  3. Was credited with vastly improving the Hawks' kicking skills while in charge of that area. Worked his way up to being match day/strategy. Kicking skills and strategy. Pretty perfect for us.

  5. I was told couple of weeks ago that the Club is in advanced discussions with Yze and are being listened to by Leppitsch. My source said that Yze is very likely and if Leppitsch decides to continue in Footy, it will be with the Dees.

  7. Heard the same, although I was told Leppitsch is a very good chance. Your intel seems even more feasible though given Leppitsch said he was walking away from footy. Yze will come on board as senior assistant, contract details being finalized, done in the next week or two. You couldn't pick better strengths from a coaching point of view for our needs. There's a feeling that Richardson may take over Mahoney's role, but a few things have to fall into place for that. I think it relies a bit on the review and then potentially also what Leppitsch decides, although that's all speculative at this point given the nature of this time of year.

  8. Sometimes you need to remember that players are people with families. Oscar has copped some serious abuse from supporters and honestly if he wants out, so be it. He is far from the worst player to ever make a career for themselves in the AFL.

  9. Getting Leppa would be a massive coup. The key architect to Richmond's last two premierships.

  12. Basically, what @Lord Nev said. From kicking/goalkicking specialist, to versatile line coach, to match day strategy. Is a legitimately desirable target. https://www.hawthornfc.com.au/news/710789/yze-promoted-to-assistant-coach "Yze played a key role in harnessing the Hawthorn players' elite kicking skills as they developed into the AFL's deadliest team in front of goal over the past two seasons. Since 2010, the team's accuracy has soared from 48 per cent to 57.1 per cent." https://www.hawthornfc.com.au/news/227910/adem-yze "Yze was promoted to Assistant Coach at the end of 2014 after establishing himself as a respected teacher at Hawthorn. ... After four years as a line coach, Yze shifts into the role of 'Head of Match Day Strategy & Opposition' in 2019."

  13. Sometimes I think with all these line coaches trying to justify their existence confuse players and they reduce what made them good in the first place.

  14. We toweled up an injury riddled out of form version of them. They just beat the Eagles in Perth in finals. Credit to them. We didn’t even get close to doing that in our best year in 15 years! Pies made no excuses and got the job done. We need to grow up and start doing the same. No more excuses!

  16. I am confident this deal will happen. Heard from a usually reliable source that Adem was super keen to join at the end of 2019 and we were chasing him hard. Hawthorn played hardball and refused to let him break the contract that was in place and there was an understanding that he’d join Melbourne at the end of 2020. It sounds like this is very close to happening now.

  18. So the Ooze is “one of the big names” i was told about the other day. Let’s see. He could certainly teach a few how to kick a football...

  20. Just having Adem Yze coming home to the Dees will have a big inpact. Can you imagine the awe and the respect . One of our greats and not using the term loosely. His foot skills were exquisite and goal sense was uncanny. Clarkson has honed Yze's coaching skills he is ready and waiting. If he does come home it will be something. I can dream.

  21. While we're on the topic of Leppitsch ... Tiger fans I know credit the Tigers' turnaround to Leppitsch rather than any "road to Damascus" moment by Hardwick.

  22. It was a genuinely good game! One of the few I’ve seen this year that hasn’t totally made me wonder why I still bother with AFL.

  27. Hardwick was whinging again! Said tigers were undisciplined in giving up 5 goals from frees and 50m penalties while saying the umps were 'trigger happy' and they should let the players play. His team showed complacency and arrogance before the bounce and played that way. Got what they deserved. Hardwick is up there with Scott on my disliked coach list!

  28. One of the biggest differences between Lions, Tigers, Eagles, Power and the rest is the whole team buying in. They all play as a group. Complete belief in what they are doing. We are miles off that, all our wins have been on the back of 2-3 individuals having good games. We don’t go out with the unity and desire to perform the task that those top four do

  29. I liked to know who encouraged him to stack on weight? You kick 53 goals in a season, decide to put on 10 kgs in muscle for extra strength and think your going to perform the same way its insane.(Where were the coaches in all this?) He would have had to discuss it with Simon over a possible new role going forward closer to the goal square and its back fired massively. Tmac whatever weight you were playing at in 2018 get back to that and implement an agility program to regain your sharpness.

  32. Leppitsch, Yze, I.Smith, B.Brown and Polec add that to the class we already have in Petracca, May, Viney, Langdon, Oliver and Gawn that makes us a super team. So enjoy the ride ladies and gentleman because the flag is for us to lose next year GO DEES!

