  1. Don't get me wrong, I'm no leftie! Players often claim the AFL is a 'family'. In reality players are a fraternity within that 'family'. Its time they 'walk the talk' and take care of that family, especially the more vulnerable within it as well as their own blood families. If I was a player under the average pay and have already lost match payments I would be fast losing respect for the so called leaders. Dangerfield etal are letting their teflon coated egos get the better of them.

  3. I've said this a few times on other threads. This is definitely not the time... I sure hope the club is not this insensitive.

  4. I find it reprehensible that players led by Dangerfield and mouthpiece Nick Riewoldt are digging their heals in on pay cuts. Their seemingly reasonable offer (reasonable to them) to take a 50% cut till end of May actually equates to just 8% per annum! Meanwhile, those they rely on the most to earn any income at all: coaches, football, fitness, medical staff and even admin staff have lost their jobs or work cut back. Realistically, players (about 400 of them) earning less than the average of about $350,000 is already taking a massive pay cut because their contracts would have a large 'matches played' component. It is Dangerfield, Riewoldt and the like that have the big guaranteed contracts. Where is their care for their younger, less experienced colleagues? I would have a bit sympathy if the 'leaders' said any player with a contract less than (eg) $100,000 was protected from any reduction. Note: this player would have already lost income by loss of 'match payments'. This would cover Rookies, first and second year draftees. Then a sliding scale % increase with size of contract so the bigger the contract the bigger the hair cut in $ terms. Right now, Dangerfield and Riewoldt look like greedy and stubborn plicks!!

  5. I reckon the moment they are allowed to play again is the time to do this. Many of us dont know if we have the cash or income to ‘cross the bridge’, let alone support the MFC

  6. OK, we're all a bit bored here so, further to that Peter Marquis post and veering completely off topic, I've gone the extra mile and come up with a cricket team for your consideration. In batting order, they are Nathan Jones, David Hasselhoff, Sid Vicious, Shane MacGowan, Waylon Smithers, Peter Marquis, Damien Monkhorst, Bill Dunk, Lou Reed, Colin Miller and Scarlett Johansson. Or, if you prefer, Chunky, Hunky, Punky, Drunky, Flunky, Trunky, Monkey, Dunky, Junky, Funky and Spunky. Phew!

  7. A little bit of light for the club is that our very own Karen Paxman has tied with North Melbourne’s Jasmine Garner and Carlton's Maddy Prespakis for the AFLW Player of the Year Award. Congratulations to a terrific player who truly deserved this award!

  8. It would be a brave or maybe brash move right now. There are members who may be looking for membership refunds rather than chipping in some more coin. And it would make more business sense to wait until the AFL package is known and piggy-back off it. At least a DD program would have some context. And it would be useful if they announce some reduction in senior management salary packages at the same time. Btw, didn't Pert say that at EOFY 2019 we only $2.0m in Debt - has it ballooned since then? If @Palace Deesis correct there is a lot the club has to get right to avoid a PR disaster and broader member discontent despite the willingness of DL to chip in. We are the diehards. There are about 35,000 members out there that may not see it as we do. A time for the club to tread carefully.

  9. I think the club should be holding off on it for now, there’s a lot going on in the world and people are still trying to figure things out. Australia isn’t even in lockdown. When it happens, I’m on board and will gladly dip in, but it could be a PR nightmare is they don’t time it right.

  10. I knew that would be Dangerfield before I even clicked it. What an unbearable [censored].

  11. Lockdown is absolutely NOT ridiculous, its imperative. I hope its over soon, but i think we are looking at a minimum 3 months until any positive signs. The sooner everyone gets their head around it, the better. The positives out of this wont be felt for a while but they will be plentiful, life will be balanced, people will rest and will connect, pollution is down, oceans are cleaner. Stay safe.

