  1. Yes. There's a good chance we'll all be upset tonight.

  2. Although l am gutted today for the loss l cannot heap enough praise on two brothers Josh and Corey Wagner. Josh had 21 poss and 7 marks and played his role and Corey kicked two goals with 17 poss 3 marks Both had an influence in the game and are real handy pickups for our club. Well done boys.

  3. Slow start when we kicked badly and flat finish in the last where they kicked 4.3 to our 1.2 but on the whole we played well. Good to see the switch across half back and the tempo changes. We lost but a lot to like for the last few games of the season. Huge game by Clarrie and Fritsch not far behind.

  5. God i hate West Coast. Great to see Lever taking those intercept marks

  6. An Umpire who gives a free kick and 50 meters at the same time to the WCE and in front of goal which he kicks because Lever said something is giving a gimme goal. The Umpire in question uses the number 1. His name is Chris Donlon There are two O's in DONLON and two O's in MORON.

  7. Overall the game is what it was. Midfield were really solid. Viney good for a half. Oliver awesome. Gawn better than the commentators made out. Brayshaw did a solid job. Harmes good. Wagner brothers did ok on the wing all things considered. Backline started poorly then worked in to it. Frost always struggles with Darling who's too clever for him. Jetta and Lever better and have plenty more to go. Forward line was a complete rag tag bunch. Petty CHF - ok. Preuss FF - no thanks. Lewis as the 3rd tall stopper - worked amazingly for a half outside the goal kicking. Fritsch excellent, 4 goals and 2 posters. Hunt a great start, needed to go for goal in the last few minutes. There's a lot to work with. Add Tom McDonald, Melksham and even Weideman to that forward line, a bit of outside run and another classy user through the front half of the ground and we're on our way.

  8. The game was lost when that (censored) umpire gave a free against Max for trying to mark the ball. Terrible decision. Blind.

  9. I am probably on my own here but I still want Preuss in the side. He still provides good ruck support for Max and takes a good defender in the f50. He is not marking well which is obvious but he is getting his hands on the ball and bringing it to ground. Imo it’s only a matter of time before he starts clunking them.

  10. As an ANB knocker I thought he was better today, but still wouldn’t have him in my team. Those mistakes still kill our momentum.

  11. Exactly as I said pre-match. Was never going to be a flogging - in fact we had every chance to win. Wagners not awful.

  13. It was really disappointing for me to read this thread this morning. Not so much because of Casey’s loss which was half expected due to the sheer lack of AFL experience. I think Scott Selwood has more AFL games under his belt than the 10 Melbourne listed players who took part. My disappointment was due to the fact that a number of posts had to be deleted by our moderators as a result of the unnecessary derailing of the thread for the purpose of chest beating and preaching when it wasn’t warranted or relevant. People come here to read the thread mainly to find out how some of our younger prospects and our out of form or players returning from injury are faring. We want to know if our VFL partner can make the finals. Demonland is not about individual posters. It’s about our club and it’s players. A great deal of what I read was crap and was rightfully removed. We won’t tolerate it here so before anyone thinks of posting “I’m better than you” posts, think again because they won’t be visible for very long.

  14. Round 1 2020 can’t come quickly enough. A full preseason with a new head of fitness, a bottom 6 draw, an injury free list with a top 5 pick...

  15. With most of us expecting a loss, probably of an embarrassing size, I can't believe how negative some posters are when we almost pinched the game against a top team desperate to get into the top 2. BTW, the umpiring in the curtain raiser was far better than the that served up in our game. '

  16. How many Prelims have those teams made in the last 12 months? Anyone who puts this loss on Goodwin is just plain dumb. He coached well today, it was the execution of the players which lost us the game.

  17. We faded in the last due to fatigue but it wasn't all lack of fitness. A lot to do with interchanges. We had 9 players who played more than 88% game time; WCE had 3 so they had fresh legs. We had the same no of i/changes. The difference was Viney being out, managing Jetta's and Preuss's game time. Fritsch played 96% so makes his game even better. Had a poor tired kick in the last qtr but really held up well.

  18. Devastated with the loss regardless and l am sure the Umpires will think they did a good job. Confused all round as our players would be. We just get the bad end of the stick no doubt.Where do we get these morons from. PLEASE! don't tell me they have a hard job to do. I am gutted for watching these MORON'S umpire. I have had enough. Lose the game and not be good enough is ok but not through Moron decisions. Please spare me.

