  2. Can we have one Jack Watts thread? Then people who want to complain about trading him when he kicks a few can do so, and when he plays a stinker the same people can jump on and talk about how happy they are he left. He's no longer a Dees player so couldn't care less what he does on an individual level. All I care about is how many wins we have.

  3. I wish Jack all the best at Port. He was always a good player for us, and a loyal clubman too. The club treated him appalling at times and mismanaged him his whole career. From the get go he was thrown to the wolves, and never in AFL history has a player had so much unwarranted external pressure placed on them throughout their career. He was loyal to the end and we cast him out. Anyone who holds a grudge against him or wishes him ill is a f*cking fool. I don't think it was a bad trade to move him out, as it definitely shows where the club is heading and has now symbolically moved on all players born from that dark period in the clubs history. However, there should be no ill will against a guy who was loyal and was instead pushed out the door. Best of luck with the rest of your career Jack. Do us a favour though and fluff a few of your usually perfect kicks when you play against us though please!

  4. Rocking up to his 9th season (2017) he was still half dedicated to the cause. He'd run out of time. The right decision was made. Best you let it go.

  5. I laughed when I read this on the AFL website though: Watts gives another genuine tall target who can beat his opponent one-on-one. ummm I liked Jack when he was at Melbourne, but I think this is perhaps over-gilding the lilly

  6. A hotly contested game in extremely hot conditions. According to my car temperature gauge it was 42 degrees when I got back to the car and it didn't drop below 36 all the way home. Players rotated frequently and they appeared spent when sitting on the bench. It was a gritty win for Casey Demons as both key defenders in Keilty and Gordon went off injured by half time. This left Petty as the key defender, and though he was out muscled on a few occasions he showed real promise (in my humble opinion). He is still lightly built and at present will struggle against bigger bodied forwards, however he reads the play extremely well and is good overhead. Also a good kick to position. JFK looked to be our stand out player over 4 qtrs., though he understandably tired as the game progressed. 3 goals was just reward for his work rate, Spargo has great skills and provides plenty of outside run, as well as winning his own contested ball and creating opportunities for others. Kicked 2 goals I think. Harley Balic looked very promising and not far off a senior game. Strong bodied and wins plenty of the ball and uses it well. Weideman kicked a goal after a strong mark and became more involved as the game progressed. Started winning the ball up on the half forward/wing. Often finds himself double teamed and competing against the full back and their ruck dropping back in to defence. Oscar Baker has good speed and tries to be creative to set up attacking opportunities. Uses the ball quite well and also takes a good mark. Uses his speed to get o plenty of contests. Used off half back today. Good to see Tim Smith back after 12 months out. Looked understandably rusty and the run will do him good. Took a couple of typical strong marks. Keilty was good until injured. Marked well overhead and used the ball well from defence. Dean Kent was his usual bullocking self and kicked at least one goal and could have got a couple more. His strong contested work does set up opportunities for others. Dion Johnstone was in the same boat as Kent, but I did not sight him as much. Still an excellent tackler. Matt King's ruck work was very good, often giving our mid fielders first use of the ball. He has a good leap and he could have kicked a few goals if he had held on to all his marks. Lochie Filopovic has really filled out and competed well against two bigger bodied Port ruckmen. He collected a head knock which required bandaging several times. Great to see Jade Rawlings giving plenty of positive feed back to the players at the breaks. On another positive note Casey have maintained Dylan Gordon, Mitch Gent, Angus Scott, Goy Louk (finished the game on crutches after coming off in the 3rd qtr) and Jimmy Munro. Jack Hutchins didn't play and will certainly help bolster the defence. Max Gawn. Cam Pederson and Bayley Fritsch were MFC players in attendance.

  7. I hate to wish injury upon any player... But I really hope Dangerfield has an injury.

  8. I don’t wish any ill will towards him, I hope he does well at port, as long as he’s cr@p when he plays us!

  9. Nonsense. Every year there are teams who are both strengthened and weakened by injury to individuals. Are you suggesting we wouldn't have fared better last season with full years from Viney, Hogan and Gawn? Any side playing Geelong without Dangerfield will be naturally better off. The bloke is the best player in the competition. Richmond last year had one player injured for the back-half of their year which was clearly a contributing factor to them winning the premiership. Does that make it any less sweet because of their injury luck? No. Referring back to when we played Hawthorn a few years ago is a pointless exercise as we were the laughing stock of the competition with a seriously poor list and Hawthorn were at the top of their powers. I'll take any advantage possible going into this home and away season. Dangerfield missing round 1 would be a major plus for us.

  10. Haha yeah probably. I can handle people criticising his performance, I'm probably the worst for it myself. It's just the fact that he was obviously injured and in pain, and I was pretty worried, she just hit the wrong nerve.

  11. I agree. You will probably need to stop visiting these forums. Opposition supporters are bad, but the comments from some posters on here will be the ones that cut the deepest.

