It could be what they asked for and being GF'ists requests get granted. And in a way it doesn't matter when they play there they will win. Just like Richmond had a long run of games at the G in the latter rounds in recent years. Being GF or premiers helps persuade the AFL on numerous fixture benefits. On the positve side for us, seven of our first 9 games are in Melbourne (6 at the G, of which 5 are Home games, and 1 is at Marvel). I'm guessing lots of early Melbourne games is what the club asked for to get fans attending games (gate revenue) and to sell memberships in the early rounds. That early revenue will be important to us.6 points

I find it interesting that many are comfortable stating that Ben Browns form last year was an aberration, but cannot do the same for Tmac.4 points

LATEST LIST HERE: 19 November 2021 Update for the Petty and Fritsch contract extensions. The Petty extension is until 2025 when he will be an RFA. At the end of Fritsch's contract in 2026 he will be an FA. No change to our list or draft position since the last update. This has been an amazingly small list turnover, almost all 'forced' changes: Jones and Jetta retired, Vandenberg going on to a new career, Nietschke had a long term injury, Bradtke (I think) had no more years left as a rookie. So only true delisting were one from the senior list (Hore) and two from the rookie list (Lockhart and Declase). A very stable list, one which just won a Premiership!3 points

Three consecutive home games for Geelong at GMHBA Stadium rounds 21, 22 and 23 before the finals against the Dees , Saints and Giants. What a set up. Well done AFL you are so Sly......... You are lower than a pregnant Snake !3 points

For those who saw the 1950's Melbourne teams, know that Stuart Spencer came from Tasmania as a Back Pocket player but Norm Smith decided he was too good to waste in the Back Pocket and played him as a rover and the rest is history. Neil Compton came as a rover and could not get a game and was played as a Back Pocket player in a premiership. It is not where players start their careers but where they are best used for the team, Western Bulldogs play Caleb Daniel as a half back yet he is not the height of a typical half back but does the job well and is a star.3 points

They didn't take out a loan they secured a line of credit. Not sure how much of that has been used but there is a difference (ie home/personal loan vs credit card). You only have to repay what you use.3 points

Depends how financially secure the AFL is. They took out a big loan early in the covid crisis for $500m which was secured against Marvel Stadium. That needs to be repaid and i'd love to know the rate of interest they were charged. HQ was gutted and all the "make work" roles were done away with (which was most of them). Player payments reduced as well. Gill was looking very nervous there for a while but i think the bubble meant a financial crisis was avoided for now. I wouldn't like to be relying on the AFL. Much prefer we retain our financial independence and can make our own decisions.3 points

I dearly love this man, and wanted him as captain for a period, but seriously the wing would be a disaster, his kicking is not up to it. As a forward there was no complication for him, thump it between the big sticks. Personally (again from the man crush) I choose to believe ankle/foot mobility issues were behind his putrid form last year. I also think his bulking up to look like thor didn't work out particularly well, pretty much the same as when James Hard came back from injury looking like a NFL wide receiver. Now that these follies and injuries are attended to, I am hoping for an Indian summer for one of the most dignified guys to pull on our jumper. Just not on the wing.3 points

This is just not a very smart post. If Goody gets the sack next year it means we will have failed. That puts us back in rebuild territory as you can guarantee players like Oliver, Petracca and Jackson will be looking to move on. The happy outcome would be for Goody to prove most wrong and turn out to be a master premiership winning coach. That is unless it's more important for you to be proved right than us getting success.3 points

A fit and more mobile T Mac this season is still a very handy addition to our team, at worst as depth. Mobile blokes, with good tanks, good height and experience don't grow on trees. We were looking at Shaun McKernan (supposedly) and I'd definitely prefer TMac to that spud.3 points

We got Friday night games in 2019 on the back of finals. One of them against Sydney in 2019 was considered one of the worst games of the season. In the original 2020 fixture before COVID hit we received 3 Friday night games, even on the back of a terrible season. We were also awarded a prime time Thursday night game against Port this year on the back of a couple of promising weeks in the NSW hub, and proceeded to stuff it up badly...and I mean really badly and spoilt the viewing of everyone bar a Port supporter. The AFL likely hasn't forgotten about that debacle when fixturing the first 6 weeks. The bottom line is we can't be trusted on the big stage - by our supporters, the general TV viewer and the networks. Sorry if that sounds harsh.2 points