  33. Mahoney was one of our match day coaches during 186 Now he is our GM He also did our last internal club review himself And people wonder why we are systematic losers.

  34. I just showed my wife some highlights videos of Yze and she quickly noted, "Oh, he is in Fritsch's spot" because of all the close-to-the boundary 40-out beauties Yze was slotting. A theory is born - Yze is coming to Melbourne specifically to sort out Fritsch's kicking. Worth noting - in his third season Yze kick 9.16, so he knows how to miss and knows how to correct the problem.

  36. That's what you get when you leave it up to Umpires to adjudicate the BOG players when they generally have NFI how to adjudicate the game.

  37. Haven't heard specifically as such, but the impression I've got is that Mahoney and Goodwin have a bit of a clique which has meant Goodwin has had more say than maybe he should have. We've seen some good assistant coaches move on with the feeling being they were ones who challenged Goodwin (not in negative ways). Goodwin is seen as a pretty stubborn coach who doesn't utilize the strengths of others properly, something he has been 'talked to' about by some senior club people now. There's also been some other context with Mahoney being groomed by Jackson as his successor, only to be overlooked by Barlett for Pert. Personally, my take (from the outside) is that while Mahoney has done really well with trading; his management of the footy department and especially coaches has not been anywhere near that level.

  38. But that’s what I said. If, he stays in football, the Dees are a real chance. He might not get the opportunities outside of football in this COVID stuffed world. Let’s not underestimate that the Dees are now the great and enticing challenge of the AFL.

  39. Let’s face it if had of kicked straight this year he would be talked about just behind Petracca, Oliver, May and Gawn. Bailey has some freakish qualities and has more shots for goal than a mid sized forward should have. Doesn’t need a kicking coach, just needs to sort his head and he will be in All Australian contention

  42. The more informative article was about North sacking 6 coaches, and some big names. The MFC review is forced on them because they have to cut 3 million from their budget (extra $ 50K if you include the fine). AFL also introduced a rule that paying out coaches doesn't go on next years budget and are facilitating clearing out support staff at all clubs. The financial loses this season will not be recouped for many years and the existing levels of staff are not sustainable. Granted all clubs have the same problem but we will not replace like for like. By that I mean having a coach for everything ie at North Firrito has been let go as their next gen coach. I doubt that will be replaced. Burgoyne at Hawthorn will have a coaching role but stay on as a player, his wage come of the team budget not the soft cap. Jones I believe will have a similar role at MFC. Daniel Cross and Max Rooke have already been stood down. Many coaches will lose their jobs and others have their hours reduced. Does Max need a ruck coach? Perhaps not but maybe his role is the nurture Jackson and Bradtke. This is an AFL instigated restructure or disruption of all clubs coaching structures which I am pleased that Pert is running from the top down.

  43. Good signing and 2 year deal fair length. Hard match up who will only get better with more preseasons and games. Offers good positional flexibility which will become more important as list sizes reduce in coming years.

  45. Hardwick may have let slip a way to beat Richmond. He said Brisb made 'long spoils which took their small players out of play'. A simple tactic so when the ball goes to ground the Richmond players are out of position to crumb. For sure, Hardwick will change his strucures to counteract in future. Nonetheless, thought it showed good planning by Fagan and co. Hardwick also said 'their system beat our system'. It is a major achievement to beat the best system in the AFL Shows the value of an easy to follow game plan that is second nature to the players. Wish ours was like that.

  47. Oh FFS - so only serious reviews annually occur when a premiership is won? To the premiership winners? Or perhaps the top 8? You are old enough and wise enough to understand there are a whole range of things outside of your control - these things have been pointed out repeatedly to you and to others throughout the year. One last time for just 'some of the' factors (reasons, excuses) that have impinged on our season. Essendon AND Melbourne had a bye - at the beginning of a 15 game stretch... no other teams had that disadvantage Travel, multiple 'hubs' compared to a range of other teams that had limited travel...i could list what that impacts but i shant. If you think that these things do NOT affect the playing group and capacity to perform, and that it's all due to 'coaching' , you're either naive or stuck in 1966. As you said, Lenny would be a ripping fitness coach for you :) Still the most 'hardest' and most perpetually disappointed poster on here. Love ya guts.

  48. It would be acceptable to me if he left to refresh his career, and I'd expect only minimal trade return, but can people not throw abuse at the guy? Seriously, act like adults. There would be a question on our defensive depth but who knows, maybe the plan is to send his brother back there. T.Mac had a couple of seasons in defence almost as good as his 2018 in attack. Maybe being relieved of the pressure thanks to May and Lever being the 'stars' will freshen him up.
