  2. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-08-31/the-most-overrated-award-in-the-world-blight Apparently players voting on each other is stupid because "half of them don't watch the games". This is my favourite bit: "Blokes in the media ... would know who played better than most players in the whole comp and I think the media awards are actually higher, they know more about the players who play well." Yeah ok. BT can't tell the difference between Jetta, JKH and Garlett, but media people know better than players. Sure Blighty, sure.

  3. A terrific season. Still a kid and huge upside. A beautiful (and much underrated) kick as evidenced by the sublime kick to lewis that set up our first goal and the later one to maxy. He is very calm and makes excellent decisions with his disposals. The coach and team mates have complete trust in him. Rarely beaten one on one and has some big scalps this year. He is already strong but but will get much stronger, fill out and possibly still get a touch taller over the next three years. He is already one of the fittest players at the club and will only get fitter. Very durable which speaks to a fella who does everything right to prepare and recover. His key weakness is his pace and really is unlikely to get much quicker. So that will remain an issue but not a deal breaker, particularly with a fit and firing Lever playing alongside him. Like most big fellas won't hit his peak until he is 25, by which time he will have close to 100 games (and a handful of finals) under his belt. As i noted at the beginning of the season will be a 200 plus game player for the dees and a mainstay of our defence for the next decade.

  4. I love the fact he got 100 games at the Dees, not for father son, but for the fact his name will be on the locker forever. He deserves that.

  5. I wouldn’t say no if he wants to come - it’s looking very likely at this stage that we won’t have a ruck on the list other than Max and whatever kid we might draft. It’s just the question of why the f he would want to come that has me stumped.

  6. We limped over the line that year and were in some terrible form come September. That was an issue we had in 04, 05 and 06; we were never peaking at the right time of year. This year however...

  8. OMac is a good mark and a very good kick. Still building strength and not the quickest, but continues to improve, and hasn’t been beaten very often this year. Only 22, on his way to developing into a very strong full back. 2018 has been a year of great progress for OMac. Probably one of the most enjoyable facets of watching the Demons has been across the board improvement of our 20-23yo players: Brayshaw Harmes OMac ANB JSmith Oliver Petracca Hogan Weideman Stretch Salem Lever While we’ve been very good this year, give them all another pre season, extra 20 plus games and will hit next years finals as an awesome machine! Fingers crossed for the finals, our best is very very good, and our composure is definitely improving!

  10. It's a myth that it's the bottom 6 who matter in finals, it's the top 6 that have to be capable and fire in big finals. Here's a list of the "best" from Wikipedia for the last 10 GFs with the Norm Smith Medallist highlighted. The lists are dominated by the best 6 players at each winning club. 2017: Martin (NSM), Rance, Houli, Astbury, Prestia, Edwards, Graham, Grimes 2016: Johannisen (NSM), Picken, T. Boyd, Macrae, M. Boyd, Dahlhaus 2015: Rioli (NSM), Mitchell, Smith, Hodge, Gunston, Burgoyne, Frawley 2014: Hodge (NSM), Lewis, Mitchell, Roughead, Hill, Lake, Langford, Burgoyne 2013: Lake (NSM), Gunston, Lewis, Rioli, Hodge, Birchall 2012: Hannebery, O'Keefe (NSM), Kennedy, McVeigh, Jetta, Goodes 2011: Bartel (NSM), Selwood, Hawkins, Ling, Johnson, Chapman, Ottens, Varcoe 2010: Ball, N. Brown, Jolly, Pendlebury (NSM), Shaw, Sidebottom, D. Thomas, Wellingham 2009: Chapman (NSM), Rooke, Milburn, Taylor, Selwood, Ablett, Corey, Bartel, Ling, Scarlett 2008: Hodge (NSM), Brown, Ellis, Sewell, Crawford, Dew, Rioli, Osborne, Williams The reason MFC has failed to win flags in our competitive years in the 80s, 90s and 2000s was because our top 6 was not elte. That's different now - our top 6 is developing to be as good as anyone's and that's why we're a real threat.

  11. The joy of footy to a child. This is why those of us who can't make it to the game shared our barcodes. Brings a tear to my eye watching this and takes me back

  14. Is Oscar underrated? At 22 years of age he held down full back in 14 win team, and had the increased pressure of his gun key defender partner Jake Lever going down for the season. They had just started to click and suddenly we bring in the very inexperienced Joel Smith to cover Levers role before the emergence of Frosty. Your thoughts on O Mac and how he is tracking and how good he will be in 2019 and beyond.

