  1. 1st world problems but I'm finding the lack of team announcements on Thursday very irritating. Was hoping that would be reinstated for this season.

  2. I see Chunk Jones is expecting twins. A good incentive to play well - he’ll need a 5 year contract to pay for that lot.

  6. No complaints from me EO. In the words of the great Jack Dyer, he’s the type of player who only needs 2 or 3 kicks to finish with 5 or 6 goals.

  7. What I've noticed is that we seem to be changing it up constantly. I love that because it seems like a really offensive mindset. Keep them guessing and give them something different to deal with at every centre bounce. Predictability has been a weakness for us in there and having Clarry and Viney at every centre bounce only gives you so many ways to clear the ball and this is why I think we eventually get picked off. Every mid seems to be getting a look at a centre bounce and this is why I can't see us dropping LJ. He's not just giving Max a chop out, he's genuinely holding his own in there and has actually helped facilitate a lift in clearance numbers a couple of times. In summary, keep throwing different looks at them.

  8. Josh Bruce puts himself at top of the order as the worst 10 goal a game player ever.

  11. It depends how you define it. If you define the ruck position as the person who takes ball ups, bounces and throw in then maybe. But as bucks said that's actually a small part of the role. Athletic talls ie ruck man can play a critical role structurally. Just as Max does. For example maxy running hard defensively and blocking the corridor inside 50 severely disrupts the quality and effectiveness of the opposition's entries. When they're not kicking it to him, they're trying to avoid him, which forces them to kick to the pockets. The saints game was the perfect example of this. 13 less scoring shots from 2 less inside 50s was in part down to the Max factor. Similarly he disrupts opposition kick outs and defensive clearing kicks. And then there is his impact pushing forward. Someone has to man him up, and there is often a mismatch. He creates goals. I can think of four of tbe tip of my head in tbe first two games. And whilst opposition teams can set up to rove to Max he can still create 2 or 3 goals from stoppages agamr, like the viney goal. In games of small margins that is critical. Bucks point was tap outs is a nothing stat. But not stoppage work, clearnces, goals from them, marks around the ground etc etc. I reckon the dees are now really maximising Max. And I also reckon he is in our top 3 most important players. So def nor trash.

  12. I just watched Pickett's goal in slow-mo a couple of times, and it's even more impressive than I thought - super quick little steps initially to throw off the Saint in his face and the one on his tail. Hope I'm watching him kick goals for the Dees for the next 10+ years.

  13. A decent game this between the Crows and the Suns. Both teams have improved a lot. Adelaide will be tough to beat when we play them over there.

  14. If the AFL hand us (Tasmania) this steaming turd it’s just proof of their contempt for the push for a team. “You wanted a team, here it is. Enjoy.” ?

  16. I think his game was even more impressive considering the rough start he's had this year. To lose his mum at age 19 would be incredibly tough. He went home and still kept doing the work while away from the club. He seemed to run out the game really well. I am sure his family are super proud of him. I'm with you Rogue, really excited to be able to watch him every week.

  17. The club and its members have only been relying on this 'new' technology for the past season and a bit due to the extraordinary circumstances we all find ourselves in with the pandemic. I'm not sure who these members are that have no access to mobile or home PC type technology, or how many of them actually exist, but hopefully they would, for the most part, have technologically capable connections (family, carers or other) who could help them obtain seating at games and help them maintain their memberships. We interstate members still keep our memberships going, despite often going years on the trot with the Dees not having games in our cities (I'm in Sydney), so attendance should not be the determining factor; it's all about love for the club.

  20. The conversations around Gus are interesting, on the one hand he’s one of my favourite players and it actually frustrates me seeing him played in a position I know isn’t natural to him. But here’s the thing, if we need him playing that role and for the team it’s creating the right balance to allow us to win matches then so be it. If it means every week he’s getting around 18-22 touch’s and playing in a supporting role then so be it. Whatever gets us into the best position to be in contention.

  22. Brisbane’s season was on the line, 4 goals down and playing poorly. I thought they were gone. Huge win for them The positive for mine from watching these opening rounds and looking at the Lions, Pies, Geelong, Carlton etc. is that they are all beatable. The Dees have nothing to fear from any of them. We maintain our form and add in BB, maybe Weid and start kicking straight then no reason why a Top 4 spot isn’t right there for the taking.

  23. Very special game for me. A very ordinary game saved by first gamer Tingays winning goal. Like many, I became a Melbourne supporter as a direct result of being taken to games by my Dad. By the time this game came around my Dad was failing in health. I remember the difficulty of getting him from the car in Yarra Park to the ground. Stopping every few metres to catch his breath. But we won the game. I knew at that time that Dad was probably not going to get to another one. It was emotional and it was to be my Dads last game. I carry his spirit with me to every game.

  24. I didn’t think I would need to educate you but here it goes. Defensive wingers are about structure and being a step away from the ball and the contest. It’s to stop the oppo doing something quickly or not at all. Kamden McIntosh one of the best in the business had a 13 possession 1 tackle and 8 pressure act game last week. Richmond will probably give him high B&F votes like his top 5 finish last year. Gus is a work in progress in the role but he is doing it a hell of a lot better than people get. This is why we are not even looking to rotate him on ball at all and preferring Sparrow and Jones and others. Carry On.

  33. After having problems with TICKETEC for rd1 and todays article by Nth Melb official on members embrassing technogly for games admissions. How do we as a club enable long time members get into games if they dont own a smart phone or computer. As a club we owe it to members who have paid for decades, supporting the club through thick and mainly thin to watch their DEES. Please dont label these fellow members, Luddites or tell them to pay many hundreds of dollars for a smart phone. They cant phone the club as the club is just overloaded with calls and you cant get through. If they cant get to the games they will just cease being members and we need everybody on board. HOW DO WE HELP THESE MELBOURNE SUPPORTERS.

  41. It amazes me how little people get that Gus is playing the skinny side defensive wing and is actually playing it well and still learning, The right way to continue to reinforce that we are rewarding team footy and role footy wins is to maintain an unchanged side. If there is no VFL practice this week just take Milkshake and he could get time as medisub if needed. Which if you consider he offers good flexibility forward, back and mid if required.

Yes absolutely, don’t turn this into one of your long running 20 post sagas and don’t let facts get in the way of a whisper, which evolved into your statement Was Clarrie unhappy- yes maybe Was he out of contract - No Did any club offer us anything to take Clarrie -,No Do managers put rumours out 12/18 months in advance of contract negotiations- yes all the time Did any club have the required funds to pay for him - North and Hawthorn did but at trade time nobody else did Did any club have the required compensation to get Clarrie from us-No Would we have let him go for unders - No So yes I’m absolutely saying He was never “close” to leaving last summer.

  45. Turned it on with about 7 minutes to go. What a ripper. Was barracking for Brisbane as if I somehow cared about this game in the end. I don't know a real lot about Zac Bailey but I was never in doubt he'd kick it, just based on how he looked. There were none of the big deep breaths or the other usual signs you'd see when someone is crapping themselves about the shot. He was all over it. It was beautiful.

  46. Even taking into account TMac's good start to this year I'd trade him way ahead of Weideman or Jackson if we need Cap space for Oliver and Petracca. We've got the makings of a sustained long term assault on the flag and they are hard to win. Keep showing up for the next 5-7 years and we'll have a good chance of breaking through.
