  3. Clearing out the family home last weekend following the death of my father, I stumbled upon an original Weg poster from 1955, which was the year that kicked off our golden era. I hope that this was a premonition of our second golden era!

  4. Most prestigious individual award in footy in my opinion. No one knows better about who influences the game more than the coaches. Congrats Max well deserved

  5. We have 3 in the AA 40. Oliver, Gawn and Gaff.

  6. The club really should've sent out a pamphlet to all members weeks ago, explaining how to purchase finals tickets...

  7. How can you not see the difference? West Coast and Adelaide had local teams and a well established competition in their relevant states. They immediately picked up a lot of support. West Coast is the richest and one of the best supported clubs in the AFL. Adelaide not far behind. There is no state interest in football in either NSW or QLD. FFS both of these states have recently had serious success, QLD had one of the greatest team in history and yet still nobody cared. The solution to add yet another team that nobody cared about in those states, was purely about TV money for the AFL. You can't tell me that if they established a team in Tassie, it wouldn't have more supporters than both GC and GWS combined in the first season.

  8. Just a quick shout out to Tommy Mac, who came 6th in the Coleman despite missing the first few games. Also, shout out to Jesse who finished eighth.

  9. Their energy in the 3rd and 4th quarter was breathtaking, Gawn twice chased a man hard and while he didn’t catch him made damn sure it wasn’t an unpressured kicked. Today was a coming of age for us, they played like a team that belongs deep in September.

  11. Jesus you really are a happy contented soul aern’t you. The MFC just made the finals for the first time in 12 years, and are being mentored on and off field by a 4 time Premiership Winner. And you cannot wait for him to fail... Whatever happens in the next 4-5 weeks, the recruitment of Jordan Lewis has been a superb decision. You cannot buy his experience online or in a shop

  12. I'd be truly amazed if Taylor, TViney and Mahoney weren't doing due diligence and assessing the value of most players on our list and considering what deals might get done in trade week, likely or unlikely. IMO only Gawn and Oliver are untouchable, possibly Jack Viney too. Thankfully, the FD isn't run by the emotional outragists like yourself who shout down reasonable discussion. Stick with the riddles mate, the comedy festival awaits.

  13. What an incredible win. Clearly the best win under Goodwin. We were missing just as many important players as GWS and we creamed them. Some of our ball movement was champagne. The passage that lead to ANB's goal was simply awesome. Gawn is getting better every week. He played a real leaders game. Those two chases and his ability to drop back and take important defensive (eg on the quarter time siren) was terrific. Upon reflection, I find this game exciting because I think even though we played patches of brilliant footy, there's still a lot more we can do. But for the majority of the match we applied great frontal pressure and our press was working on the bigger ground, which was nice to see. Brayshaw loves playing on the wide expanses of the MCG. He really gets into space well. Weideman finally put together a full good game of AFL. Really contributed. I reckon we've clicked. It's a bit like Richmond last year. Even if we fall over in the finals, 2019 is looking really exciting. Add a Gaff and we become scary.

  17. tmac should have made squad of 40. still played 17 games and his goal average was about the same as riewoldts ended up with 48 goals and tons of score assists and involvements demons weren't the highest point scoring club in the comp for nothing and deserved a fwd in the squad

  21. Unless Hogan asks to go, he won’t be traded. You can blow on about professional club and every player has a price and improve the list and blah blah blah, but at the end if the day, no club willingly parts with a player of his calibre.

  22. I want to draw attention to Oscar Mac's first kick, the one that ended up in our opening goal. Precise, attacking, audacious, skimming just over a giant and into Jordan Lewis's hands. Deserves accolades.

  24. Why ? If I was picking 40 I wouldn't include him. He was better last year.

  26. I found it breathtaking & unbelievably arrogant ...not to mention disrespectful to even contemplate trading Hogan. We have had an amazing year but haven’t won a final & are still a long way off being a “complete” team. There are teams in the 8 & outside of the 8 who for whatever reasons haven’t been unable to field close to their best 22 & next year a whole lot of new challengers will appear. To contemplate trading a 23yr old “ unbelievable” talent who has had to deal with situations that a lot of us will hopefully never have to ...is “mind boggling”. Let’s just settle down ....follow our team & embrace who is lucky enough to make the final 22. Don’t forget there are a lot o& warriors who have got us here & leave off arrogantly suggesting we trade off stars because we have actuall6 made finals.

