We just beat a top 4 contender with about 8 passengers. That could define our season.33 points

I think that's the best defensive game I've ever seen by a dee. May is a beast!27 points

Langdon is a great two way runner and has had a really good season. He’s saved us getting back into defense when our other midfielders can’t be bothered. He deserves recognition.25 points

We've lost so many close ones to the Saints in recent times - makes this so much sweeter!20 points

Also, for all those worried about match ups and so froth: The recruit of the season, Dan Butler, didn't hit the scoreboard and had minimal impact. What an effort from the back line as a whole.19 points

My heart couldn't cope that last quarter!! STEVEN MAY!!!! CHRISTIAN PETRACCA!!!!!18 points

Go you bloody Redlegs! Stick that one up you, half of Demonland! We totally took away their game and they had no answers. Everyone bangs on about how good Ratten is, made no moves at all on May, stuck to his plan (as most modern coaches do) and King wasn't good enough on May, who was utterly dominant bar two moments where he was outmuscled. Our defenders and defensives systems totally bossed them. Utterly choked them. Take a bow, Steven May. The best game he's played for the club, by some way. He's had a really great season. I'm happy for him. Lever was a handy support player. Oscar... vulnerable. Oliver did some important running early in the game, but didn't come into the game until the last. Showed what a competitor he is. Loved that moment in the last where he burst away from the contest and hit the next target. Petracca was incredible in the 1v1s and 1v4s(!), let them score one easy goal from the centre stoppage with poor defensive marking, otherwise he and May were the difference. That match winning goal was Dustin Martinesque. For all the talk about Butler, did a couple of nice things, but our systems didn't let him do it often enough and he only got it 11 times. Some really important stopping from Viney in midfield. Didn't get it a lot but his defensive role around the stoppage was vital. I was wrong there. Glad we played him midfield tonight. If he's going to play midfield, I reckon he needs to play the defensive role, unless Oliver is quiet. Langdon's run was great as usual, as was Hibberd's, before injuring himself. Rivers is a really impressive young player. Great poise, toughness and good ball use. Well done, Jason Taylor. Another Taylor Special. After a slow start, Wagner worked into the game and was well positioned a number of times, and ended up being a handy contributor. I think one of Salem's best games for the club. Really solid in defence. Good ball use. Spargo laid a couple of really important tackles at key moments. That last tackle near the final siren to ensure we got the stoppage and it didn't ping back the other way was massive. I thought Hannan and Kozzie really struggled, although Kozzie at least laid some tackles. Still, we didn't let their half backs zip off half back. I disagree with the sentiment that we had a lot of passengers. Hannan didn't do enough and Kozzie tries to be too fancy instead of taking the game on, but other than that we put in a really solid 3.5 quarter effort. I also disagree with what Jordan Lewis said after the game, about neither side really getting their game going. What we delivered tonight is our game. Our mids weren't on the top of their game, but they defended really well in tandem with our defenders and our forwards. We're developing ways of winning when our stoppage game is taken away from us. And that's team defence. And we beat another side who beat us in the clearances and inside 50s. Exactly as we did to Collingwood and very similar to what we did to Brisbane. The tackle count is a really interesting stat too. They beat us in that 36-47, so it was all about the defensive zones and how well set up we were. Every time they looked up, they wanted to go off half back, but couldn't. Every time they tried to switch, the zone migrated quickly across the ground. The players need to bring this every week. The game style wins finals. It's now up to this group to bring the effort consistently.16 points

The thing that I liked was that unlike many games in the past when we dominated the stats and lost, we won this one despite the Saints winning the inside 50s 46-30, clearances 29-23, tackles 47-36, free kicks 11-9, hitouts 31-30 and scoring shots 14-12.16 points

I can't believe it. I'm exhausted. What a massive, massive win for this club. We stuck at it all night and beat a prospective Top 4 side with a gutsy win. I'm so proud of the club. Trac and May absolutely massive. I love this club.16 points

Josh Wagner looked a complete different player today. No offence to Harmes but Wagner played that half back position better then Harmes ever has this year. Steven May, i am sorry for questioning the trade. You are simply magnificent.15 points

So last week Demonland was happy to sink the boots into Goody and co for the loss against the doggies, so by the same token there needs to be big props given to him for the way we suffocated the Saints ball use. You could see at the end they tried to create to the overlap using Hill but our defence still held firm. I would go so far to say this was one of his best coaching performances, certainly on a defensive front. For the players, May was clear BOG. Brad Johnson said for fox footy then that he doesn’t have that game then we do t win and that is spot on. Langdon has been the pick up of the year for us, he was very prolific and mostly quite good. Petracca’s midfield numbers were low but jeez his goals were huge, if it were at a ground with the goal line camera would his goal stand? Not sure. Defensively we did well, but I think by the numbers we might look at this as a game we got away with a bit. We got our early lead and kept the game tight after that. I really thought that last minute of the second quarter was going to bite us. But this is a massive win. Against a team that we traditionally seem to lose to, a team higher on the ladder, and an 8 point game.14 points

