Who'd have thought a player who just ticked over his 25th game and getting some continuity of footy after a full preseason is finding his feet. Not everyone needs to be or can be a superstar. If anything the great teams all have their role players who no one quite gets how they keep knocking up games but it keeps happening. Usually their best attribute is discipline. They do exactly as asked, get the most out of themselves, have a small variable between their best and worst and sacrifice their individual game for the greater balance of the team. I suspect Wagner is that type of player. He may get overtaken in our back half to change dynamic or if we continue to improve and have low injury rate. I also think there is just as much chance of his ongoing improvement and seeing him there at the end of season is also not unexpected.8 points

You moan about selection every week. In fact moaning is about all you do. Then we don’t hear [censored] from you when we win and the selections were fine. Until the next lot of selections, rinse and repeat. Download yourself a football manager game, be Lord of the selectors and spare us the whinging and exclaimantion marks.8 points

Hopefully the Casey FM radio van doesn't get bogged this week.7 points

To allow a 4th gamer to kick 5 on you at home, goodness me. I’ve seen Chupa Chups that refuse to be unwrapped put up a bigger fight than the Crows last night.7 points

Let’s revisit the ladder after Hawthorn, Richmond and Essendon. Sitting 3rd after wins against Brisbane and North doesn’t count for a lot.7 points

I’ll be going to both this game and then the Dees v Hawks game Sunday, hopefully it’s a good weekend where we come away with 2 wins.7 points

As I have bored people with before: we are not big enough to eat each other alive from past ills. 23 years of irrelevance, the near merger, the bubbling debt, the non-tanking verdict, the Neeld choice - they make up a rich tapestry of failure that we have all endured in the past and have stuck by the club. If you are a Demon at heart you are welcome inside the house in my view. And you can certainly query why a player isn’t selected...6 points

I really like the look of Jack Silvagni. Especially because he plays for Carlton.5 points

Just quietly because I don’t want to put this young man under any pressure but congratulations to Tiernan Stynes (son of Jim) on making the South Metro Junior Football League Under 13 Boys Interleague squad. And the Demons continue to be mentioned as a strong chance to secure another famous son from two different sports, basketball and tennis - Austin Bradke as a Category B prospect.5 points

Picked up a snippet on SEN when driving today. They were interviewing Jeremy Howe and asked him how he felt like finally having success after he played for us. The tyres are getting pumped up on the Collingwood bandwagon again. I switched off the radio.4 points

Just what I was thinking, while Eddie was creaming his pants over literally everything the Majak Daw did I was so pleased with how hard he tackled a guy twice his size and made him feel it. He's got a bit of mongrel in him, if channelled properly I think he'll be around around for a long time yet.4 points

Some absolute garbage written in this thread. I don’t know what people are watching. Kid who has struggled to string blocks of footy together, for numerous reasons, hasn’t found consistency yet, isn’t that shocking? Anyway, his hit on Majak after Majak nearly knocked Lewis’ wig off made me smile. Onwards and upwards for Salem4 points

How bloody good was Clarry's first goal. Running towards an awkwardly bouncing ball with his opponent right behind, having to change stride and pace to take clean possession of the ball, the acceleration away from the opponent and then the kick around the body at full pace straight through the goals. If Danger or Dusty had done the same, the commentators would have wet themselves. Our Clarry does it naturally. And now he is being compared to Diesel for his handball skills. There are times when it's so good to be a Demon.3 points

Quite a bit of few on the ground when I walked out to the qtr time huddle. New grandstand is quite impressive. Rawlings ripped into the forwards at the break. Hunt in everything, White our best player so far. Balic started on the ball this week3 points

For anyone who's interested I can confirm it is a horrible night in Hobart, had to pedal my bike down the hills to get to work otherwise I would have been blown back up them. Just sitting here listing to the rain belting down on the roof. Shame because yesterday was perfect weather for footy. Anyhow, should make for an already terrible game to be even worse. Just need north to get up to get my multi home.3 points

Fairly cold night but the rains have seemed to stop. Not much wind so hope it stays that way. I believe Hunt and Stretch are being held over as emergencies but I’ll confirm that later on.3 points

Lions seem to have had a rough draw to start the year. - The 4 games so far vs Saints, Demons, Port and Tigers and - 3 of 4 games intertsteate: 2 trips to Victoria and 1 to Adelaide. No wonder they've run out of puff. Would like to see them win a few especially against the teams I really hate (have only moderate dislike for Lions which is the best I can give to any AFL side).3 points

Came across this table in an article about Weitering vis a vis his contemporaries after each had played 45 games. Green = very good, Red = very poor. Lever played his 45th game around the middle of 2017 so stats are still current. Lever's weaknesses are Pressure Points, Tackles and especially one-on-one contest losses ie those things that require close work on the opp player/contest. He is an elite interceptor but not yet an elite defender. He will be when he overcomes those three weaknesses. I have no doubt he will.3 points

I hadn't seen that but have backed it. I think i may have posted this before but Sportsbet have a seemingly standing offer of the first four races money back up to $50 if your horse finished 2-4. It always syd and melb but changes for the third venue. The week it is Morphetville so really getting each way with Music bay in a small field. I've done the form for Randwick with the thought it will suit horses on the speed and and sitting 2-3 of the fence (so favouring horses from barriers 8-13). It is one reason i also really like Hiyaam.3 points

I don't wish to derail a thread with Oscar talk. I just find it funny when posters change the narrative to suit their argument in regards to him. A game that includes a total of 6 possessions, 2 of those being uncontested with 3 free kicks against is poor whichever way you look at it. Yeh Brown may have had a couple of goals that weren't directly to do with Oscar. But again, it's interesting none of brought up the goal Oscar gave to Waite when he was caught holding the ball after showing zero awareness in the contest. Oscar was poor both as a number one defender and in providing an option as part of our attacking zone. You can't really hide from the facts. He was totally ineffective in most contests. We can take this elsewhere if you wish to continue.3 points

Morning punters. Apologies for not putting up my best etc last couple of weeks. Have been flat out Sat mornings. Coincided with a scratchy couple of weeks for me on the punt so i can assure you did not miss much, though my value runner last week was Houtzen (which was just about my only winner). Another tough day in sydney. But big fields mean good vale so fingers crossed. So here are my tips, all at Randwick Best bet: Race 2 no 2 Isaurian Best value: Race 8 no 10 Aloft Best longshot: Race 6 n no 10 She’s a Treasure Good luck on what is really the last day of Autumn for me save a couple of races i like in Morphetville in the next couple of weeks.3 points

Yes. Its called getting older and stronger. He is a kid still. Like lever he has just tuened 22. Brown is taller, older and stronger. Of course he is going to get out muscled sometimes by seasoned kpfs like brown At least he is not being out muscled by small forwards like menzel or debutants. Shoved is a good word actually. He was outmarked twice, with one being a blatant push in the back.3 points

There are very few mids with no weaknesses. Even some of the greats have weaknesses. Sam Mitchell - slow/contested marking, Simon Black - slow, Dangerfield - kicking, so on and so forth. Oliver has speed, great hand and foot skills, marking ability, agility, body size, aggression, vision, decision making, etc. He has no weakness. None. That's not to say he'll end up as good as some of those players, as they have a level of sheer brilliance that can't be measured. And that is the only query. Can he show he's capable of the regular sheer brilliance of the greats. I hope so.3 points