  27. Lewis surprised onfield - particularly in the first quarter with clearances, run and carry, expert delivery to forwards; he looked so natural in that rare role (for him, with the Dees) setting up the destruction of the GWS run and carry through midfield and outside space. A coach of the near future for the Dees, showing the way as best he could at this stage of his season. He set the tone without doubt. Keep it up, Jordan, it was terrific.

  28. Well last night my humble pie tasted very good of course it was helped by washing it down with a few single malts. Yesterday the Weid showed his is more than an average VFL player. Good game Sam and may you have a few more before 2018 draws to a close. And for Saty , Spargo earned his spot at the highest level. However his inability to kick much beyond 35 meters worries me.

  29. We’re gonna need the break. 65 to 84 interchanges with Tyson and Kent out. That itself is so telling how hard the boys worked against a team that is considered fast! Just amazing.

  30. The AFL chose the MFC elimination final for Friday night football. They chose the brand that plays the most exciting football for their premier AFL audience. Gee things have changed! Go Dees!

  34. He's a gun footy player - he can do whatever he wants on the field. Garry Lyon was the same - put him wherever and he will be great. Getting back to the point of this misguided thread - the only time we trade him is if he requests a trade - you don't shop stars and he is one. End of story.

  35. The club would have been looking/talking to Gaff for the past year. But now, I would say the development of Harmes and Brayshaw thave reduced our need for Gaff, especially if we had to break the bank to get him. Use the money to keep the talent we have which still has so much upside.

  37. Went to the game yesterday, with a mate who is Hawthorn supporter. He also played VFL. His comment as we were leaving the ground "Gee, I would love to have Lewis in our backline next month" That was enough for me.

  38. He's like a puppy. He gets far too excited and far too cocky sometimes, running around frantically then finding himself completely exhausted and unable to make the next contest. I have no doubt that his lack of engine is a big part of why he plays so little midfield minutes. He has good skills and good strengths. I think he isn't the best decision maker and that really hurts, especially when he's trying to hit a target inside 50, and he is not very accountable. He is just really frustrating, and his goal kicking is a massive liability for someone who spends so much time up forward. I think he can absolutely improve and get better, but he needs to do it quickly because eventually the "I'm Petracca pick 2" tickets will run out.

  40. Geez it's nice to have a team of warriors. Everywhere you look there is hard, tough, uncompromising men. There is no boys out there. I was worried we were going to sub consciously go a bit softer and be worried about injury before our first final in 12 years, it clearly isn't in their makeup. Hopefully Kent gets a contract purely for not taking a backwards step, of all people considering his contract status and sub par year, didn't hesitate. The amazing return of AVB just shows what Goodwin wants, beast's. Nearly every player loves a contest. AVB, Oliver, Jetta, Jones, Brayshaw, Harmes, O & T Mac, Melksham, Hibberd, Spargo, Gawn, the list goes on. Look out when Viney gets back. I love Jeffy but he just doesn't fit the mould. This list has been built for finals, there will be no fairytale, they will earn every bit of respect through blood sweat and tears, it is unfolding right before our eyes. Nathan Jones will leave a legacy that will see this club stand as warriors for decades to come.

  41. Just so important for the younger players, the Brayshaws, Olivers, Harmes, Fritschs. THIS is what teams like Hawthorn and Sydney (especially) have had through all these years - and we haven't. By the time Lewis moves on, we'll have established a Melbourne way of doing things, the kind of tough, take no prisoners, nose to the gindstone, just get the job done, ownership approach that characterises successful teams. IMV, can't overestimate enough his contribution to what we're seeing now.

  44. Talk is, Jordan sent a group email to the player group after last weeks win, to reign the group back into line and get them to focus on the bigger picture being finals. Was quite evident today the player reaction after the win was extremely subdued, especially compared to last week. This is the exact reason the club recruited him...to assist the team heading into a finals campaign...
