  1. In all seriousness please take your ill informed, dangerous nonsense to some fringe facebook site. And keep it there.

  2. There seems to be a push to have all finals return to the traditional full quarters ie 20 min+ time on. There doesn't seem to be a good reason not to as their won't be a condensed schedule and minimal travel. I'm certainly for it and think it works in our favour (if we make it) as we are quite fit. I haven't seen any of our players put hands on knees or crouch down looking tired at the end of a game this year.

  4. The enforcement of the protected zone is a farce. In every game I’ve watched there are several infringements ignored. The rule needs a major rethink. Very often the offending player poses no threat to the player with the ball. But the penalty is enormous.

  5. I don't know how you can make such a sweeping generalisation. I love some Japanese food and some Vietnamese food and some Chinese food. Having been married to a Japanese person for over 20 years and having traveled there numerous times, I am more than familiar with the many different dishes (many of which are not to be found here)... some of which are, to my taste, inedible (try the dried fish called Kusaya, or Nama-ko which is a raw sea cucumber dish. What we get here is just a fraction of what is available in those countries... particularly Chinese food (in China) as there are so many distinctly different regional dishes... and of course, to my tastes, some are almost inedible as well. Anyway, how can we tie this in to post game discussion... kicking around the foodie's football?

  9. Can't believe anyone on here talked him up. Yeah he has his "on" days but nights like tonight is the norm rather than the exception. Totally overrated because Essendon and because Daniher. If he was Joe Bloggs no-one would be much interested.

  15. Seriously? He's one of those whose tackles at least stick. His defensive pressure has been good since coming back into the team. Those two tackles he laid in the final 60 seconds were superb.

  21. Just wanna give a nod to Binman for opening this thread, then to he and EO and AoB and AF and everyone else who've chipped in. I'm now convinced that Goodwin is onto something that will gives the team an advantage. Now all we need is a couple more players to lift the skill level, a bit of development, and the confidence to implement the plan under pressure. A couple more seasons and we could be top four consistently...

  22. I've watched Logan McDonald a few times and he is fantastic. Current equal leader in the WAFL goalkicking as an 18 year old! He will go top 10 for sure if not top 5. Don't know about the Jack Darling comparison, he has a good engine but doesn't look like he'll be as solid as Darling. His physique reminds me of Westhoff from Port. His aerial ability is impressive. Don't know about the other two you mentioned.

  24. The AFL is doing the right thing by trying to limit concussions as much as possible. Supporters should think about long-term effects to Polly Farmer, Danny Frawley and current cases like Kade Kolodjashnij, Paddy McCartin etc. next time they complain about fines and suspensions for sling tackles, elbows to the head, shirtfronts and rough conduct. Or even worse, complaining about how the "biff" is going out of the game.

  25. Just looking at this trade with the benefit of some hindsight. “MELBOURNE has added some much-needed outside run by securing wingman Ed Langdon from Fremantle. The Demons handed over picks No.22, 79 and a future second-round selection for the 23-year-old, while the Dockers gave up Langdon, pick No.26 and a future fourth-round selection.” So we effectively got Langdon for a 4 spot down grade (that we used on Trent Rivers) and a future second rounder. This could end up being one our best ever trades.

  28. He was last man on the goal line to mark. He took the ball and distributed it well through half back. He was in good position and his skills were good in general. He was often first man Jon defensive chains, and didn’t get caught or turn it over badly. Which second efforts concern you? I saw him zoning and positioning himself off the key backs. Anyway, each to their own. He may not have a matchup vs Sydney.

  32. We all know that if they start dishing out suspensions it will stop these acts dead in their tracks yet all I hear from the experts on acts like these is "Nah no suspension, should just get a fine". These people are usually the same ones calling for the harder penalties and saying fines do nothing. Too much foot in both camps for me. Get serious AFL or go home.

  33. Lol, it really is amazing how quick our brains switch into MFCSS mode in the dying seconds of a close game with us in front. Must admit I was even pleading with Melksham not to do anything stupid on the mark after giving the free kick away before the Kent mark.

