  1. I have started to think that Bruce may have stopped commentating long ago and it's actually just an Bruce-algorithm AI commentator. "He just hasn't been Buddy tonight, but he will be" On Burgoyne: "He's the kind of player you had to see to know how good he was" Can't be a real person.

  3. The garbage in this thread doesn't sit well with me. Chris Connolly made some mistakes but had the best interests of your club at heart, and got strung up on trumped up charges just the same as your club did. Now it comes up again and we regurgitate and eat our own again. Sometimes I wish we had a stubborn, arrogant, pigheaded culture like the Bombers. We are not big enough to maintain all these grudges.

  4. Theres 5 games left, and we are fighting for finals. Nobody should miss games through being managed, but they can have light weeks on the track. What Oliver has done this year at his age without rest, bye round excluded, is remarkable.

  6. @Rodney (Balls) Grinter - 2 things: 1. If you buy a membership to Demonland the ads will disappear and @Nasher gets to buy a new server (it will make things so quick!) 2. The ads are 'smart' and by that I mean they will show you what they know you want to see based on your previous search history. Just before I had to log in a minute ago I had a look at the ads given to me and I saw Crust (ordered a pizza from there two weeks ago) and an ad for the specific computer I bought yesterday. So if you are seeing dating sites, don't blame Demonland! Search your cache, you know it to be true!

  9. I know Hawthorn winning would be good for us, but I just hate them so, so, so much I can't bring myself to barrack for them. It would be brilliant if they were put out for the year. HATE them. The umpiring is disgusting, in their favour, as bloody usual. Although when things go against them they are being their typical whiny selves. HATE THEM.

  11. Whatever he said remember this. We got absolutely reemed for something that other clubs also did. It was on the back of off the cuff comments by Brock McLean (the irony of his going to Carlton still gets me) and they ultimately didn't have proof of wrong doing, but they still needed to punish us. There was a lot of "list management" going on back then by clubs like us that were placed in the situation by the AFL. It was of their making. I don't blame Connolly and co for wanting to exploit it, much the same way Carlton did. Maybe they took the pi55 a bit, but I still think we were a scapegoat for something the AFL created. I think it should be a lottery for the top 4 picks between the bottom 4 teams. That way either way you get a great young talent, but it's not guarantee you get no 1 if you finish last.

  16. Top 9 playing lower 9, any slip up by top 9 teams will have major consequences come September. If Hawks and Saints lose they are out of the running. There's an intriguing contest for 8th spot with Dons, Weagles and Doggies all vying. Dons Vs Doggies a huge game for both clubs. Eagles be looking to build percentage vs Lions. A win to us keeps us clear of that mess. Similarly we're in a tussle with Port and Swans to move up to 5th or 6th and the prospect of a home final. Our percentage is way below both clubs so hoping for Saint to beat Port and Hawks to pinch it vs Swans. It has the feel of a congested horse race as they round the curve to the final straight, lots of possible moves and outcomes. Great season.

  17. In terms of personnel for tomorrow vs what we had in round 9 (I know some find this irrelevant but I like the comparison), we have changed a lot... OUT: Weideman, Pedersen, Jones, Vince, Wagner, Kent, & Bugg IN: Hogan, Gawn, ANB, Harmes, Melksham, Trengove & JKH Also the rampaging TMac is now up forward.

  18. I'd like one minor change where a basketball ring is suspended at the top of the goalposts. If you get it in (via kicking, of course) it's one million points. Other than that, and maybe trampolines in the forward 50, leave the damn rules alone.

  19. I am an interstate member from Tassie. So thrilled to be travelling from the north to Snowbart! Going to the game with my son. We have been to three games this year and Ds have won them all (so as good luck charms we will be there). Also coming with my grandson (fifth generation Ds supporter) who has never seen us beat North! (Son and I have fond memories of the '87 final.) Go Ds!

  20. Let me apologize up front because I'm going to get technical on this. In terms of longest streak over time it is: Hawks over Blues commenced 23 Jul 2005 Cats over Tigers commenced 6 May 2007 Kangaroos over Demons commenced 27 May 2007 But due to the way the AFL has "fixed" the fixturing over the years the longest streak in terms of games played is: Kangaroos over Demons 16 games (in 11 seasons) Hawks over Blues 14 games (in 13 seasons) Cats over Tigers 12 games (in 11 seasons). No matter which way the streak is viewed the Tigers website is wrong... But the way the media report it is incorrect because most people would assume it is presented in terms of time. NB: the way most people refer to it on this site is also technically incorrect, because we say Melbourne hasn't beaten Nth since 2006, whereas records are written in terms of when the winning streak commenced which wasn't until 2007.

