A long time reader, very infrequent poster. @copuchas I disagree with the majority of what you have written on this thread, clearly you're thinking only from a personal perspective of how much your property price will be impacted (which I think you're wrong anyway). Think about your wider community, as regardless of whether you will use it or not, a state of the art sporting facility open to the surrounding community would only improve it. Where's your current access to such atm? That's without even mentioning the physical therapy facilities on site local residents would have door mat access to - I'd imagine the older punters in the community would get some benefit out of that, whilst their grandkids are snapping goals on the training field like their heroes. As for loss of parkland to walk your dog, really? It's not the whole park being built over, just a small pocket of it. I'm sure there can be a vets chucked into the commercial complex, not too mention a dog park for them to roam off leash. Such a privileged comment, any resident of Melbourne would kill to have access to the park lands within a driver length of East Melbourne - Botanical Gardens, Fitzroy Gardens, Parliament Gardens and the Yarra Park carpark/dog walking lands. We are talking about building over train tracks (soften noise pollution) and building one oval in amongst a car park that can't be used majority of the year anyway. Community activation greater than car parking/dog walking of the area that's unused more days than not...it's an all round win. A problem forever with the MFC is 'what community are we a part of?' - this site would give us a genuine connection to our roots on the very land of our creation in the shadows of the mighty MCG, without some manufactured story of growth corridors of Melbourne etc. A place tourists can easily access in conjunction with the MCG, a place in the heart of Melbourne to represent all of Melbourne. From my 'selfish' perspective, this is exactly what the MFC needs! But, some people are never happy unless they are whingeing - so have a whinge about this and make yourself content. I hope you're wrong. What an exciting period of the clubs history we are moving into - clear direction, strong people and culture across the board, admin, footy dep, players. It feels so bizarre...C'Mon Dees!12 points

i think it clear that the club is looking at a new location that can also include revenue generating assets. with this in mind the yarra park/wellington pde nexus is vastly superior to the more isolated goschs paddock/punt rd nexus from a commercial point of view12 points

Im a bit lost here...what real loss to parkland ? In a fashion youll have some rubbishy grassed area not reall usuable for much other than parkibg cars....being replaced by an area of grass usuable by club and community alike. The grass will still be green...no ?7 points

Some recognition at last from Channel 7. The following Casey Demons games will be telecast live:- • Round 13 (June 30): Essendon vs Casey Demons (RAMS Arena) • Round 14 (July 7): Casey Demons vs North Melbourne (Casey Fields)7 points

I am thoroughly in favour of the site: a, i would be shameless in promoting the indigenous links afl has to the local community and put our players men and women at the front of it. this use is consistent with what the area was and has been used for ever. b, mention that you are converting a car park to an oval c, emphasize how often the oval will be available to the public. versus it's use as a carpark. d, incorporate a water conservation strategy into the proposal, also maybe a zero emmission strategy - how Melbourne is looking to reduce its energy footprint, linkbit to preserving the snow at Buller... but seriously a little effort in that regard to try and bring the greens into the conversation rather than treating them as the enemy. that way if they take a mindless nimby approach they can be called out for it. e, be smart about lighting, come up with a plan that doesn't pi$$ off the neighbours f, pedestrian access, focus on access to site that doesn't pi$$ off the neighbours, so they dont get scared by demonlanders loitering doing training reports. g, offer the neighbours on the closest street the use of the gym and some game tickets etc even get Hunt carry the old biddy's shopping home. h, speak to local councils about youth unemployment, see if something can incorporate some training for local youth on landscaping and other activities associated with developing the site. Really want this project-if enough community consultation is done we can get over the nimby factor6 points

No Frost or Petty??? Cox monstered omcd last week who gets Dixon??? Omcd??? who gets Westoff??? J Smith ??? both too small , just my opinion I thought Frost in to take Dixon and omcd gets westoff6 points

