  1. Jay Lockhart has filled our last list spot as a rookie. "The AFL introduced a Supplementary Selection Period for the first time this year. This allowed teams to add players to their rookie list up until todays date,” General Manager of Football Operations Josh Mahoney told Melbourne Media. “By passing on our last pick in the rookie draft we had a spot available and today we have added Jay Lockhart to our rookie list for this season.” The 23-year-old is Tasmanian-born but made the move to Victoria in 2018 in a bid to chase his AFL dream." https://m.melbournefc.com.au/news/2019-03-15/melbourne-secures-jay-lockhart-as-rookie

  2. Yesssss boys awesome stuff. I said during the draft period I was really surprised Jay didn’t get picked up as a rookie. Some of the games he played for Casey last season were unreal. Handy pick up for sure and I’m super glad he gets a run at the big time.

  5. No Clint, but he is #1 in the club for pressure acts. So I expect he signed up 1,500 members in a half hour burst.

  6. Im a big fan. A small but combative back flanker with legit run and kicking ability. Absolutly what we need. Was excellent at Casey on a back flank and not too bad as a mid who rested forward when needed in the second half of last year. Potentially could replace Lewis or free up Salem

  7. Am I the only one who doesn't really like this? I mean, it's objectively a great photo…but we don't deserve to see Gawny hold it until he wins it. I mean, it's like taking a photo of yourself sitting inside someone else's sweet car. Sure it's cool…but it's not yours. Yet.

  8. I thought Keilty showed enough to be an ok emergency third ruckman if it got to that point - The question is would any of the state league ruckman make any sort of difference if we had a ruck injury crisis. The player most thought was the best mature age ruckman in the draft Darcy Fort has looked horrible for Geelong.

  10. I thought Keilty showed enough in JLT to warrant his inclusion on the backup ruck list. Much rather him line up than Bradke at this stage.

  11. I was hoping we would draft him. I thought he had a touch of class from the Casey games that I saw. Bit like that skinny bloke we picked up a year earlier who is now close to my favourite Demon (especially forward of centre when he has ball in hand and time to spot up one of our forwards!).

  12. I want more Tasmanians. This guy looks pretty tough to me. Hopefully he's a cross between Russell Robertson, Darrell Baldock and Ian Stewart ( without the cross dressing )

  13. As I recall, he plays small defender (rebound/runner) , not so much a Nev 'lockdown' defender type. Could see him being cover for Lewis, and he could also put pressure on Hunt. In a couple of games he played further up the ground, including in attack where he got a few goals. Seemed good over the ball, and looked to have a good (accurate) passing kick in traffic. More workmanlike than mercurial from what I saw, but a really solid small footballer. Well worth the pick up. Think we have ruck covered with Max/Preuss/Keilty (Bradtke too green), and we seemed to lack quality in the flank / run and distribute role, and unless Hunt finds his best headband, could be an inspired pickup.

  14. Theory 1 Jones was swimming at Cheviot beach and was captured by the Russians in a submarine off Portsea back beach. He is currently on his way to Vladivostok for interrogation. Viney was the one behind the grassy knoll and the Americans have taken him in for questioning. Theory 2 There was a bloodless coup and Maxi, as the tallest player, has deposed Viney and Jones and taken on the captaincy by himself.

  15. If Aaron Nietschke goes to LTI we would have another space? Mid season draft may be a possibility to get a ruckman if required.

  16. We deemed it better than Viney and Jones train rather than attend. Given their limited preparations, I think the club has done the right thing. Max will kill it there as well, he's loved and respected by all.