  19. The replay showed Lever probably letting go an expletive but to the ground in frustration, it wasn’t directed at the umpire, certainly not in his face but he gives a 50 penalty saying Lever knows what words he said. What now players have watch their words, nothing vulgar or it’s a 50? The umpiring started to even up in the second and third Quarters but again deteriorated in the last, after the 9 to 0 fiasco of the first Q. All their decisions were arbitrary all day for both sides but we got the rough end of the 50/50’s that is for sure.

  22. Fritsch up forward is a game changer. Begs belief why he was down back for so long. Wagner (Older) did well as well I thought, was hard at it in contests winning several. Brayshaw did well keeping Yeo quiet, maybe that was the trade off of him going back into the center. Petty worth continuing up forward, Lewis also. Poor games from Preuss, Lockhart and female umpire

  23. Full credit to Goody and the coaching staff. The move of both Lewis and Fritsch (from the first bounce) up forward has been a masterstroke and has contributed 5 of our 7 goals. Can't fault the endeavour, the effort and the willingness to fight for the shirt. The skills, especially under pressure, haven't always stood up but on the other hand we've played some ripping footy. Fingers crossed we can keep it up and cause an upset!

  24. Give Lewis a one year contract as a dangerous small forward. Better than anyone else we've got up forward despite the easy misses. ?

  26. A year’s a long time in footy. The last time we played in Alice , Alexander Neal Bullen kicked 3 goals and got the 3 Brownlow votes. Last week he almost made the distance from a 25 metre snap on goal.

  27. A steady rebuild under Roos was completely undone in less than a season. Those who agree that we’ll be ‘fine’ next season, apart from hope, what exactly is that being based on? We’re back to square one. I’m not ‘slashing my wrists’ (horrible phrase by the way), just a realist who’s seen it all before and have seen nothing to suggest we’ll turn it all around by early next season.

  28. Yay another wrist slitting thread. 9th or 18th is the same. We will be fine next year.

  30. Composure in front of goal telling. Terrible decision against Gawny in the last. They are really trying hard to reduce his influence. Preuss is unfortunately not up to it. He's an adequate centre square ruck for about 30 minutes. He gives nothing else. Oliver was great for three quarters, Fritsch very good, and despite Campbell Brown's observations, Gawn dominated Hickey. Harmes was solid, Brayshaw and Lewis played great team roles and May continues to impress. A few positives.

  38. Can Goodwin just go sit under the Tree of Knowledge already
    5 points
  39. Goodwin is the right man. Everything will be fine next year. Injuries are why we can’t kick goals or won’t practice our skills. Our game plan is perfect for finals. Never mind if we don’t make finals. Finishing 17th is understandable and acceptable. Nothing to see here.

  43. This is a seriously unfair post. Roos is a professional who reached the top of his field, let me tell you that nobody in that boat comes cheaply. Given the amount of value for the MFC in being competitive and for the AFL to have the MFC competitive, it’s totally ridiculous to then slam Roos for having a steep price tag. He was the best in the biz - for our situation at least. Sorry Daz, but that’s not greed or ego, it’s just how the world works. As for him having a smile when the crowd was chanting his name - FMD mate, he’s only human. Who wouldn’t feel pretty happy with themselves in that situation?

  45. In the Age today, a two page spread on Steven May: Melbourne defender's journey has at times been difficult since his move from the Gold Coast. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/melbourne-demons/steven-may-s-long-road-back-20190719-p528rx.html?btis worth a read, and gives some perspective to his journey. I really like that Goody challenged him, then stepped up and trained with him. That is some serious leadership from the coach that you dont see from outside. To winning the flag at the Dees, Steven!

  46. In the demon dreamtime legend says the young men of the melbourne mob had been cast out of (the afl) land of plenty (read finals contention). Some believe they were cursed by 666 the devilman’s number, others believed ‘big Gil’ a mysterious malevolent witch doctor had pointed the bone at the whole tribe. Spirits seemingly lost, the boys wandered the sparse desert lands, (the bottom four) where even the local bush mechanics could not get the sputtering reality bus going anywhere. The game plan was roadkill, traditional skills like kicking, marking and handball were disappearing fast and the injury toll continued to rise. Meanwhile on the horizon a flock of tip dwelling opportunistic seagulls (euphemistically known as eagles) hovered expecting some easy prey. Opportunity for payback now arises at the heart of nation contest. Be like the ariperenye beetles demons and leave these pretentious creatures headless in the red dust.
