  1. I would have chased Caracella hard as senior assistant, I'm still undecided on Goody, people who say there's been no change are off the mark. Results may still be disappointing but the players are trying to hold the ball a little to long to try and hit up a target. The forward line is looking to have been made a little more mobile, but whilst we're not at last years coversion % for inside 50s, it's still not great. The defence needs continuity and unfortunately father time has caught up with Nev. I couldn't care less about the North trade, I like what I have seen in Kossie, Rivers and Jackson. Trades - The North trade happy Lever - was showing goods signs before the knee but needs continuity although IMO the price was to high May - turned up unfit but as above but after 2018 was desperately needed Langdon and Tomlinson for me a little to early to call but like the 2 way running which we hadn't had previously My hope was to target Casboult ( as posted on Dland) when he was OOC to give Tmac a chop out whilst Weid stayed in the VFL for another year or so, but such is life

  2. Saty, the current group in charge are not doing a very good job. That is a fact. Supporters have every right to air their opinion and suggest changes or ideas. Especially when they are being asked to shell out hard-earned coin on top of their annual membership, to help bail the club out. A club that has given very little the other way, in terms of value for money, over recent years.

  3. Rubbish. People who join the military do so knowing the sacrifices up front. No AFL player has ever signed up to a season expecting to leave behind their families for weeks on end. It is a ridiculous notion to suggest they are soft. It is such a hard decision and for players with young children, newborns, babies on the way, perhaps ill parents, or no other family support around their partners to help with small kids, it is very much a lose-lose. I feel for everyone in this situation, and I wouldn't begrudge any player who chose their family in what is already a compromised season. This is a job for players, and very few people would put their job ahead of their family.

  4. Not yet it's not... We got 3 good pics this year that we otherwise wouldn't have had. The coming draft is a raffle with no exposed form and the father son/academy picks.

  9. And yet Goodwin has not a shred of pressure on him. Well done to our brilliant board for giving him a long term contract as if he was a hot commodity in danger of going elsewhere. Idiots.

  10. Geelong kicked 7 goals for the game, the backline did a pretty good job. Why would you replace any of them? give smith a chance, hr has played 2 games.

  11. Both travelled in an Uber then Sidebottom travelled to a covid unauthorised Collingwood staff member. sidebottom-dunn-in-covid-hot-water-after-drinks-with-howe On the basis of Spargo got two weeks as he was the senior player Sidebottom should also get two weeks. However: "...it's believed rigorous negotiations continue between the AFL and Collingwood". No prizes for guessing if some 'mitigating' circumstances are discovered. But Sidebottom is vice-captain. He should get extra simply on the basis of poor leadership.

  13. We recruited him as a wingman. Bit harsh to judge it on three games where he has been far from our worst. He'll be fine.

  15. Nigh on 13 years, 10 years in football admin. From Wikipedia: Assistant Coach (forward) 2008 to 2011 In September 2011, Mahoney was appointed Melbourne's Football Manager after Mark Neeld was appointed as senior coach. In September 2013, Mahoney was appointed Melbourne's General Manager - Football Operations by CEO Peter Jackson. When Pert had the FD review last year, I strongly argued on DL that Mahoney should not have been involved in the review of his own department; a department where he had been party to nearly every coaching appointment/departure and overseen list management since 2016 (half way thru Roos' last season) and could not possibly be objective nor independent. The FD on and off field is of his making. Not sure the length of his contract but assuming it was 3 years it would expire this year or next.

  16. And this is my point, Dazzle. If that's all you are after, play Brown. Was he poor Round 1? Yep. But I'd argue that a rocket from Goody and a 2nd chance would've been far more productive than getting dropped for a teenager that was nowhere near ready to play senior footy. Far more productive for the player, and far more productive for the team.

  17. Usually here if we play on a Sunday the pattern goes: Sunday & Monday - Anger Tuesday - Confusion moving into sarcasm Wednesday - Productive thought Thursday - Hope, leading to confusion again at about 6.25pm Friday - Head shaking Saturday - Hope again

  18. Yep, as frustrating as the modern game. The instinct has been coached out of players. The game looked better when forwards actually ran at the ball rather than running with it. Screw the trend of scoring from the forward half Goody, it’s clearly not working for us at the moment. I don’t fully buy the notion of our boys being that lazy in two way running, what I see is a lot of confusion ( structure/zone wise) when the opposition commences slow movement from the back. If we stand here they are bound to turn it over eventually mentality.

  20. Absolutely... I really cannot remember a team which dominates most games they play in the key stats, i50s, clearance & contested ball.. yet cannot win consistently or put teams away. I really do hang onto the hope that we are 1 step away from making it click but this frustration is really getting old. We need to make this work and fast, we already have an entire generation of fans embarrassed to support the dees as we have been dog [censored] for over a decade. There will be no supporters left if we need to rebuild again.