  16. Weideman before Fritsch??? No way is Fritsch in our bottom 6. Our bottom 6 are: Jay Kennedy-harris, Weideman, Omac, Tyson, Spargo and Vandeberg.

  17. We got nearly 55k in round one. I think you're underestimating the context. It's been 12 years since we've been seen in September and Geelong supporters turn up for finals. My prediction is 85k and I'm hoping it's closer to 90k.

  19. Scene: it's September (or near as dammit). Instead of studying the likely early draft picks, you are getting fired up about finals tickets. You are studying the AA team, alternately gloating, and groaning that MORE Demons were not recognized. You are studying the 22under22, gloating/groaning. You are wondering if Max will finish 1st or 2nd in the Brownlow. You are feeling remarkably at peace with the world. Now the question, true or false: ARE YOU DREAMING?

  20. Why would he want to come and play second fiddle to the AA ruckman? You’d think we would be the last place a ruckman desperate to establish himself would choose.

  21. Watched Storm tonight... Got beaten but rested a few in the lead up to finals. With Billy retiring at the end of the season I hope they can send him out with a much deserved premiership. Drinkwater came into to replace Billy tonight & it was a promising debut. They keep producing players. Sorry, sidetracked. Sport is a serious business, there's no skin in the game then there's no game. The legends game doesn't interest me in the slightest...

  22. Noticed Garry Lyon has no votes, that’s fine and understandable. However I think media and obvious history aside he would be right in the mix. Sorry if this steps on toes but as a player the guy was everything that this club epitomises and one of the greatest skippers we ever had. Happy to take heat over this, go for it.

  23. 2018 Sam Frost This year at the 'G we are: 1-5 with Sam Frost out of the side 4-1 with Sam Frost in the side. For the way we play, Sam Frost is a pivotal player for us at the MCG…and no one would put him in our best players, that's for sure.

  24. I finally got a chance to add these up, however while doing this I decided to change the scoring system so it now is: Three points if you correctly guess a top eight team's position One point if you correctly guess a team outside the top eight's position Two points if you correctly guess a team finishing in the top eight but you don't get their correct position Feel free to check your own scores as I may have miscounted some. 27. Ah that's the day Bomber Thompson joked about Jeff White getting his head in the way of Steven Kings boot after he had his faced caved in... fair to say from that moment onwards Bomber was one of the stupidest and least likeable people involved with footy. His stupidity and poor attitude to life has since been confirmed by a myriad of personal problems... what a deadset turd of a human he is. This was a poor day for the club. Barely gave a yelp. Hopefully next week is a far better result!

  28. This is not directed at you Febes, as you only posted the article which is relevant to the topic, but that's rubbish from Jay Clark. It's based on a hunch he has, and that Freo might enquire. Bloody brilliant, Jay. Melbourne might enquire about Buddy, but where does that get you? There are no quotes, no clear links, nothing. Just Jay Clark trying to get stay relevant and failing miserably.

  31. To Demonland Thanks to all those who enquired. I have been able to sell the spare ticket I had to the game next week. I appreciated the responses. And to @faultydet, I wasn't overly "concerned about an $82 ticket" in financial terms, I just wanted, given all the Ticketek stuff ups this week, to make sure the ticket didn't go to waste and a Melbourne fan was deprived of the chance to get a good seat to see the Team. That was my main concern. best wishes bill

  33. Good get for the Saints. In reading the comments above, I don't think we really need Ratten. With Goodwin and the team getting us to 5th and with the footy we have been playing I think we are headed in the right direction. No need to change what has, to this point, been a very good combination.

  39. I don't warm to imports like I do "our own" but Bernie for some reason is so different. He came to us when we were on our knees in Roos first year and he gave his all. He won a B&F and was skilled and competitive on the field. He also has a wonderful generosity of spirit I think and a genuine love of life and fun. In the end he seems to have a wonderful sense of perspective in his life. It's time I know but I'll be very sad to see him go and wish him well in whatever he does from here on in. Many thanks Bernie, I think your football skill may have been underestimated but not your character. Cheers and good luck.

  40. I think he was shattered at first when he got wind of the deal to offload him by the Crows five seasons ago, but he quickly got over his disappointment at moving states (hanging out with a social livewire in Wattsy helped) and turned the move into a positive that has extended to his new real estate career. He also has been humble enough to still cop demotion to the backline and then demotion from the team and kept smiling through it all. Rapt that he got to play 100 games for us and also won a best-and-fairest. Let's hope we make it to the prelim so that he can go out with a flag for Casey. Good with media, good with fans and a good bloke.