Herald Sun article left out one crucial detail - the new Demonland headquarters will also be part of the development. As you can see from this artist's impression, it will be discretely located right next to the MFC admin building.6 points

DV8 seriously!! Anyone with kids keen enough to put kids into a car, drive to a train station, unload kids from the car, get on the train, get off the train at Richmond... isn’t going to be put off by an extra 150m walk.5 points

So from who is on the plane .. we can confirm the one change ... Smith in Pedersen: Out cannot question that change. Smith offers more at ground level and seems to gel unlike Pedersen with the other two big forwards. Big game needed from Hogan amongst others. Strangely ambivalent to this game ... the QB game pricked my balloon of optimism well and truly. Go Dees5 points

Done the way you show it, a rejig of the pathway over a short distance and the removal and replanting of some trees to line that rejigged pathway, would not see any interference to the park land at all. Surely it is better to have some community use of the area as an oval, than a car park where the ground can be damaged. You can still use the oval when the MFC is not training, yet chopped up ground from cars in winter is far harder to walk across. Plant a few more trees here and there and you have improved the park area. The new building would help deaden the train noise and improve the look of the tracks area, which is an eyesore. I would think the nearby residents would have an improved lifestyle and raised property values. A win/win. Now lets hear from the Greenies.5 points

I thought Bartlett could have been a little more diplomatic than referring to Pert (an outsider) as the ""absolute standout candidate" given that the internal candidates were all current and valued employees. They would have been understandably disappointed to have missed the top job. A little more empathy would not have gone astray. Bartlett could have publicly praised all the candidates as worthy applicants whilst at the same time stating that Pert was the the Committees preferred candidate given his background, skills and experience, and the responsibilities of the position,4 points

A little bit of overkill regarding Lever’s loss to the team. In reality he was pretty poor-average for most of his games with us apart from 2, so to blame his injury on our backline’s dysfunctionality is a little presumptive and plainly wrong Notwithstanding the above, he WILL be a fantastic addition to our team in the future4 points

whilst parking is obviously part of the mix, i don't think parking should be one of the major factors in determining whether a particular location is acceptable. to me it is just a minor consideration and shouldn't be unduly conflated4 points

It’s a nice map link but I’m not sure how many times you have been to training? The MFC trains at the Southern half of Gosch’s Paddock (not abutting Swan Street). There is a series of soccer fields in between which are heavily used and an effective barrier between the AFL oval and any mooted administration/training HQ mooted over Swan Street. Also, make no mistake, the buerocratic and logistic hurdles involved trying to gain approvals and then build over Swan Street and the tram lines vs taking a 99 year lease over rail lines (already sunk within a culvert) makes it a much inferior option. And for what? With the Yarra Park proposal we have a potential HQ with street frontage, immediately abutting rail and tram, overlooking our training oval and 100 metres from the MCG. In your option, we would have a costly elevated HQ overlooking soccer fields, further from the MCG and essentially equidistant from our current training oval than current facilities are.4 points

I'm happy that Jake is getting some time in the coaches box whilst he recovers. I mentioned either on the site or on the podcast when he first did his ACL that I thought this would be a good idea and a good opportunity for a future leader of this club to get that experience and perspective.3 points

We might have some faith in them because they've pretty much gotten it right since Round 2.3 points

It's funny how people say "I have faith in the match committee" when it's as clear as day they got it wrong in round 1 playing Maynard and Wagner who are nowhere near it. I don't understand why you'd have faith in the match committee. Neither Pedersen or T Smith are up to it. They only get in the way of Hogan and TMac up forward, are ordinary rucks, and give nothing at ground level once it's bounced. Why wouldn't you bring Frost in to provide the run you don't get from Lewis, Vince, and Jetta, the extra key position depth if Oscar and J Smith fail again, and a back up ruck that is quicker than all our one paced mids who watched Collingwood moonwalk the ball out of the middle? I can't even be bothered talking about Tyson, who now takes us to 10 inside midfielders of the starting 22 and does nothing for the balance of the side. Very underwhelming ins.3 points

