  1. Whateley is a huge get. An old fashioned type of caller, but adjusted for the 21st century. Clear intelligent commentary and does his homework.

  3. Ease up. Dr Turf has been a clever, successful and funny bastard since his days on 3RRR A lot of the topics he raised with KB were very worthy of discussion and no i am not gambler or horse lover of any note. The Jon Ralph hours were far worse

  4. Thanks for running this again Macca. The beauty of this comp is that it seems so simple - yeah pick 3 away winners - but it's not quite that easy to pick up points. I think 2 or 3 times this season I lost points in games decided in OT so the comp certainly keeps you interested. And I think I got my tips in every round so that's a PB for me ! Congrats Clintosaurus - too good & a great score Bring on the playoffs

  5. Good season of tipping and banter in here. Thanks @Macca for organising and I'll be in the post season version for sure. Hopeful the Jags can get past Buffalo and Pittsburgh to the AFC Championship Game. Good luck to everyone else with teams in the playoffs.

  6. I though KB went alright by himself along with his regular guests. Don’t see a need for him to be paired off.

  7. They will fill the 3pm - 6pm time slot. It will be called " KB and the Doc". I posted the wrong time slot earlier.

  8. Either SEN is going to change sufficiently, to start appealing to more than bogans (I count myself as one, considering the amount of time is spend listening to it) , or Whateley won’t last the year

  11. Big get, yes. Money speaks. What a waste of talent. One of my faves. Was hoping he'd go to 7 and half of their knobbs get the flick, especially BT. Oh well... http://www.theage.com.au/sport/gerard-whateley-leaves-abc-radio-to-host-sen-morning-show-20180101-h0c5za.html

  16. I get so tired of economists, I really do. Economic statisticians in particular. There are a number of little fluffy statements that should be read as 'please note massive caveat on data and circular interpretation'. For example " While Melbourne did better with its lower picks, those players generally aren’t as important for team performance as players selected with higher picks. " Terrible charts, badly labelled, inconsistent formats being presented as if they are a like for like comparison. Conclusions thrown in as inserted sentences well before the discussion of the actual evidence. This is embarrassing to read. Anyway, to the substance. Richmond's 2005 and 2007 drafts were among the worst of any club, ever. Their 2010 draft was made respectable only by picking up Houli in the pre-season instead of a trade, unless you're a real fan of Reece Conca. 2011 produced only one player, Brandon Ellis. As discussed in a number of other threads, Richmond's premiership hinged on an amazing surge of recruitment in just the last few years, with close to half their premiership team arriving since 2012. Anyway... back to griping about economic statisticians. What the hell is going on with that first chart? Every year only has two data points, except for 2009... oh... oh my. Oh boy oh boy. I have a hunch... let me just check a few things... yep. capslock time PROFESSOR OF ECONOMICS AT UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE HAS INCLUDED ONLY PLAYERS STILL IN THE RICHMOND TEAM FIVE YEARS LATER AS DATA POINTS WHEN ASSESSING DRAFT PERFORMANCE Basically, all failures have been excluded from the sample, in a 'study' that claims to assess success or failure.

  18. GREAT player. Will we regret this when he ha a premiership medal and we just miss the finals. Fire away. Remember play the post not the man(similar to play the ball not the man or your booked).

  19. Apparently earlier today I was in a 'sel-harm' mood and instead of calling lifeline I went through with it and watched the last quarter of the final game against Collingwood. Jack Watts absolutely stank it up that quarter. From failing to cover his opponent (cost a goal) to spectating and then failing to lay an effective tackle or smother in the goalsquare (cost a goal), to spectating and then arriving too late to affect a contest just outside the square (cost a point, luckily) to fluffing a forward run, to a whole string of really poor body language, it was terrible. I don't have a personal problem with Jack Watts the way some people seem to, but rewatching his last quarter for us has left me with a much better understanding of why he had to be moved on. Wishing him all the best (up to a certain point) at Port, and also confident we made the best decision possible at the time.

  22. How many times have people said that about the poor old Browns.

  23. Saquon Barkley is off to the draft - Browns would be crazy not to take him at #1. Mock I just looked at has them taking Baker Mayfield at #4. They would be set for years with those picks. Browns also have #33, #35 and Philly's second to draft based on need. Think their secondary would be a focus then.

  24. Whately needs a buffoon to deal with the Bogans. Slobbo will be too busy with spell check for his gossip reporting for the Hun,to say nothing of sleeping off hangovers from the night before. Ox comes to mind ..lovable bufffoon who probably knows more than he lets on

  29. 8 new teams make the playoffs ... which means that 20 different teams have made the playoffs in the last 2 seasons. Quite amazing. I'm not sure there's another sporting league in the world where the parity is as it is in the NFL. Every team has 167 million to spend on player salaries which should mean that every team gets to have it's fair share of top-end talent. Except for the Browns it seems

  31. This if Richmond win the flag next year I might take them seriously, a good run with injuries anyone can win it. do Richmond win the flag if they have our injuries? No way I doubt they play finals we lost gawn, hogan, viney, Jones for big chunks Richmond Lose riewoldt, rance, Martin and cotchin for as long as we lost our boys absolutely no chance they get anywhere near the top 8

  33. We have recruited well in recent years. We have not developed playing styles and all-ground intensity, direction or communication. We allow our coaching staff to separate players into like-groups too often, without coaching for support, support and some more support whatever the position on the ground. Skills develop from on-ground linkages and common purposes. We have allowed clearances and fwd playmakers to 'bomb' as there are no runners getting into positions to make a difference. Our recruits tend to fade when these overt characteristics of our long-term game plan and problem-solving emerge, dictating and advertising our approach across a game. Some recruits on game day are good enough, now, to overcome these issues. It is far from a 'whole team' approach. This is not always the case but our Mr Reliability in the backline is about to become a forward in the coming season. Although he telegraphed his intent with disposal, often he did not thanks to the young breed who have come into the side. Patience and effort may make us more potent to play the game that we have seen as the Demons' Game, with the young brigade running, running and advancing the pill to our best advantage. Just an opinion, nothing more.

  37. If there was an incident but the woman involved doesn't want to pursue it for whatever reason then to me no further comment is the only feasible outcome. Should the club come out and name the player involved in said incident when he could be totally innocent? should they say it's been investigated and handled when maybe there is no conclusion because she doesn't want to speak to the club or AFL?I mean why should she, they are hardly relevant & non biased legal authorities. I know it would be good to have a conclusion, everything nicely wrapped up but sometimes this is not possible. I would be interested to know who leaked the story though....

  38. Cannot tolerate this thread, at all. Poorly managed alleged incident; poorly developed into a real witch-hunt. In Melbourne during the week, without encouragement, guys in a pub we convinced of some errant insider information that the player concerned in the allegations was identifiable and outwardly stated that case. Rather sickening, really. Speculation and all-knowing rumours destroy one's faith in the processes of law and/or the sanctity of innocence before proven guilt. Sorry state of affairs.

  39. Last year the Casey jumper and name was changed to Demons. Now, we have significantly beefed up the Casey staffing. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-12-26/exciting-times-at-casey-maynard This is a far cry from the pre Roos days. He recruited Plapp to start integrating Casey and Demons. Looking at MFC website the Casey staff are fully integrated into the MFC structure. It is no coincidence that most of the recent AFL premiers have very successful and integrated VFL teams. Bodes well for the future of both teams.

  45. No it won't it what it WILL point out is in the player management stakes Roosy and Hinkley will be better player managers. I'm tipping some "Serious" Mental disintegration of Demonland people when he has a "Stellar" Season which I firmly believe he will have!