  35. The late Norm Smith, who played in four Melbourne premierships and coached another six, was a strong disciplinarian. Known as the Red Fox for his auburn hair and his cunning, Smith was a man of a different age to the here and now. Born during the Great War, he survived the Spanish Flu Pandemic, grew up in depression times, played mostly through the Second World War and its aftermath and coached in a period of rebuilding and recovery to a time of prosperity. Smith’s success was built on team discipline from which he developed closely knit teams that cut no corners to be the fastest, fittest and most confident side on the park. He would make debutants sit out their entire first game on the bench and once ordered a player who turned up to training with a mustache to shave it off. The days of the hard nosed disciplinarian football coaches are long gone but this does not mean that discipline is unimportant in developing a team ethic. We saw this at the weekend when Demons’ coach Simon Goodwin bit the bullet and omitted then leading goal kicker Bayley Fritsch for turning up late to the team’s final training session at its Sunshine Coast hub. Tom McDonald and James Harmes also sat the game out against the Saints after a series of below par games. It was a strong statement from the coach. Few Demon fans would have imagined earlier in the year that McDonald, Harmes and Fritsch would all be dropped on the eve of an all important season defining match but this was a logical consequence of having so many players turning up late after the main break in their game against the Bulldogs. Against the Saints who dominated statistically in most key performance indicators bar accuracy in front of goal, they willed themselves over the line to pull off an unexpected but gritty victory that lifted them into the top eight. We are about to discover in the coming weeks whether it was luck or something deeper and more significant. On the face of it, the immediate road ahead against two lowly sides in Sydney and Fremantle in short sequence in Far North Queensland appears straightforward. But not so fast. The game against the Swans at Cazaly’s Stadium is scheduled to start at 4.40pm in steamy conditions with temperatures in their high 20s and with the next game taking place four days later. The challenge for the coaching panel is to add resilience to the hard effort that saw them make the most of their chances in Alice Springs. The Demons can’t rest on their laurels against the flakey Swans who only recently put on a blinder to beat their more talented crosstown rivals. Melbourne must take care therefore, to work hard at improving on takeaways from stoppages. Despite the presence of an All Australian ruckman and a much vaunted contested ball winning midfield, they were well beaten in the clearances last week. And as much as improvement is needed in getting more of the ball into attack, the forwards have to lift their game when it gets there. Last week’s tally of twelve scores for the game is hardly enough to win most games — it’s up to the small and medium forwards to apply more pressure on the opposition defence and to set up scoring more opportunities. Melbourne’s strength last week was in its defence which, apart from a couple of lapses late in the second term, strangled the opposition of scoreboard oxygen. For most of this season, Sydney has struggled to hit the scoreboard particularly when the dynamic Tom Papley has been kept quiet. If the Demon defenders stick to their game, they will go a long way to helping their side to the four points against the injury depleted Swans. A good win could see them overtake St Kilda on the ladder and put even greater pressure on the teams below that are lining up for a place in the finals. For the Melbourne Football Club which languished in so much disappointment in 2019, it could mean that Goodwin’s strong statement at the selection table last week is about to bring about lasting consequences that would have made the Red Fox proud. 36. I haven't thought too much about what actual changes should be made, but if Rivers doesn't play this week, I'll be spitting chips. I'm guessing probably Fristch should be one of the ins and I'd also like to see Hunt get a game, if only to give Kossie a break, but I also think Hunt has earnt his spot and would provide some good scoring power and pressure in our forward line. Kossie is also a bit of a tease and I'm not sure I can handle another game of that. His pressure acts are good and probably justify his place in the side, but he hasn't been holding his feet enough, finding enough footy and/or kicking enough goals to be truely dangerous in enough games for my liking. Still he's just in his first year and I'm sure the experience playing at the top level is doing him good and one day he will explode and start tearing games open on a regular basis.

  37. No problem at all, mate. Happy to see those numbers and you should always pull people up if they're throwing out false stats. The numbers I'm referencing were from the Fox broadcast on the weekend. It only included forwards and had Butler (STK) first, Lonie (STK) second and Pickett (MEL) 4th. Others may be able to verify that I wasn't dreaming it!

  41. Sorry mate, can't agree with this at all and I think you're forgetting a big percentage of staff have been stood down so the media department is currently running on fumes. Go back and watch To Hell & Back and see what you think of our media department and 'video department'. The production, footage, direction and quality of content was top notch. The media department has been absolutely nailing it this year. And no offence, but I don't think you understand the difference between a YouTuber and a media production department. They're not similar things. On top of that, thinking we'll outsource something as important as marketing and content production to some volunteers is pretty out of touch.

  42. Greene did get a fine. Still, the system is broken. Lynch and Greene receiving nothing but fines for blatant, non-football dog acts, is a joke. Both should have been suspended to remind the league that punching players and smacking their heads into the turf is not what you should be doing.

  43. When has that ever stopped them from outrageous inconsistent decisions that defy precedent or even common sense? 100% They can start with a panel of people who are not lawyers and who have never played Aussie Rules football. But who have played high level sport (rugby, hockey, basketball). Compile a list of incidents from the past, covering most things ... sling tackles, punching, off the ball, etc etc ... and tell them "this incident should get 1 week", "this other incident should get 2 weeks", and so on. That's their reference library. And it should not necessarily reflect the actual punishments given by Mr "Protect the Stars" Christian, as making sense of that is bad for one's mental health. What's more, it's the act that is penalised. The outcome can weight the penalty, but the act itself should be the focus of scrutiny. Each week the panel goes over the cited incidents, compares them to the reference library, and decides on a punishment. In a perfect world, the panel would not need to be so exclusive, but the AFL have poisoned their MRP/tribunal system over the years to where no-one can have faith in ex-players being either objective or not bamboozled by ever-changing justifications. Christian himself seems punch drunk.

  46. I don't understand this point about passengers. You don't get that defensive structure without everyone on board. We had players that made mistakes with ball in hand and some of those might miss a game next week, but we shut down a very good running team with a stunning 18-man defence. One example I would give is Brayshaw. Had a quiet night but he ran constantly from east to west to combat the Saints spread and switch. That's not a passenger in my view. On a side note, another point I would make is that defensive efforts are not always reflected in tackles or any other stat. Sometimes corralling and forcing a kick to an advantageous position is better than a tackle. Don't get me wrong, this performance was far from perfect and we have plenty of players that need to get better around the ball and with ball in hand, but you don't get a performance like that from May, for example, without everyone pulling their weight, defensively.