  15. Ladder after round 6. Basically any of the top 5 teams can make the GF (if I have the logic right). From the Top - If: Bulldogs win - in GF at Home Demons win - in GF at Home Crows win can dislodge loser of Bulldogs vs Demons and into GF as they have extra points for drawn game GWS win can dislodge loser of Bulldogs vs Demons and go into GF as they have extra points for drawn game Both Crows and GWS win the one with the higher % will go into the GF Lions win go into the GF if Crows lose and their % is better than loser of Demons vs Bulldogs. (This is the only scenario in which our % counts). We must win next week! Or we rely on Lions to beat GWS (by just a small margin) and Pies to beat Crows. We might look back and rue the game we lost badly to Freo after having the proverbial 'unassailable lead' at the end of the first quarter Again we hold our destiny in our own hands! Go Dees! Thanks to @dl4ethere is another outcome - a draw with Bulldogs will see both teams into the GF

  16. I’d prefer to beat them with danger as we play better against better equiped sides. I just hate girlong.

  18. The dilemma continues and many of us will nearly always feel a loss. It is difficult to dismiss Jack now that he has left the Club and many of us wish him well in the greater football world. Now it is time for us sympathisers to heal; Jack has. We must move on with focus on the current bank balance and its possibilities. The problem with being a MFC supporter is that we are loyal as hell, forced to be reminiscent, living histories of neglect and poor decision-making, and consequently unsuccessful at the level of which we dream. Let's do it this time.

  19. Do you want to win those games? The guy needs to prove he can do well at Casey before you worry about AFL.

  22. I want to tell a story from yesterday. I was watching the game with my old man and sister, sitting behind us was this young woman who was annoying me all game, mouthing off and being a pain. When Keilty got injured at the start of the 3rd quarter, and was lying on the ground before being helped up by the medical staff, we were obviously pretty concerned. All of a sudden I hear this young girl behind me say "oh look he's just faking it". I turned around and stared at her and said "what did you just f***ing say?" before my sister (who hadn't heard what she said) intervened and calmed me down. Man I was so angry, I wanted to kill her. Just needed to get that off my chest.

  23. Its in a preseason practice game. It is still 6 goals against his name but the intensity of the normal season is missing as clubs focus on their own structures. If he can maintain that form all year, it'll be the jack we expected but didn't get often enough.

  24. There once was a boy named Jack Who sometimes copped a lot of flack He kicked 6 one week And the trolls they did seek To act as though they'd snorted some crack.

  25. Spargo forward and a bit up the field. Speedy, aggressive, penetrating kick and knows where the goals are. Baker mainly across half back. Composed, looks for options, covers the ground well and appears confident. Promising.

  27. Really dynamic forward line no matter which depth players make it; Hannan and Fritsch can make above their head (and on other peoples heads), Hogan, Petracca, Melksham, and ANB can go into the midfield, and Pedersen, McDonald and Hogan can all be targets for long footy. As opposed to the last 6 players picked, I am looking for the following to be the best players on the park most weeks; Oliver, Petracca, Hogan, Hibberd, Lever, and ... Salem (yeah, I know...). If that happens, we will win a lot of footy games.

  30. Yes Wadda, Ace High is building really nicely and is obviously looking for the 2000m and further. Won't be long to wait either ... The Rosehill Guineas (2000m) is being held in 2 weeks (March 24) and then the Australian Derby (2400m) is held on April 7. Ace High showing 3.50 for the Guineas and 6.00 for the Derby.

  31. Straight swap Watts,J. For Fritsch,B. I can live with that. Bayley has racked up more hard ball gets in 2 practise games than Wattsy got in 9 years. Wattsy was a beautiful kick, the rest of his game never got past average. When he looks back at it all in 30 years he will agree.

  32. My mate Brett went to Randwick yesterday. He said Ace High is a huge horse. So powerful. Once it gets up to its right distance, nothing will get past it. Needless to say hes a fan. It did look like he was really starting to wind up yesterday. Another 200m and would have smashed em. Its being set for the Cups in Spring. He took a double Caulfield/Melbourne and got 143/1

  33. I think what you and others fail to appreciate is that Watts was let go for cultural reasons more than his footballing prowess.

  34. So you are happy to read the derogatory comments (useless, downhill skier, pea heart) even when he plays a good game but can't take a few positive comments? Well that's your problem.

  35. Agree Pates. Wish him all the best and hope he does well, just not too well when he plays us. afaic, we are a poorer team as a result of his departure.

  36. I don't think so. He missed most of a season prior to draft being drafted. And has just had operations on his legs. So is just coming back, apparently his first hitout of this preseason. I reckon it would better judgement mid season. Thats should answer any questions around effort intensity by then, & if his hits some form, then that as well.

  37. Jack was always a quality player and one of the most skillful on our list, I never agreed with the decision to let him go but I have accepted it and moved on. Good luck at Port Wattsy, early signs are that you are going to kill it.

  38. Goodwin on the ground interview after the game with David King: David King: "Some fresh faces for round one ?" Simon Goodwin: "Yeah it looks like it, yeah look, Bayley Fritsch is playing some really good footy, so he's one guy I could nearly say that he's going to be pretty close to selection for round one". He was nodding his head as he was speaking. I read (heard) it as he's in.

  40. I agree. Even though we ultimately lost the game, Travis Johnstone’s 3rd quarter against the Crows in 2002 is the best (short) period of football I have ever seen by any player. It was unbelievable. I can’t recall being more excited watching footy as I was at 3/4 time in that game. I couldn’t speak following the final siren though. Was a devastating and ultimately undeserved loss.

  45. Tyson's pace is virtually never an issue, he has a great sidestep, is creative, tough, is hard to bring down, is good overhead, knows how to find the footy, is valuable in rotations through the centre square, and usually a good distributor. You may not have him in your best 22, but I'm certain Goodwin does.
