risk getting covid. Option two, stay on the plane and risk dying in a fiery avaiation fuel explosion. Show of hands? Option one it is. Oh, don't bother waking tmac up.

  25. This is why WA doesn’t deserve a grand final. They’ve made it so hard on the AFL and it’s clubs during this pandemic .

  26. Did you know there was going to be a snap lockdown in South Queenland today? I'm no great fan of the AFL but they've done a great job keeping the show on the road this season so far

  27. Succession planning seems to work best when the coach dictates it themselves like Paul Roos did. It doesn't work so well when egotistical Presidents move on premiership coaches. Well done Eddie and Jeff.

  31. So if we play tomorrow it will need to be really early so we can get a flight to Perth to serve our 7 day quarantine in time for a Sunday night game the following week? We should just stay in Melbourne as the Eagles are already here and play at their choice or venue in vic ;)

  42. No they're supposedly flying into Melbourne today. This is an absolute mess really. GMHB stadium, Marvel, and MCG are all free tomorrow. We could have easily played in one of those venue's and then immediately fly out to Peth. We then push next weeks game to a Sunday due to the 7 day lockdown. The ramifications now of missing a game is potentially huge.

  43. ...and this is the reason they can't move the GF to Perth or anywhere else this year. State Premiers will make the right decisions fro their people as should be, not the AFL. The WA Premier has also shown he will shut things down quickly. Keep it close now, hub in Melbourne for the series and finish it off here crowds or no crowds.

  45. Oh to be able to kick 18.4 like the Blues did last night! That’d be awesome. Provided the Suns kick 18.3 or less, that is. Them kicking 3.18 would be even better!

  46. The VFL concept is surely broken. Most of the guys above have played three games since May 23rd. How can they stay match fit over that period, let alone find some form. And now they will be travelling for three weeks with no games. For the apparent elite sporting competition in Australia this is embarrassing. And before anyone jumps in with the COVID card, I get it, but it’s not as though COVID is an unexpected issue for this season.
