  1. Decided to have a looksy at how Trenners is doing in the SANFL. Leading the league for disposals and DT points. 2nd in the league for clearances. 3rd for inside 50s. 4th for tackles. He’s killing it. If he doesn’t get named tonight with all of Port’s outs including some of their inside brigade in Wines and the like, it’s hard to imagine it happening. Hopefully another call up isn’t far away. He’s doing everything possible to get one.

  2. Very very glad Keilty retained his spot, hopefully he can get onto the end of a couple of decent kicks this week and showcase his true strength as a Forward.

  4. I know he is tall but the highest point is usually rather high. I think you and others mean at his maximum reach. I know I am pedantic but surely we could use the language correctly and not repeat imported idioms like "from the get go" - "early doors" - "fat side"..............

  5. 5 score involvements and 3 of those 8 tackles were inside 50. One of our best pressure / tacklers inside 50 also in general. Can only think the low effective disposals went against but he was super clean running above AFL average at 75% DE for his 9 effectives and a cheeky snap goal front & square. Statistically his best game for the year running at 19.5% above his 2018 average output. He only had 4 matches last season where he scored better and i had him ranked 6th in weighted composites vs the rest of the team last week. Statistically our best team result for the year also. Personally could not fault his game myself. Extremely stiff. Hope it doesn't throw our inside/outside balance out of wack which IMHO nibbler was a key part of correcting substantially last week.

  6. Let me make this claim based on no inside information... I predict that Collingwood will relocate their training facilities to Victoria Park and we will take over theirs at Olympic Park. Collingwood will choose to move because of a multi-million dollar upgrade supported by Federal and/or State Governments. Our new facilities will also be upgraded as part of the deal. While the fingerprints of Gary Pert will be found all over the plans, it will be Eddie McGuire who will bask in the glory of taking Collingwood "home".

  7. I must be on the wrong site- people complaining about ANB being dropped? What happened to many posters saying he should not play again, the coach has no idea for picking him etc. one decent game changes your opinion?

  8. Note to self: desist from predicting players won't be dropped.

  10. The issue of true permanent home is, for me, the biggest impediment to a successful future the club faces. Bloody hard to sell our club as a destination for (particularly) free agents when we train on a public park that is not even the correct proportions for footy, and we share the Gym and other facilities with other sports. Its no wonder MFC have trouble getting players to come here for less than top dollar, because we are not only mediocre on the field but are essentially homeless. If the club somehow manages to get us a home in/near the center of Melbourne I will celebrate like we have just won a premiership, because it might just be a big factor in our next one.

  11. That would be a St Kilda to Seaford style failure. It would further separate the Footy department from the admin, annoy the players with a 45-60 minute drive twice a day and leave them stranded in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do. Moving there would only work out if the facilities were as good as or better than any others in the league. The Hawks are about to put 100 million in to Dingley and that’s 20 minutes less drive.

  12. I went on the Daniher drive last year to help raise money for motor neurone disease. i’m also mates with one of the lead scientists fighting the beast. Daniher almost certainly won’t save himself from this insidious disease but his actions will save millions of others. This could be last Big Freeze with Daniher in attendance. Daniher is Australian of the year for mine. And Pom Pom on the beanie.

  13. Jesus.. i watched the replay on Sunday and ANB didn't do anything major to be dropped. And thats saying something coming from me.... Viney of course the [censored] would have said he's right to go when he's probably only 70%.. selfish as usual from Jack.

  14. We are about 8K ahead of where we were last year at the same time: Last year we only added about 250-300 members a week to the end of June, so we cannot expect much more than that to happen. This would give us about 53-54K at season end. A fabulous start to the 70k target, but how much better would it have been with early season wins. Still 8k is nearly a 20% increase from last year....not too many clubs would have done this!

  16. Queens birthday Victoria is an annual sickie for me in WA. I don’t think my boss has noticed this theme as yet. Usually throw a lamb shoulder in the oven but looking like a pork belly this year. Hope the Dee’s can draw enough inspiration from the great man to get a win and repay it while he’s still about. Must be one of the longest individual battles with MND going around the Rev is chalking up.

  17. So we bring Viney back in (who we know is prone to rushing his recall to the seniors) for a bloke who laid tonnes of tackles and applied heaps of pressure last week. Righteo ?

  19. Epic! We’re a Loyal resilient lot aren’t we , albeit a bit weather beaten and angry. 50 k Is a big achievement. . Hoping this is just the start of big things on the field and off it. A flag, a new home base and up into the 60-70 k plus members. A win on the weekend would also keep a hint of hope for this season . if we can keep that window open , get players bk and start knocking over some big teams in then maybe 53-5 k this year?

  20. I have no idea od. For me this is one of the most depressing threads on this board as every Vic club is getting tens of millions for their existing grounds and we are homeless. I usually don't read this thread but was lured back by the orange 'Hot!' flag - thought something good may have happened for us. Alas not, just another club getting more millions.

  21. Back then SPC MFC members only got to vote for part of the total number of board members ( cloudy memory but I think it was 30% but it was less than a majority ) the rest where nominated by the MCC. So the blame squarely rests with the MCC.

  22. Agree. I've been looking at his stats. he is averaging around 40 touches and often getting 2 goals per game! surely he gets a look in.

