  1. I posted elsewhere. Thanks Liam, Mitch, Jake. Good luck wherever your path takes you. Trenners, a very special thankyou for your dogged determination. Thankyou for the love of the jumper. Thankyou for showing others how to apply and reapply yourself. I knew it would be a long bow getting back but you did. It hasn't panned out but not for any lack of effort. To all a thankyou. Mr Trengove , you have my utmost respect. Good luck.

  3. Thanks for the service boys and good luck. Especially Trengove - like most of the faithful I hoped for a fairytale ending to the foot saga, but it wasn't to be.

  4. Sad to see Jack Trengove's career with us end like this. Cruelled by injury, still did everything and more to try and get back, but wasn't to be. We'll never know what he could have been. Hard to see any AFL club picking him up, but has leadership and footy smarts. Too early for a coaching career, and still goes OK ... player-coach at a lower league? All the best Jack.

  5. Massive lol at anyone who thinks Weed will be traded. Was brought to the club with the knowledge that it'd take time to build his body. Has been on the list for two years. TWO!

  6. Then Petracca would want to have a consistent season, and not just patches of promise. Just a tad overrated on output thus far is Christian.

  9. Hes tracking beautifully. If he played for another team you and everyone else (yes including me), would be begging for the MFC to go hard at him. 19 disposals per game and 26 goals on the season in effectively his 2nd season. Compare his numbers at the same age to any of the big bodied superstar mids, and he either stacks up or easily has them covered. And none of them missed their first season with an ACL like Trac. If we dont pay him big $, there are 17 other teams that will.

  10. None of these departures come as a surprise, but the Trengove departure evokes a horrible sadness in me. A very, very good young footballer drafted to a total mess of a club, handed the captaincy by a nightmare of a coach, then mongrelled by a smallish long term injury. Footy clubs need good quality people and he is a ripper. I know his best is now only state standard, so I hope he finds a good footy life in the SANFL or VFL or some premium city/country league. All the best to a true Melbourne person whose best footy made me a fan. Thanks for your service, Jack.

  11. Shattered for Trenners. Showed so much promise and potential in his first couple of years. He left no stone unturned to try and forge his career after being ruined first by He Who Must Not Be Named and then crippled by that debilitating foot injury. from all accounts is a ripping bloke too. Best of luck to him, maybe his sister can get him a look in at athletics australia, could see him running marathons still. Would be great if the club could offer him a life membership despit not reaching the hundred game milestone

  12. Wish Trenners all the best and hope to see him return to SA and play for Sturt where it all began for him. If not for injuries he would have been a great player, at least he leaves as a great clubman.

  15. Sad end to the career of Trengove. His first few years were great and showed such promise, to the point he was made the youngest AFL captain in AFL history. He was neck and neck with Dustin Martin for the first few years, but then injuries ruined him. Supremely talented player, cross between Jimmy Bartel and James Hird. A friend of mine who's currently an assistant coach of another AFL club said he was viewed by most clubs as one of the best young talents in decades, leadership, skill, bravery, he was the full panache. Shame to see his body let him down and prevent him from fulfilling his potential. Thanks for all the hard work Trenners.

  17. I feel terrible about Jack Trengove. I hope he doesn't hold it against the MFC for what happened in his career, but I don't blame him if he does. Neeld was correct in one respect when he foolishly appointed him captain....he's an outstanding citizen and a leader of men. But not of a struggling club when he was only 20 yrs old! What terrible luck to sustain the dreaded navicular injury. How hard he tried to get back! I can't help feeling it was a bit rough dropping him in 2016 , after the Saints loss. Everyone played badly, but Jack had been really good the week before. This year, he didn't do well when he got his chance, but usually promoted players get more than one chance to show their wares. He went back to VFL, and played well every week, unlike some regular AFL players, who fail to shine at VFL level. Gold Coast would be well advised to draft him for his leadership, team spirit, and football skills. There is no ex-demon I'd ever hope to play well against us, except Jack T. All the very best, Jack, and thanks for the courage and perseverance, which has been an inspiratiion to many people.

