  1. Goodwin on RSN this morning stated Gus had scans on his neck and all is clear. Good news. Also, interesting to hear Goodwin say Gus will end up as an inside mid for us when the question was put forward to him.

  7. Chris Scott should be replaced as coach. It won't happen, but it should. In 2011 Jeelong didn't need a coach, like Whorethorn in '88 Chris Scott has done nothing down the highway

  8. We've been down that road. Kochie is a tool. Bartlett played AFL and is wise enough to make very few public statements ,we hope.

  9. When the Chicago Blackhawks got swept in the first play-off series of the NHL last season the general manager of the organisation came out two days later and labelled the loss as unacceptable. He put the onus on the coaching group and players. A month later, young star players along with seasoned veterans were traded to other teams. Assistant coaches were also told to look elsewhere. I would like to see more of this in the AFL, our boss should have come out and expressed his disappointment at our finish and labelled it as unacceptable. There is no "good effort" in American sports and I love it. If you fail you get told you are not good enough. I don't mind the comments form Koch, yes they had a dip but it wasn't enough and he told them as such. Imagine Demonland if Tommy Bugg had kicked 5 points in an elimination final.

  11. Remember that ASADA only found out about Dank as they were tipped off by the Aus Crime Commission who were investigating organised crime and bikie gangs. This guy Dank appeared on their radar and the trail led to Essendon. The rest is history. (The ACC had plenty on the drugs used at EFC but for legal reasons ASADA couldn't use it and had to start their investigation from scratch ... after the shredding machines got burnt out from over use.) One day the ACC report may be tabled in parliament. I expect it will be eye opening. The gunshots fired into Dank's house? Strangely reminiscent of warnings given by crime/bikie gangs to other crims ...

  13. It's a big night for the VFL with the player awards culminating with the Liston Trophy for the league's B & F. Casey Demon's Development League player Goy Lok has won the last A. Todd Medal as that competition is ending with Sunday's grand final between Casey and Williamstown. Bayley Fritsch is the 2017 Fothergill Round Medal winner - for best potential young talent in the VFL. Most of the past winners have been drafted and Fritsch will be no exception. Daisy Pearce, Melissa Hickey, Lily Mithen, Richelle Cranston and Karen Paxman have all been named in the VFL Womens Team of the Year.

  14. Our depth is no where near as bad as a lot of you are making out to be, sure it could always improve but how about taking a realistic look at it rather then a knee-jerk reaction this entire site seems to be having after missing out on finals. 1) Melbourne had/has one of the longest injury lists out of any team this season, even though not a lot of those players were best 22, they were most definitely great depth players 2) A lot of those injured players would primarily have been playing VFL this season, yet Casey still managed to make it to a Semi-Final, where apart from 1 terrible quarter, nearly beat a team with almost a complete list of AFL listed players, and whose seniors look likely to be playing in the AFL Grand Final 3) The MFC passed on a lot of mature players last year, Dunn, Newton, Jones, Terlich, Michie, Grimes. Maybe not great at AFL level but definitely great VFL/Depth players, yet the VFL still made finals. 4) The whole team is still very young and in a development phase, it would have been nothing short of greatness to win a final this year. Just look at how many players in the best 22 are 25 years old or under, that is a huge upside. Maynard looks likely to get more senior games next year. JKH reminds me of Neal-Bullen last year, killed it in the VFL but did nothing at AFL level. Look at what ANB has done this year so don't write off JKH yet. Kennedy very unlucky not to get any games this season. Stretch is still developing. Johnstone hugely improved towards the end of the season. Keilty has been playing great footy. Tim Smith showed great signs before being injured. Weideman is only 20 years old!!! For a KPF he still has a long way to go but the way some of you are talking about him his driving me mad, Wagner has only been on the list 2 years don't forget, Kingy after coming off a big injury did some great ruck work this season, Joel Smith can play AFL, VDB and Mckenna got unlucky with injury. I'm probably missing some players but god dammit, you guys need to relax. 2018 will be a good year.

  15. The two Scott brothers: the most overrated senior coaches in the league, by the length of the Flemington straight. One brother has successfully driven North Melbourne into the ground with nothing to show for it, the other was gifted a premiership by Mark Thompson and has failed to capitalise since.

  19. I'm almost willing to put his comments down to being a frustrated, hurting, supporter. But then i think he's a [censored] of rhe first order. Watching that game, the Port players all tipped in, it was a furious game, you think Dixon wanted to kick 5 points, i didn't see too many passengers this is the sort of comment that when player are hurting would make them say F U ... if i was coach I'd be pi$$ed. Dude has a record of being a windsock just like Kennett.