  21. Given it’s officially the crazy season, I’ll put forward that the MFC look for a Croad like return for our prodigal son, Jess “the HULK” Hogan... maybe not this year... or even next year but then bring him home... #2022BringJessHome

  22. We had a moment the weekend before last when everyone else was playing - and we weren’t. I simply cannot imagine not having the Dees to look forward to. No matter how misguided, under performing or mismanaged the masses on this forum feel about us. Once we are gone, we will never, ever, be coming back. Worth thinking about.

  23. They both have had injuries, but were part of a defence Sunday that only conceded 7 goals. Pretty good I would have thought.

  26. Nice attempt at moving the conversation. Demonland is a forum where supporters bring up a topic and then others can have their opinion on that topic. This topic is, "Is Mahoney the right guy" Now it would be wonderful if our topics were, Dees win three in a row, Hogan on top of the goalkicking, Demons get a home preliminary final, but that is not reality. You gave the game away again with your, face to face like men comment. I reckon the extend of you fronting an MFC official would be complaining about the bread on your cheese board. The only board that would have you.

  27. This is a very good post, but one qualifier needs to be added. Nurses can do their job for 40 years and so can teachers. The best professional footballers might get 15 years (and a few exceptional ones a little longer). Most will have a playing career far shorter than that. Once they've finished playing football, there are far fewer jobs within football to continue with gainful employment in the same industry and many will not have an obvious career path to follow in retirement. In addition, many will finish with chronic injuries and pain. Yes, they choose it as their career, but I think we should be mindful of these additional matters before we criticise what they earn.

  31. Casboult has never been more than a serviceable player. We’re four games into a highly compromised year and posters want to bring a 31 year old to the club next season? The mind boggles.

  35. Your stats are flawed. If you don't want to look at Brown's 2019 because he was the main target (although it could be argued that they looked for Stringer more than Brown), then you can't look at Casboult's game against Essendon (which was undoubtedly his best game for the year, also where he was their main target). And again, I will talk about the logic of our FD. Look at Levi's game against us in Round 2 - he was terrible, and arguably as poor as Brown in Round 1 (Brown arguably up against a far superior backline). Difference? Casboult kept his spot, played a much better game the next week against Geelong (see my comments last week about the benefit of playing as the 2nd and 3rd tall vs Geelong's backline), and was very good against Essendon. Brown? Got dropped after 1 game for a kid. I'm parking the discussion here. Reality is, Casboult isn't on our list, and is 4 games in to a (compromised) season where he turned 30 before the first game. I'll reassess his performance at the end of the season and get back to you.

  37. This is where both your logic and the Football Department's logic just don't make sense to me. You're asking for a role player, not a saviour, which is not an unrealistic request. You have then offered the name of Casboult as a possible target (your 2nd choice). If that's all we are asking (ie role-player, not saviour), then I can't see why we wouldn't be playing Weid or Brown. They are both as capable, if not more so, than Levi, and are both presently on our list. The logic of the FD that I don't understand is that we clearly need a 2nd tall forward, yet they have two of them running around in a scratch match that can do it but refuse to pick them.

  38. This is it. IMO We are on the edge of either breaking through and doing a Geelong of 2007, starting slowly and then just destroying a team to get the season going, or we just clunk along and eventually crash. Last year even with all of our injuries we were dominating matches in key stats but couldn't win. Even in round 2 against Geelong we were down by 28 points early in the 3rd, went forward like 20 times and couldn't score. Geelong went forward 5 times in the third quarter and scored 5 goals. Suddenly it's a 10 goal deficit. We then lose by 80 points. It was symbolic of the entire season. This year has been exactly the same. We win the ball everywhere but don't convert. There will not be an in between imo. We will either start smoking teams, or we will finish bottom 4.

  39. tomlinson and langdon have been brought in to play the wings and carry the ball, and already for what felt like half the first quarter we were playing tomlinson in the ruck - let's leave him where he was brought in to play rather than trying to turn tomlinson into a chb or chf fwiw, tomlinson lead the metres gained for the entire match by some margin - he had 503 (more than dangerfield, cats' best, by 30) with viney (433), salem (288), langdon (281), may (280), and petracca (259) our only players over 250 compared to 6 over 300 for the cats previous week langdon was the only player to get over 450, with salem miles back on 355 our next best

  40. I still love Hogan and want to see him do well but I think he has peaked. He just doesn't have the mentality to succeed which is a shame because I think he did when he first started. Everyone knows what he's had to deal with and it seems he is still working through it all. By the time he figures it out it will be too late. I saw an instance on the weekend where he was ripping in to a teammate for burning him on the lead instead of turning around and impacting the next contest. If that's not out of his game by now its here to stay.

  41. What are the ramifications for the FD if we don't play finals this year considering the 4 year strategy unveiled at the AGM was to play finals every year from 2020-2023? If a decision had to be made on Goodwin would the club be able to pay him out considering he is contracted to end of 2022? What are the implications for the board who approved Goodwin's contract extension if we are hamstrung by that contract? When will we hear any concrete announcements regarding a home base? Timeframes? What revenue streams are we going to rely on to make up the lost revenue after we exit from the pokies? What other revenue streams are the board working on to make up the shortfall in revenue in 2020? Have the AFL confirmed we will be hosting Anzac Eve and Queens Birthday next year? That's a start