  23. I don't know why Casey couldn't draft him as he is regularly one of the best each week at VFL level? If he could continue to play for the Casey Demons, off our list and salary cap, then hopefully he might participate in a Demon Premiership after all! Love to see him hold a Demon Premiership cup aloft and, at VFL level he is an out and out champ and no passenger! ?

  24. I hear why you're unsure, but if you look throughout the AFL you'll see that most teams who have running receiver types are players who aren't supposed to be sucked into the contest and win it at the coal face. It's not their role. Of course you want all players ideally to be able to win their own ball in one-on-one situations but Gaff's strengths are his overlap run and sheer gut running ability to provide both an attacking option and also be able to defend well. Hill, Scully, Gaff, MaCrae, Smith are all players who are so well suited to the wing due to their running ability. We don't have anyone who provides that sort of two-way running. We've been playing an inside mid with ordinary footskills in that role which was hurting us a lot.

  28. I knew that Trenners would probably get delisted but I still feel sad for the guy now it's confirmed. Foot injuries just wrecked him and at the time I was fine with him being captain but looking back now it shouldn't have happened. Thanks for busting your gut out for us and best of luck for your future.

  29. As supposed the leaving of Trengove is anything but unexpected. That he tenaciously clung to the opportunity and kept at it is just a testament to his self belief. I don't normally care much but this Lad showed extraordinary character. @Maldonboy38yes..its a bit sad.

  30. So sad to see Jack go. He fought so hard to come back and play. A testament to his dedication. Good luck, Jack. You'll always be a demon favourite. My favourite Jack moment was the tackle on Danger!

  31. Gaff is the player I hope Stretch would become - Stretch's year didn't promote that idea though. I agree that FA in 2018 would be the ideal way to get Gaff but if there's any chance this year then we should be prepared to pay the price.

  32. The Weid isn't worth much now as trade bait. With a big preseason he might come on next year or in 2019 (remember he's still very young) and be worth much to the team, either as a future MFC kpf or even in a trade. If he doesn't come on next year or in 2019 he won't be worth much in a trade and we're back to where we are now. My point is he's on our list and its worth continuing the development to see what becomes. Give him the time and development a tall, young player needs. There's a reason why TViney, Taylor and Roos wanted him.

  36. It's a big night for the VFL with the player awards culminating with the Liston Trophy for the league's B & F. Casey Demon's Development League player Goy Lok has won the last A. Todd Medal as that competition is ending with Sunday's grand final between Casey and Williamstown. Bayley Fritsch is the 2017 Fothergill Round Medal winner - for best potential young talent in the VFL. Most of the past winners have been drafted and Fritsch will be no exception. Daisy Pearce, Melissa Hickey, Lily Mithen, Richelle Cranston and Karen Paxman have all been named in the VFL Womens Team of the Year.

  37. To land a player of Levers talent you have to pay overs. $800 is as expected. If we want a Premiership and not to continue basking in medicrity we need Lever. Players such as Oliver, petracca and co know this and would accomodate such moves by the club

  38. Very sad to see Trenners go. He should be remembered as a terrific and loyal melbourne person. Accepted the big job with Grimsie when the the footie club was struggling. Poor form Neeld. But he has been a great support in the background building the stronger team culture. The others fffhew.

  40. F**k me... I think I'm going to check out till post trade week, the amount of threads on not required players is ridiculous. He's a poor mans Tyson

  41. In that game he was given a run and jump at every ball by a player who knows little about AFL football. Quite simply he isn't going to take those marks at AFL level and he needs to develop more strings to his bow. You sum it up, he is an old school forward which we don't want or need in the team. We need a forward who can play football the way it is played in todays day and age.