  12. Absolutely it should be a sliding scale. Top earners (Dangermouse, Reiwoldt, Buddy, Dusty etc) should be showing leadership in this regard to help out their fellow players that are earning base salaries. Totally understand they're feeling a pinch as well but jeez there are others out there doing it a whole lot tougher.

  13. I reckon the. Players on less than $80000 shouldn’t have the same reductions as the others.

  14. All too true. Might as well have the club go out to our older members with pre-filled Demon Will Kits.

  16. My point is that the timing is not right at the moment. In relation to saving the club... family, close friends come first...the club is down the list and I think many would be of that opinion. Let things shake out a bit before making any moves on a save the club fund. It just wouldn't be a good move in the current environment.

  17. Well thank you Frankie. I must say I'm not always very scientific but we all must try and do our bit in these difficult times. To that end, my BDSM club made, made what I consider, a very thoughtful attempt at responsible behaviour during our weekend soiree . In order to abide by the conventions of "social distancing" we simply used longer whips. No fuss but quite effective.

  23. Well well well. Someone, in the opinion business, gets it wrong. Let's call him names, let's vent and let's not recognize that in footy we've all been horribly wrong at times. He had an opinion. He didn't hurt anyone but now we'll start vilifying him shall we??

  24. I know I have posted on this technique before, but the Indian squat makes toilet paper redundant. How do you think I coped during the Italian and Spanish Civil Wars, let alone on my hunting and fishing exploits. Clean, hygienic and efficient. And forget the gym. Its a great way to strengthen your quads, improve core strength and lower back, and for old guys like myself, improves balance out of sight. The other benefits include fertilizing your veggie patch, pot plants and roses. Garden paths, front porches, outside the backdoor and driveways should be avoided. . Close to the fence of unpleasant neighbours, preferably close to a back door or open window is therapeutic for controlling anger and mood.

  28. Or the players aren't good enough, at least in terms of decision-making and disposal under pressure. Half of our I50's came from just 3 players: Langdon, Hibberd, Viney. Great disposers of the ball? I think not. Compared to WC, where their leading I50 disposer was Kelly, as sublime a kick as there is.

  30. Congrats to May (and Viney) for winning selection in the team of the week for afl.com. https://www.afl.com.au/news/389954/team-of-the-week-r1-who-makes-the-cut- He's rightly copped it from all and sundry, but full credit to him for keeping a gun full forward goal-less.

  31. Last October I spoke to a former member of the coaching staff who commented when asked about what he thought of Brayshaw, that although he thought he was a great guy and full of potential, ”Gus needs to decide whether or not he wants to be an AFL footballer...”

  32. Quality thread idea. So my flight to Bangkok got cancelled. I was due to go there on April 6 to my wifes home in rural Thailand. We have been married for 7 years, but i havent seen her since early July last year. Now it looks like its going to be somewhere around 18 months by the time i see her again face to face. Sent emails today to Thai Airways and also for the internal flights airline in the hope of a refund. Cant cancel my leave as the roster is already full. Cant fly to the Brothers place in QLD either as i would be lucky to get there, and almost certain not to get a flight home.. My gym is now closed so i cant go there either. So i called work and told them i am happy to cover any shifts i can during my annual leave if our nurses need extra time off to care for their kids who now have no school to attend. There WILL be some who have to take extra time off now that School isnt an option for the ruggies. Easy to feel sorry for myself, and i did have my moments. Then i remember that my job as a Nurse makes me safe from the threat of job loss. I am even in the position that i could tell my daughter not to worry herself sick about losing her job at Bunnings as i can cover her mortgage until she gets some income. Sure, im also in an industry where my risk of catching "The bug" is fairly high, and i do have a health condition that makes my risk of death from it almost 15%, but hey, it could be much worse. As long as i dont infect my 79-80 Yo. parents with something i bought home from work, it should be ok. Will feel pretty rubbish if i bring home the bug that kills them. So yeah, its crap that i cant see the Wife for ages. What can you do. I feel a lot less sorry for myself when i see the lines at Centerlink on todays news.So many people losing their jobs with 10's or even 100's of thousands of others still to lose theirs. Be nice to your neighbors and dont abuse the poor checkout chick for the 1 pack pasta limit. Its not her fault. Stay classy and look after each other in whatever way you can.

