  1. Like a fossilised turd that wouldn’t flush, it has finally broken apart and dissolved in the toilet bowl that is channel 9.

  3. Sam Newman embodied everything I dislike in a person. Arrogance, pseudo-intellectualism, vanity, intolerance and the list goes on. The whole idea that he was some kind of charming raconteur is a joke. He had a Pamela Anderson mural on his front wall ffs. He was the William F. Buckley to any given Monster-drinking dude with a pair of Oakleys glued to the back of his neck, and talking about him in the past tense is extremely enjoyable. The rest of the [censored] can [censored] off too. My wife isn’t a football lover. I’d try to convince her of it’s value from time to time, but she always had the perfect rebuttal, which was simply pointing in the direction of that godawful lowest-common-denominator horsesh&t and saying “I rest my case”.

  4. I would have much preferred a fully fit ANB over a player who’s carrying an injury.

  5. Agree with @praha, once it was without Marmalade it was toast.

  6. It was a good show for the first 10 years or so but it did well to go for as long as it did. Agree with others that Trevor Marmalade was a vital component. The Front Bar is terrific entertainment and 'Head' knows his place which allows him to be tolerated. Sam & Mick are a great pairing. Not really blokey either but often very funny. One show dies but the new show will live on.

  8. ANB had one of his better games last week and I am highly skeptical that Viney is fit. Strange decision.

  9. Club facilities for supporters are grossly overrated in the 21 century. What we need are the best conditions for our players/ FD and to attract potential players. The rest is nice to have but far from a necessarity.

  12. In previous years we could allow OMac some slack hoping that the tide would turn and we would begin to see improvement. This year there has been no improvement and the same failings are apparent to all. It is like watching a Jack Watts rerun. Hoping each week to see the potential unlocked but instead seeing the same failings. It all adds up to the same feeling of frustration merging at times with anger when one watches his hesitant bewildered game style. It really is hard to imagine what goes on in his head. All I know is that like Watts, you can't keep selecting a player with little or no intensity at the ball or the opponent.

  16. GCS have won 3 games by +3pts, +5pts and 2pts. They have lost their last 3 games by -73pts, -49pts and -23pts. Hardly an in-form side. Granted, our scoreboard performances have not been much better. But at last our coaches have tightened our game plan behind the ball and the mids and forwards are working better defensively. The team clicked last week and I reckon it will be better this week. We will win!

  18. Pedantic is an adjective. I did not say I was "a pedantic", I said "I am pedantic". I shall presume you misread my post. I am a pedant as is obvious. But thank you and welcome to the club, "Pedants R Us" .

  19. If Viney is replacing ANB I hope it's as a pressure forward. He's been a liability as a midfielder this season...

  20. I thought it was axed a decade ago. One of the worst shows to ever make it on to TV screens.

  21. We scrape a win over the Hawks and people are suddenly melting down that ANB is dropped lol Viney in for him is a no brainer. O Mac is lucky to be in the team,. Glad to see Keilty playing, showed some promising flashes last week.

  22. Don't get ANB being dropped after a good game, and his work off the ball is huge, that running power is a weapon even if the skills are occasionally unreliable.

  23. Most of you want Lewis out but you neglect to nominate his replacement ... why is that? Oscar is on the outer here as well. May & Lever aren't available and most want Frost gone. Hibberd was also in the gun until last week and Jetta is injured. And the Wagners aren't stars either. Is there anyone else? Hore shows a bit but he's played a handful of games. So that leaves us with Salem and not much else ... yet we need 6 or 7 backmen as a general rule. As previously stated, get rid of Lewis and we're worse off. He stays and he plays. Our backline hasn't actually been the problem this season as they've been under siege for the most part ... a midfield with disposal and decision making issues along with a dysfunctional forward line is where our problems lie. Rule of thumb ... fish rots at the head. Our gameplan is highly questionable as well. So blaming the A-end of a problem (backmen under seige) is unintelligent. The game starts out of the middle in terms of winning the ball and then using the ball properly with a properly functioning forward line ... if that system doesn't work the backmen are in for a hell of a time. It isn't rocket science. Footy is a team game where proper analysis should always be focused on all the working parts ... it is never 1 players fault if the whole team is underperforming. It is in fact everyone's fault ... even the best performed player needs to put his hand up as being part of the problem. When finger pointing is the norm, disaster is around the corner. And we've all seen that happen.