Don't want to hear another word about the trade for May, i think his performances over the season and especially tonight have justified the pick 6. A trade special.14 points

Jakey Lever and Ed Langdon not getting enough love. Both won some huge critical one on ones. Lingers is a beauty!13 points

Brown didn't do a lot, but did enough and did everything right That back with the flight contest, the long goal, and the last 3 mins clutch possession on the far side means he's still in for me12 points

Maxy summed it up best, making us smile back at home. That’s all we need sometimes, don’t really care how it looked, really gutsy win. Praise again for May and Trac. Incredible the both of them. Special mentions to Lever, Hibbo, Salem, Langdon and Captain Max.11 points

Hibbered in the last 1 minute of the game saved us with a game saving tackle. That's as courageous as it gets after looking like he wouldn't come back on.11 points

Tracc is a star....Clarry epic last quarter. I'm not sure how they won as the umps would not pay us a thing in that last quarter but i'll take it.11 points

I am so happy for Steven May. I hope the media give him the credit he deserves. He has been outstanding all season and tonight he was just so reliable. Langdon is becoming a very good player. I can see why we wanted him. Trac set it up beautifully in the 1st quarter. I'm just happy. It's a relief to get a win and against a team that was above us.10 points

Big Maxy, what a great captain. When asked in an interview what does a big win like this mean, Max's response was that he was "I'm just proud that we can put a smile on some people's faces back in Melbourne". Maxy has such a great connection with us supporters with his down to earth, easy going approach. Love ya Maxy.10 points

Steven May had the game of his life He is so composed and the Captain of the back line. He is all Class and was outstanding . That was almost the Perfect Game. Had a big say in winning and that goes for Petracca what a GUN.10 points

May saved it. Trac won it. Oliver rose when it mattered in the last. Unusual to see us win when we don’t have control of playing our way. That was a true grinding win.10 points

I can see Rivers becoming an absolute star of the competition. He can defend and use it very well. But the thing that stands out for me, and goes way back even to pre-season games. The now 5 game veteran has made some kicking errors, but in no way shape or form does he let that get in his head. He'll turn around and go in just as hard, and again bite off another hard kick, this time to perfection. Can't remember which preseason game it was. He kicked a howler. Next kick, within a minute, pinpoint perfection. Got ourselves a goodun9 points

Saw this quote tonight which I thought you would all enjoy: If you want to measure an angle, use a protractor. If you want to win a game, use a Petracca.9 points

We were 15 points up at that time, with one minute to go. I believe that assisted greatly in ruining the second quarter.9 points

Petracca kicking four is what makes him a star. He might not have had the same influence up the ground, especially with Seb Ross shadowing him, but he was able to make a massive impact inside 50 which helped us win the game.9 points

Kudos to Josh Wagner who looked impressive on return. Had a couple of early fumbles but was a solid contributor all night.9 points

Word just in May has been charged with regicide after tonight's performance.9 points

Tough game to watch in the last quarter however the Dees did it for all of us supporters. May and Petracca were the two best players on the ground and couldn't split them. I want to give some credit to Josh Wagner he was consistent all night and he can hold his head high. Well done Josh.9 points

First time under Goodwin that we executed a specific gameplan for a specific side. Some horrendous turnovers as we tried to implement a possession game with our skill set, however that was a confidence builder. Reminded me of what Geelong did to us. Denied the oppo their 1 wood first and foremost9 points

I'd happily trade another 4 first round draft picks for May. Holy (censored), this man can seriously play.9 points

Steven May, we are not worthy!!! says as I’m on my knees bowing down to the great man!9 points

My point is that May is able to get those marks because the set up allowed him to. I get annoyed at people happy to say “Goodwin completely outcoached” when we lose but when we win it’s down to the players. I wasn’t happy with Goody’s coaching last week, but this week they worked on the structure and executed it well.8 points

"Petracca’s midfield numbers were low but jeez his goals were huge, if it were at a ground with the goal line camera would his goal stand? Not sure. The GOal Umpire was less than 2 metres from the ball/player and called it a goal. I do not think the review system does anything for the game !!! Because the media think it is perfect. Goal Umpires are part of the game just like umpires. Do we stop to review every decision the field umpire makes ????8 points

The backline was incredible. We got shown up by the Dogs last week in terms of defending the width of the ground but we clearly lifted today. May should get 3 Brownlow votes. Lever and Hibberd weren't far behind. Rivers played well too.8 points