  33. You've been on here for long enough JSK for a pattern to become apparent with your posting style. You'll post something outrageously stupid or stupidly outrageous and then slink away when called out for it, only to pop again much further down the track with something even more risible. There's a word for people like you and most forums ban such posters. Don't bother coming back at me, the only place for those of your ilk is the ignore list and that is where you now reside.

  34. It's maudlin, but it's true. If this kicks off like it has in Europe, this will be the last season of footy for some DeeLanders. Forced retirement, not 4 to 6. I'm not quite sure what we can do to look after each other; we share a love for this Club and have endured together through so much [censored]. I saw a flag in '64, but I'm not sure my son will. It might just be worth checking in on each other once in a while. If you get crook, you might like to let DL know. We are, as they say, all in this together, and the odd (queue @Bitter but optimistic) message might lift the spirits. This isn't a drill. Stay safe. Stay at home. Go Dees.

  40. I work as part of a team that puts together bespoke safaris in Africa and we were told that we'll be going down to a four day week. With the world in lockdown nobody will be booking anything for quite some time unfortunately so that four days could end up being much less if things don't turn around relatively soon. I had made plans to go for an early morning swim each day off but now that the local pool has been shut indefinitely I'll be out on the bike riding the capital city trail to keep the serotonin levels up. If anyone happens to be out on the track early doors I'll be donning a mint green helmet with the little Dees bumper sticker placed discreetly on the back. Happy to stop for a coffee and chat (at arms length of course) in one of my favourite hole in the wall cafes along the route if you flag me down.

  42. I've been banging on this for ages. We need to recruit players with excellent disposal skills or work bloody hard on existing to up skill them over whatever period we have out of the game. We get ball easily enough. We just give it back far to easily.

  44. $1,000,000 says that didn't happen. I mean come on, you happened to run into the same 4 people at 3 separate supermarkets? Wouldn't it have taken them a while to empty the shelves, then make it through the checkouts (which as we all know takes forever), while you walked in and out empty handed? If you're going to make up a blatant lie, at least make it believable. Edit: sorry Deemania, that came across harsher than I meant - I have a special hatred for online disinformation, of which this reeks.

  45. What’s the point in getting heaps of the ball if you lack basic skills and turn it over. Then players are out of position and scoring on the transition is easy. Skills are king.

  46. I had started a very similar thread the other day. And then didn't hit send for whatever reason. I'm not okay right now. A million difficult things are all converging at once. So please ignore any bizarre posts or tetchy responses etc. I will be okay though. And I'm all ears for whoever wants to chat. Probably better at dealing with other peoples issues than my own. It at least provides a distraction. But I will also be open and frank in regards to myself. For better or worse, this is the community I'm probably most actively involved with. Best wishes to everyone, Ronnie.

  47. I thought Lockhart was excellent. So much cleaner for the most part, than the majority of his team mates. Kozzy is going to be a ripper and Viney stepped up and showed leadership. But Goodwin bangs on about system and you could see it up on the coaching board at one stage. "Protect the corridor", yet almost immediately after that restart, West Coast kicked to a practically unmarked West Coast player standing... in the corridor, who proceeded to then move it through... the corridor. Absolutely, the players have to shoulder much of the blame for not being able to perform their roles, but the coaching staff and the senior coach need to shoulder some of the blame too for not getting the players up. West Coast players had to deal with the strange circumstances too and they did. Weird day I know, but it was another embarrassing performance. It may not have been a 10 goal pounding, but West Coast were in cruise control most of the day and as others have said, this game mirrored most of our performances in 2019. Very disappointing.