  23. I'm also less concerned given my recollection that the reason he missed against Hawthorn was the hit he took to his shoulder against Richmond, not his reoccurring foot issues. I'm hoping that Viney is sufficiently fit, plays and plays well. Whether we are a realistic chance to play finals or not, we need to start stringing some confidence and form together to build beleif back up within the side and a fit Jack Viney helps that. We are a much better side than we have been playing like for most of this season.

  24. I'm sure he is capable of learning from his mistakes. Just cause he brought himself back underdone last time doesn't mean it will certainly happen again. In the end, it is him who knows his body best, and you could even say that the last incident has made him even more acutely aware of his body, injuries and recovery timelines. It's still a strange comment though. I think it's probably being taken a face value a bit too much and I doubt the medicos have no say in it. Maybe the medico's have given him the all clear and it's Jack who is wondering whether he is ready or not?

  25. Anyone else a little concerned Goodwin says they’re leaving the decision on playing Viney ‘completely up to him’? Jack’s pretty much admitted he’s rushed himself back before and we know what happened then. Surely the medical staff should be involved in this decision, but hey, that’s probably for the Shaun Smith thread...

  27. Did Misson, the Doctor or the Coach send Joel back onto the ground? That is the question and the issue. If the Doctor said don’t and he was overruled, then it is that person we should be discussing.

  28. So long as Lewis stays match fit I reckon he's got 4 or 5 good games in him (this season) Which would be a better output than the player who might take his place. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong but those who have previously been A graders nearly always go to that level again (periodically) I would give serious thought to giving Lewis a few more games off completely - 1 in 4 (to rest the bones) Our depth is poor so he will keep getting picked anyway. Anyway, he's not the problem anyway ... nearly the whole list has underperformed to a large degree this season so pointing the finger at 1 player is unfair. I could name at least a dozen players who need a rocket.

  31. Total cynical view DJ but the information seemed to come out just before the AGM last year. There was little comment at the AGM because " there was still negotiations going on" . Fixed for another year! As I have said elsewhere the desire to be close to the G is a very very large impediment.

  32. Re Vic Park my understanding is that Yarra council have no interest in using Vic Park for anything other than local use. And why would the Pies want to go back there they have effectively replaced us in the central Melbourne area. They have a fabulous area now in the old Olympic area and more Government money coming. Every time I go by there I mentally weep. The MFC should be in there however we blew it so now we take the left overs what they are in the future who knows, but we need to do something very soon.

  36. It would be nice to see in our lifetime OD. In the 48 years ive been following/supporting i've never seen or heard even a mention from any official at the MFC that the concept has even been discussed. D'land may well be the only forum it has ever been mentioned as a concept. To quote your earlier post... there's always next year i guess.

  38. A problem with Jack's game time being managed in many games this year is that other players stay out longer than they should. Last week we played the game out to the last second and won it because we were fit enough and strong enough to see it out. I wonder if the key players in the last 30 seconds could have done it if they had played an extra 5 minutes each to compensate for Jack being on the bench (had he played) for 25-35% of the game? A rhetorical question I know. If he plays this week I hope he is on the park for about 80% game time otherwise it just hurts the rest of the team. He just can't be selfish. We have won many games without him. Team first, co-captain!

  40. Jack has a poor record of judging when fit to play. By his own admission he returned early from his foot injury in 2017 and has had long periods on the sidelines and/or managed game time since. His game time was managed in games early in the season. Ditto vs Hawks - he played about 2 of the first 3 qtrs (prior to the shoulder injury). This suggests something other than the shoulder injury is causing the managed game times. Have someone else make the decision! Agree. All JV really know is that he loves to play footy. Some serious professional guidance is required.

  42. I think Viney should have another week off. He has rushed it too many times before and a 3/4 fit Jack has performed badly in the past. Just my opinion. No change or Preuss for Kielty if they decide to bring in the big boy

  43. The one thing this article has done is clarify my understanding around May returning unfit. May's own words: “I came back in what I usually do if not a bit better,” May told Fox Sports News’ AFL Tonight. “And I got to the Dees and their standards were a lot shorter: everyone had to be under certain skinfolds and time trials had to be elite. “After that first time-trial and after the first couple of sessions I went: ‘Wow, these guys are flying, I need to get up to speed here". “I went and saw the dietitian, saw the strength and conditioning coach, saw the coaches and put in a plan and executed that and got myself in good condition. “That was my first pre-season (at Melbourne) that can’t happen again and certainly won’t because I’ve educated myself and the club has educated me on what’s required at the Demons" Not sure what the hanging offence is here on May's behalf? The club obviously didn't make it clear what shape he needed to be in when he started his new job. He arrived, found out the standards, and rectified the short-coming.

  45. Hopefully Keilty gets another week. Didn't receive much of the footy whilst playing forward against the Hawks but that was just the flow of the game, he did a good job of crashing the pack and in the ruck and when he did receive the ball he didn't make any mistakes. I feel he can develop into a useful forward target, has a great pair of dukes.

  46. I watched the game again and I was wrong about Declan Keilty. It wasnt a good game and I noticed him more because he is new and caught my eye. There were a few passages where he jogged around the contest which was mainly torrid. Anyway on 2nd glance, it wasnt very impressive. His gather and kick out of the center was good but that was nearly it.