  17. Why? We have Preuss and another ruck would take minutes off Bradtke

  18. I love that we are giving the Casey guys a chance but another ruckman would have been nice.

  19. While nothing was as good as Hogan's heroes, especially when someone fails at the speccie and lands on their head.....I witnessed a really intriguing event while at the local ice hockey game in Revelstoke, Canada. As a fund raiser during the 1/3 time break while they re-ice the rink they drive a golf cart around the ice. On top of the golf cart is a large bucket. Before and during the game you can buy 3 frisbees for $5 , each marked with a number that is assigned to you. If you can get your frisbee into the bucket you get 1/2 of the nights takings from frisbee sales. It was amazing to see thousands of frisbees hurled into the arena, with a couple of successes to share the prize pool. Can you imagine the same at the MCG? Might be a little harder to clean up than the 1/2 dozen kids with huge brooms at the ice-rink were able to do...... but a real earner for that local club.....

  21. Casey is a bit out of scooter range, but said hello to Mitch Hannan who was running laps at Goschs when I went past on my normal scooter ride every morning I'm not working Garlett, Preuss, Lever and Tim Smith were also out there, this was about 10ish

  23. Jay has plenty of talent and is only a 24 yo . Playing for Casey last season he strung a number of games together and produced his best form by becoming a ball magnet with 30 plus possessions in games and ended up playing a number of games for Dees. IMO he handled himself well and deserved his promotion. I hope that he does receive the 2 year extension where it will give Jay confidence .He deserves it.

  26. Just sickening chook. Coincidentally, on the day that our Club announced that it is partnering with the Victorian Department of Education and Training and the Victorian Aboriginal Education Association to take a stand against racist bullying.

  27. Exactly, and while I don't know the list situation at Casey, perhaps with Lockhart now a Melbourne rookie, it leaves space for them to pick up a "project" ruckman.....who was that one from Vermont who played in the game last week? Perhaps KC or Drunkn can fill us in?

  28. The reasoning for his selection is sound. Mahoney has said that they wanted to add someone who knew the coaches, knew the structure, knew the expectations and so forth, and that makes sense to me. Yeah, I can see the point of possibly selecting another ruckman, but clearly the club know what it is doing.

  31. I think we may have drafted some sort of Benjamin Button. According to Knightmare (see above) on 14 June 2017 he was 183 cm tall. According to Mad As Hell on 2 October 2018 (in the Jay Lockhart thread started last year), he's 177 cm. If he keeps shrinking at this speed he'll change sports and become a jockey before the Spring Racing Carnival. Some confirmed height and weight numbers would be appreciated.

  33. If there was a closed session out at Casey today perhaps it was more important to get run into the legs of Jones and Viney than with Max. Or maybe the AFL wanted the more recognisable face of Max Gawn to be front and center for the paps.

  34. Rookie List possible Depending upon how last half of year goes. Hope he can get through as I really feel he has improved since mid-season 2018. Deserves a break of luck.

  36. That's my only issue with the suspension. IMo I thought when it happened he was in trouble and probably deserved a week for stupidity, but My years of watching footy tell me something similar or even slightly worse later in the year gets reviewed over and over to find how a fine is justified.

  41. Did you manage to get the Gary Pert interview this morning @Demonland ? It was very inspiring and he talked mainly about Melbourne lacking a home and being the only club in the AFL with that issue. He said it was one of his main focuses. He had spoken to all the relevant parties inc City of Yarra and the MCG. He went on to say that Melbournes home was traditionally the MCG and how we would train 3 nights a week there. He said the offices there were all over the place and there was no central focus point where the supporters could meet. If he could solve that one it would be amazing. The more i hear this guy the more i like him.

  42. Also listened to Christian Salem on SEN and it was a pretty vanilla interview but he did single out Fritsch as having a great preseason- if he goes to another level it will be fantastic for our season. Also there were great raps on KK - can’t wait for him to get on the park.

  44. This article suggests a training session Friday, I’m assuming tomorrow. “Co-captain Nathan Jones says restrictions on runners have forced players to adapt “That will as good as be confirmed if they successfully negotiate "a huge training session" on Friday designed to see who is ready to go for the season proper.” The above is about Jones, Viney and Melksham.
