First, I want to join the chorus of all those wishing fellow Demonlanders a safe and enjoyable festive season, and a prosperous 2018 for our beloved football team. Like many around here, I find it hard to resist the feeling that we are headed for good places in 2018, but I know only too well the bitter disappointments that this team can deliver, year, upon year, upon year. I'm doing my best to temper my excitement with a dash of realism, but it ain't easy! Second, I want to thank the owners and 'managers' of Demonland for taking this wonderful site to new levels in 2017. Outstanding work folks! And a special thanks for the hard yakka and vigillence that has been involved in keeping some of the more difficult recent threads on the straight and narrow. Greatly appreciated! Go Dees!5 points

A tremendous loss for us all. He was a very rapidly developing player with some silky natural skills when, in his moment of glory, was taken. I hope the club can make some appropriate statement on his memory and behalf; he was certainly an impressive young man who happened to also be a very talented footballer. RIP1 point

DemonlAN Zephyr has been nominated for a race this Saturday at Sandown. Im unsure yet if they will accept but this is his last chance to salute for the first/only time in 2017.1 point

Subaru would be a good get. Like the three game membership perhaps we could use that particular model as a 2 game sponsor for our " Home Games" out there.1 point

just to give a more complete picture of co2/temperature ranges across the ages note cambrian period with 7000ppm co2 and a average global temperature of a 22C note all the other times where the average global temperature has been around 22C (quite a lot of the time actually) and look at the corresponding co2 levels. there doesn't seem to be a very close correlation1 point

They are now sponsoring the Melbourne Cup so can't see them doing us as well, so maybe the boys will be in Vitaras or Datsuns.1 point

...and we head off on our Sunshine Coast camp in January, the same type of training camp the Hawks are doing. So what is the point of this comment? How are the Commando Hawks showing us up? They're not doing a "Commando Camp". Rather than balanced I would say it's an irrelevant article The above is probably the most honest quote in the article...well almost, there is a twist. Call other football people out on it but then to hell with it and do it yourself, one of the oldest tricks in the book. Makes the writer out as being the superior journalist.1 point

Important article in Fairfax press by a girl who does't like fruit peel in her Christmas Cake. The Age once again dealing with the real news. And the ever charming Clementine Ford wrote a gem about being lonely at Christmas (is it any wonder).1 point

That's the aim of the AFL/clubs is to have so many members that games are on a reserved basis only, just like the WA/SA clubs and Essendon (when playing at Docklands). Makes them more money and the TV rights will go up when that is the only way people can watch. It's why I've held on to my AFL Membership and why I signed my kids up for it at birth, will never have a problem getting a great seat and if the Demons ever make the big one I'll be all but guaranteed a ticket.1 point

Minneapolis StPaul has a population of around 3.3 million according to Wikipedia and the stadium capacity is 67k for the 8 or so games of NFL. Many years ago I lived in Washington DC. Even then tickets to a Redskins game were impossible to obtain. People literally left their entitlements by will to family members. I managed to get to a practice game two rounds before the start of the regular season. The stadium was full even for that. In the year before I went to live in DC, Congress passed a law requiring the NFL to broadcast matches into cities where they were played if no tickets were available. This was almost 15 years or so before the AFL allowed live broadcasts of the Grand Final when they were sell outs. We are very lucky with our ability to attend games and the price while not insubstantial is low by comparison to followers overseas. I often wonder how traditional supporters of the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool ever afford to follow their teams.1 point

I agree old dee we are heading down the US track very quickly. Grand Finals will soon be for the rich and a select few. As an interstate member I make 2 to 3 games a year at the G and the Subi games. I go and watch junior footy/wafl colts every weekend and local footy on Saturday. Love my Amateur footy in a Saturday arvo with a group of mates and our kids can't beat $4 beers. The AFL needs to be careful pricing out the regular punter and killing the goose who laid the golden egg1 point

Ok, so this sucks. The player, the club and supporters all caught in some weird limbo. No formal complaint has been made, or charge laid. You Can not prove your innocence (or defend your actions) for something you haven’t been properly accused of. it would be a pretty crappy Christmas for that individual. At what point is this all closed, or does it remain open indefinitely? it would be best if the person concerned was able to resolve their position and move ahead. Then we can get from innuendo to facts, to resolution (and justice if needed). Up until then, it is limbo time.....1 point

My kids are a bit younger and got the "Little Devils" pack and they were stoked. They got a backpack, stickers, colouring book, fake tattoos and the creased Viney poster. They were wearing their backpacks and lanyards with stickers all up and down their arms last night1 point

Anyone else disappointed that there'll be no double-headers this year? I thought it was a good way for fans to see two games in a day, and for the AFLW to motivate supporters to come along when they otherwise might not.1 point