  42. If we're chasing quality like Lever and Gaff then for me there's a short list of untradeable players: Hogan, Jones, Petracca, Viney, Gawn, Oliver, Hibberd, T.McDonald, Hunt, Garlett, Jetta There's a much longer list of players without meaningful trade value: Lewis, Trengove, Garland, Pedersen, VDB, Vince, JKH, Weid, Hulett, Bugg, Spencer, King, Kennedy, Johnstone, T.Smith, McKenna, White, Wagner, Harmes, J.Smith, Keilty, Filipovic, Maynard Players that IMO have meaningful trade value are: Salem, Watts, Brayshaw, Tyson, Stretch, Kent, Frost, (Melksham), Hannan, O.McDonald, ANB I know it would be painful for some but for example I'd do: Brayshaw for Gaff 10 and any of the others for Lever and 35

  43. One good game out of a season is a clear concern. His lack of agility is his greatest weakness. Kennedy has great agility and showed that early on in his career. Anyway, the debate being put forward was not so much about Weideman himself but the concept that he may be dispensable with the view of getting extra trade value for that outside mid we need (assuming Lever in and Tmac KPF).

  44. As I said, the same could be asked about Kennedy during his first few seasons.. Some key forwards aren't flashy. Weed's is an old school big forward who flies hard for the ball and is generally pretty reliable in front of goal. If his first half against Box Hill didn't show you why he was rated so highly then I can't help you.

  45. I'm starting to think he's playing out of position at halfback- much like Melksham in the first quarter of the year. Hopefully if his thyroid is getting under control he can build a tank and move into the midfield full time. Think he could be a real weapon in there and forward of centre.

  46. I think the answer is somewhere in between being hysterical about the issue - and being completely dismissive (like many are). Obviously the club has been trying to teach Gus to enter contests in a strategic fashion (in order to minimize the chances of concussion). The reason why I say the answer is probably somewhere in between is because he did enter a contest and didn't get concussed, but the outcome wasn't exactly ideal either. He still has some work to do, and I think he would be the first to admit that. Given that he hasn't just pulled stumps and gone home (which is something many players may have done), I suspect that he is working hard to get his game right. I don't like the fact that Brayshaw is playing VFL, but at this point in his recovery, it wouldn't have been smart for the club to hold him back, and say "you cannot play". Because that would have been an admission by the club that it didn't have full confidence in its methodology (how to enter contests, etc). All recent events have taught us is that there is work to do on both sides. I am glad the club pulled Brayshaw out and got him scanned. He is playing under a lot of uncertainty now, and is in new territory. But he knows that and still wants to play, so I think as supporters we should back him in.

  48. Our depth is no where near as bad as a lot of you are making out to be, sure it could always improve but how about taking a realistic look at it rather then a knee-jerk reaction this entire site seems to be having after missing out on finals. 1) Melbourne had/has one of the longest injury lists out of any team this season, even though not a lot of those players were best 22, they were most definitely great depth players 2) A lot of those injured players would primarily have been playing VFL this season, yet Casey still managed to make it to a Semi-Final, where apart from 1 terrible quarter, nearly beat a team with almost a complete list of AFL listed players, and whose seniors look likely to be playing in the AFL Grand Final 3) The MFC passed on a lot of mature players last year, Dunn, Newton, Jones, Terlich, Michie, Grimes. Maybe not great at AFL level but definitely great VFL/Depth players, yet the VFL still made finals. 4) The whole team is still very young and in a development phase, it would have been nothing short of greatness to win a final this year. Just look at how many players in the best 22 are 25 years old or under, that is a huge upside. Maynard looks likely to get more senior games next year. JKH reminds me of Neal-Bullen last year, killed it in the VFL but did nothing at AFL level. Look at what ANB has done this year so don't write off JKH yet. Kennedy very unlucky not to get any games this season. Stretch is still developing. Johnstone hugely improved towards the end of the season. Keilty has been playing great footy. Tim Smith showed great signs before being injured. Weideman is only 20 years old!!! For a KPF he still has a long way to go but the way some of you are talking about him his driving me mad, Wagner has only been on the list 2 years don't forget, Kingy after coming off a big injury did some great ruck work this season, Joel Smith can play AFL, VDB and Mckenna got unlucky with injury. I'm probably missing some players but god dammit, you guys need to relax. 2018 will be a good year.