  20. Actually we have had problems all season with our delivery into the forward line. Even when we were playing well and dominating other teams we weren't getting the scoreboard results that the general play would lead you to expect. It felt like we were often missing a link. Our forward structure is definitely still a work in progress. I can't help but think having Hogan as a lead up chf and someone like TMac in the square would be a better structure, potentially with watts on the wing receiving out of defence. We have also struggled with contested marks. Part of this could be attributed to having hoges out of the team for so much of the year as well as long stints without any proper ruck. It is interesting that Richmond have managed to make a forward line with only one tall work so well. Perhaps there is something to learn there.

  27. Goodwin should not be making comments at this time of the year as to who should be playing. He is dreaming like he did on many game day occasions if he thinks Menzel would have made a change. He played JHK for 3 games in a row when he averaged 3 possessions a game, great logic. Did not play B Kennedy and others once. BTW Cats got to 2nd of the ladder because of umpire calls at CAT OVAL (eg the Cats v Tiger and Cats vs Freo games).

  28. he has obviously never played any sport in his life, just because you're committed to a premiership doesn't mean you're gonna get one, what a stupid thing to say every footy player that ever played the game is committed to a premiership, if that's all it takes Nick Riewoldt would have 10.

  31. Given the game situation I'm not sure why people are having a go at Shuey. He played the situation perfectly, also a normal speed I can understand why the free was given. If that was any Dees player I would want him to do the same thing.

  34. Can see the argument both ways. My gut instinct at the time was that his comments were inappropriate. Were the players committed? Yes Did they play their guts out? Yes DId they make some skill errors/miss opportunities to win the game? Yes Were they unlucky to lose? Yes Would the players be hurting badly? Yes At the end of the day, they were beaten by 1 free kick. By an umpiring decision. I guess my feeling is that people don't respond to a roast, headmaster type tirade. The days of administrators and coaches bawling out their players is long over. It's almost personally insulting for it to be said or inferred that the players weren't sufficiently committed or weren't desperate enough. Sure they threw away opportunities to win the game but that's a different thing. If Charlie Dixon had kicked accurately they would have won. End of story. No different if Jessie Hogan had kicked 3 Goals, 5 points, missed a goal after the siren and we lost by 5 points. Koch was obviously angry post match but that's normal. He is also a publicist and egotist. Most of his working day, it's about him. He is a Jeff Kennett type that likes to blow his own trumpet and be in the limelight. Like Kennett, this behaviour does more harm than good. Did the players need a lecture from their President? I suspect not. Did the players need their coach to talk to them about their mistakes and missed opportunities ? Yes

  35. Weagles have an issue with their list in that Priddis, Butler, Petrie and Mitchell all retire and Le Cras is 31 Hurn and Kennedy already turned 30. That is 7 high quality players to replace this yaer and next. One of the oldest lists in the game and Gaff leaves next year as a FA. He has more currency this year in a trade and he wants to return home where next year the compensation is based on his contract terms. Roos always said that if he would consider trading a player out in the last year of his contract rather than go to free agency.

  38. Maybe that would be the best thing. Maybe no-one's ever told him that before. Maybe he has spent his whole life to now, over compensating by kicking big bags of goals, or performing karaoke in Manila pubs, and still be left with that empty hollow feeling. I think you *should* tell him you love him.

  39. I'm glad David Koch isn't our President! He has paid out big time on the players for losing last night. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/port-adelaide-chairman-david-koch-puts-power-players-on-notice-20170910-gyekx4.html This gives the tenor of his decree "If they're not prepared to win a premiership for this club, we basically don't want them. Let us know and we'll trade them”. Ouch! There are lots of reasons why they lost so a bit rough for players to hear that stuff straight after a heartbreaking game. Port take 'tough love' to a whole new level. Koch is making a habit of giving his coach, leaders and players a public dressing down but that stuff should stay private, in my book.

  47. Yes, Curnow will make most taken before him look 'inferior'. He should have gone higher but his indiscretion a few days before the draft saw him slide to pick 12. He was certainly on our radar for an earlier pick. As an aside it is worth noting that several clubs bypassed him as a tall forward/utillity. Essendon took Aaron Francis @ pick 6 who hasn't worked hard enough to be fit. Has played 5 games for 2 goals. Carlton took Harry McKay @ pick 10 (ie before Curnow). Has played 2 games for 2 goals. Brisbane took Josh Schache @ pick 2. Has played 27 games for 10 goals but is really struggling. Weideman compares very well to all three, especially in attitude and committment. Has played 10 games for 7 goals. He is showing the most progress and the best signs of succeeding. He may not become a star but I doubt he will be the dud of the talls in the top 10 of his year. I am confident we will look back on that draft and will be very happy with the players available at our picks: Oliver over Parish and Weideman over Francis and McKay.

  48. Pretty harsh comment on Pedo. He has a had a great year! Showed alot of ticker! He gives a consistent contest and holds his own. Would be a coaches favourite. He is only 30 and durable. Great work ethic and versatile! Pedo is my first picked at the selection table. You know what you are going to get from him. Just like Daniel Ward and Nathan 'Doggy' Brown when they were playing...