  24. I must be on the wrong site- people complaining about ANB being dropped? What happened to many posters saying he should not play again, the coach has no idea for picking him etc. one decent game changes your opinion?

  26. Whatever options are available, stop gap type ones cannot be considered. If you want to see what a 50 year plan for facilities looks like, then have a look at Essendons at Tullamarine. 2 ovals one the size of the MCG, the other the size of Docklands. An indoor facility the size of 4 basketball courts and an administration headquarters. This is the future of what is needed, and it is why Hawthorn is moving. Waverly is not big enough for the future. SO to be serious about the future, a facility needs 10 + acres of space....as has been pointed out by others, that is not available within 10km of the city. I hope that we can secure some sort of government assistance, but a serious amount as well. To get to AAMI, I think we got $2M while RIchmond got $12M, the Dogs gifted land and facilities of $16M. Now Carlton, Richmond, Geelong, St.Kilda are all getting huge handouts. Why not us?

  30. For sure. He still looks like he has massive improvement left in him as well. Needs confidence that the position is his I reckon. He's not dumb, I'm sure he can see the OMac situation as well as we can.

  33. This is a far fetched scenario. I'm quite certain the medico's have cleared him, and Goody is simply saying that even though he has been cleared, that the decision ultimately rests with Jack. Nothing else to see here.

  36. Yes, when Trevor Marmalade left, the show changed direction. Talking about football decreased, the journalists began to gain profile and all those annoying political stories and Sam became the central focus. I have rarely watched it since.

  39. It’s called sportshost. We’re already doing it. I have been part of it via our central Victorian supporters group. It was advertised during the Saints game. Lots of new arrivals from overseas being hosted at demons games by rusted in supporters. I did it last year with a group of Indian guys. They loved it - and hopefully now Demob supporters.

  40. As I understand coach it is in the Tullamarine flight restricted area. However there is no way the establishment that is the MFC could stomach a facility in the northern surburbs so neither of us will have to worry about a site.

  41. Yeah DJ ... anyone would think that we've got great depth. We've won 2 games against 2 slow teams and lost 5 games in poor fashion. Lewis is the least of our problems as he isn't exactly our future ... I am way more concerned about our myriad of under performing players who should be part of our future. But lets just blame the senior statesman as if its all his fault. Dumb, stupid analysis 101. Drop Lewis and we are no better off and probably worse off as we'd have a team with even less experience with less leadership. We actually need a few more wiser heads in the team and have had to recruit those types of players into the club in recent years after the club went on a fruitless youth campaign for nearly a decade (based on an unhealthy reliance on draft pick numbers) I'm not sure there's a great deal of practical experience with those not who can't recognise the above ... more so Alpha males who think they know it all but in reality know SFA. And they repeat themselves over and over again like bloody parrots (coupled with their misplaced anger and hate)

  43. Wagner was petty good against the Hawks. He’s actually been very good I feel since coming back in. AnB is about right I feel. Jay Lockhart is probably keeping him out rather than Viney.

  44. So we bring Viney back in (who we know is prone to rushing his recall to the seniors) for a bloke who laid tonnes of tackles and applied heaps of pressure last week. Righteo ?

  47. Anyone else a little concerned Goodwin says they’re leaving the decision on playing Viney ‘completely up to him’? Jack’s pretty much admitted he’s rushed himself back before and we know what happened then. Surely the medical staff should be involved in this decision, but hey, that’s probably for the Shaun Smith thread...

  48. I don't know...it's easy to get this funding. Just say you're setting up some kind of gender equality facility and bingo... On a more serious note...we were the leaders in womens football, had the foresight to get the whole thing going and now we seem to be languishing at the bottom of the pack when the money comes. I just hope Pert has something he's holding back on at the moment.