Dr D I have one issue with your list. To compare Jack Watts with all those others who only played abut 20-50 games each is not realistic. Jack May not have reached his potential as a No 1 pick ( just as much our fault through nit developing players and him especially) So to compare and list with others like Toumpas etc is unfair and derogatory towards Jacks efforts for the Club come yo think of it our record for development Is Poorish and these guys suffered also.2 points

2013. They have the longest finals drought outside of Gold Coast. On their website they've said they had an average free-to-air audience in 2020 of nearly 600,000. No idea what that figure is for us but will be the reason they get two Thursday nights to open the year. There is no fairness, though, in them only having 5 interstate trips and the remaining 17 games all in Melbourne.2 points

That one line explains everything that has been claimed. The Bentleigh club had not been revalued for years ( and should have been). We have been drawing down on the sale proceeds from the Leighoak club for 2 years now. While this past year has been difficult, in terms of operational cash flow, all that has been happening is we are selling assets. Importantly, although the sale of Leighoak was fortuitous in terms of COVID since Poker machine venues couldn't operate, we have not replaced the $1M per year of profit that it provided. Revaluation of Bentleigh, doesn't put any more food on the table. The sooner it is sold so that either the money can be invested to provide decent long term income or directed toward a training base, the better.2 points

It's often who you play in those home games. Having Freo then say Suns GWS then Crows Would not be a membership selling draw BUT mst assist in getting crowds vs Big Vic Clubs therafter. But having Gerlong Tigers and Blues early on can boost membership figures as long as we are not being thrashed and showing form and wins, as more fans go to those games!2 points

I twice wrote up detailed replies to Dieter’s post but both times mi**** a link and lost them. Bloody heartbroken. In short, Toby Ord’s The Precipice is all about existential risks, including Climate Change. If the book is a bit daunting, check out his appearance on Sam Harris’s podcast. Elizabeth Colbert’s The Sixth Extinction is about the present state of things. As D has read in the fires and floods, the news ain’t good.2 points

How can i be making this stuff up? Didn't they play under Mark Williams? So they didn't make their names under his tutelage? The Burgoyne Brother were premiership players under Chocco and according to you had nothing to do with their development. Daniel Pearce was actually a promoted from the Rookie list so he must have had an influence on his career you would think CF. Your kidding yourself CF. Have a think about what you say before you go posting champion.2 points

He's got a month to get fully fit so I think he can do it but he'll start off on the bench. If not we have a handy replacement in Harmes and Vanders becomes emergency.2 points

According to the Bartlett-Pert "red n' blueprint" this should be "manna from heaven". It will literally rain goals on both sides of the continent. Hopefully the team won't be seeking refuge in the Ark but navigating a finals strategy that will finally deliver the Grail.2 points

TMac on the wing! I've heard it all now. I'd play Rosman before i'd play him. He's forward depth. Very expensive forward depth.2 points

Looks like the proceeds on sale were $10.65m – see cashflow statement 2018 comparative - Proceeds from sale of discontinued operations. The money was banked. In 2019 some of the funds were re-invested – see $7.6m financial investment on 2019 statement of financial position ($1m + $6.6m) We incurred a loss in the 2019 year of approx. $2m which accounts the majority of the remainder of the Leighoaks proceeds (used to cover the losses). Alternatively you could look at the 2019 cashflow statement which details components of the decrease in the bank account of $10.2m.2 points

Why is it? T Mac had only one great year up forward, Brown has been consistently elite, bar 2020. Maybe Brown never gets back to his bet, but it is a far safer bet on him doing so than it is for T Mac.2 points

If he has re-discovered some mobility it could work well, he's had the aerobic fitness in the past. When we're in attack, if Max is down the line on the Langdon wing, TMac's size and marking ability on the other wing prevents an outlet there and deters the switch. When we're coming out of defence, similarly - Max down the line on the Langdon wing or TMac down the other line provide separate avenues to marking targets or aerial contest killers. This was the hope I had for Tomlinson last year but it didn't work out.2 points

Looks like a great 'package'. Watching him develop in Melbourne colors will be a treat.2 points

With all due respect dazzle I think you're being a bit disingenuous here. Firstly you know that we got two consecutive picks. Secondly Taylor said he will start in the back line, which is a common path for young players in their development. I suspect he'll be a winger/high half foward long term but if he makes a half back or even back pocket spot his own I won't be complaining. Many clubs have picked up non-key defenders in the first round of recent years.2 points

Q: Who finished second behind Dusty in the 2017, 2019 and 2020 Norm Smith medals? A: Houli, Houli, Short. If he can handle afl pressure and get a dozen kicks across half back then he’ll prove his worth.2 points