I don’t know how people can be so vehemently against it when none of the details have been released. It’s based purely on a touched up sketch in the Herald-Sun. Talk about going into things with an open mind. ?3 points

If Pert was the standout candidate, i have no issue. For so long the MFC has accepted the 2nd and 3rd best people all through the club. Look at the difference Jason Taylor and PJ have made compared to their predecessors. Massive difference. We need to keep that going. Those who didn’t get the position can either work with Pert and help achieve greatness or find alternative jobs, if they must. I hope they all stay and help achieve...3 points

That sort of long term, big money contract, will probably succeed. I think he will stay an Eagle. He has driven his price and deal up and that was probably the aim of the exercise.3 points

A number of elements come to play among all this... looking on as a spectator : Almost funny anyone would see 6 Stories as a hindrance . Just look around....and up ?? The powers that be at the MFC seem very tight lipped these days. I'd be surprised if they relaxed the reigns on this getting out save they thought it appropriately progressed. Further to my noting a trend to explore the construction above tracks I seem to recall somewhere ( happy to be corrected ) that for whatever reason planning permission above tracks is not a local jurisdiction.i.e Spring St can approve with stroke of a pen. For the Greenies i propose that having built our facilities that Punt Rd be razed to the ground and rehabilitated to urban Forrest...seems only fair. Again i think the proposal has merit...legs ? ?? Jolimont might need recasting as Demonland ???3 points

I think access for supporters is possibly the least important consideration for this venue. The primary aim would appear to be to consolidate admin and the footy department, including the gym and all the other stuff needed for indoor training, within one site and to have it near a training oval of similar dimensions to the MCG. The next consideration is to have it as near as possible to our home, the MCG. The third aim would likely be revenue generating possibilities. I don't know whether a social club and a "Demons store" are revenue positive or not, but I suspect both are likely to be less revenue positive than other options such as leased office space, a commercial car park or even a non-Demon branded coffee shop. My preference for that third aim would be to maximise revenue and if that means no social club or even a Demon shop, I could live with that.3 points

He was a very popular radio DJ in London on a station called X FM, I used to listen to it when I lived in London. Has moved to Gold FM here and had different teams pitch to him to decide on a team. Good choice I reckon!3 points

Can you imagine this thread on the Collingwood boards? I feel the dissection of options - delving into planning, change management, staff accommodation, traffic considerations, marketing, revenue, community value add, community engagement, future planning, etc - it really is a cut above. Bravo, all.3 points

One of the things that needs to be done is for all the stadium deals to be made public. All of the stadiums are built and maintained substantially on taxpayer money. There is no real need to keep them secret as their is no natural competitor that could make use of the information such as might be the case for the Australian Open and the tennis centre. The deal offered to clubs should be identical and I have no objection to clubs getting bigger revenue if their crowds are higher. At Docklands they really need to do something to resolve the Medallion club impasse. Absolutely ridiculous for the best seats to be left empty for so many matches.3 points

It was never planned as a ‘home ground’ (as that is always going to be the “G”) but as our training ground, with our administration, gym, training facilities, ‘Demon Shop’ (presumably) and, most important, our “Social Club” right next to the “G” where we can congregate post match and even use during the week (like a “Gold Class” Bentleigh Club)! A place where we can feature our memorabilia and walk past our trophy cabinets stacked with Premiership Cups!3 points

This is the persona he projects to the media. Clearly he is a different person at training, in meetings etc. When he speaks to the media he protects the players and re-inforces the culture and the expectations he wants to associate with the club. What is wrong with that? Nothing. In fact, it's exactly what we need. He never got carried away after 4,5,6 wins in a row. Instead he said that we're doing things right and that we need to continue to do so. We'll have bumps in the road (ie. Collingwood) but I like the fact Goodwin is working hard to keep them grounded and to play the 'Melbourne way' no matter who the opposition is.3 points