  21. NORTHERN EXPOSURE by Whispering Jack If the late Jack Dyer were to describe the North Melbourne of 2017 he would no doubt call it "a good ordinary side". The Kangaroos started the season by losing the first five games on the trot before striking a purple patch during which they won four out of five (including a 10 goal thrashing of the Crows at Blundstone Arena and a hard fought 14 point victory over the Demons at the MCG). They then went on a downhill slide with a losing streak that now stands at seven games and sees them sitting equal last on the ladder, ahead only on percentage over the Brisbane Lions. A very ordinary record indeed, although Captain Blood would have seen some good in it because the Roos have lost five of their games by less than a goal. They are now embarking on what can been seen as a rebuilding process, dropping or resting some of their stars and bringing in youth. The cynics among us might call this "tanking". Melbourne, on the other hand, has been better than ordinary even if somewhat inconsistent so far this season. Part of the reason for the inconsistency has been put down to injuries and suspensions which have at times cut huge holes in the makeup of the team but, as we saw last week against Port Adelaide, when the A team is on the park it can compete with any other in the AFL. Which brings us to the Demons' own losing streak of 16 straight games against the Kangaroos that stretches all of the way back to 2006 when a young Nathan Jones was just finding his way in the game. North has been good over most of that time and I would suggest that those wins were not really due to some magical advantage over Melbourne. Hoodoos and losing streaks only reflect this club's woeful standing over the past decade - it lost more often than not because it had inferior teams. As we've seen over the course of this season, that is no longer the case. Melbourne is on course for September action while North Melbourne is heading in the opposite direction. The Kangaroos won their first ten matches last year including an early one where they eventually fell in against Melbourne at Blundstone Arena. They barely hung on to make the finals from which they made a quick exit. In 2017 they have been exposed like the emperor and his non-existent new clothes. Their cupboard is bare and I expect the Demons will also expose the so-called North Melbourne "hoodoo" this week in the same vein as the Hans Christian Anderson fable taught us that sometimes the things people believe in are nothing more than a myth. THE GAME Melbourne v North Melbourne on Saturday 29 July, 2017 at Blundstone Arena at 1.45pm HEAD TO HEAD Overall North Melbourne 80 wins, Melbourne 83 wins 1 draw At Blundstone Arena North Melbourne 1 win, Melbourne 0 wins Last five times North Melbourne 5 wins, Melbourne 0 wins The Coaches Scott 1 win, Goodwin 0 wins MEDIA TV - Fox Footy Channel live at 1.45pm RADIO - TBA THE BETTING North Melbourne to win $2.85, Melbourne to win $1.43 THE LAST TIME THEY MET North Melbourne 15.14.104 defeated Melbourne 13.12.90 at the MCG in Round 9 2017 The Demons started slowly and were 26 points down at the first break before closing to within two points at half time. North controlled the third term but Melbourne's again fought back to narrow the margin to two points midway through the last quarter before North kicked away. Todd Goldstein set up the win dominating the rucks with 61 hit outs. THE TEAMS NORTH MELBOURNE B: Sam Durdin, Robbie Tarrant, Daniel Nielson HB: Aaron Mullett, Scott D. No sooner had the Roos made their decision to drop former All Australian ruckman Todd Goldstein and rest skipper Jack Ziebell for last week's Essendon clash, than some segments of the media started raising eyebrows and when Robbie Tarrant was a late withdrawal, that was sufficient evidence for the commentariat that a conspiracy was on foot with the aim of securing soon to be out of contract GWS midfielder Josh Kelly. That sort of thinking is all too common in AFL circles and while it fills newspaper space and time on radio and television, it doesn't reflect reality. It dismisses the fact that North made a good fist of things and in fact led the Bombers until deep into the third quarter before the young side ran out of steam late in the game and it denies the club the right to blood young players late in a season when all hopes of playing finals have gone. The Kangaroos have dominated the Demons for over a decade and they will be jealously guarding their record, particularly in front of the people of Hobart who they dearly want to bring into their fold. For this game, they have brought back Ziebell and Tarrant along with ruckman Braydon Preuss who many at North consider a better ruckman than Goldstein. Three youngsters go out of the side and the changes automatically give the "home" side a much better look. With the weather likely to be a factor (showers are predicted), anyone who really thinks that North are tanking has another thing coming - this week looms as a real danger game. Melbourne did fade last week after its opening blitz saw it go to a 44 point lead late in the second quarter and with four players returning from injury, this might be understandable The Roos will be coming into the game with the mindset that they can beat the Demons having prevailed earlier in the year on the MCG when despite losing the disposal count, clearances and contested possessions, they managed to prevail. However, back then they had Goldstein winning in the ruck and key forwards Ben Brown and Mason Wood booting eight goals between them. On Saturday, Goldstein and Wood will not be on the field and the cynics might also add that North is unlikely to be the beneficiary of a free kick count like the 22-10 that gave them the advantage of almost an extra player. Earlier this season they had a big victory over Adelaide when the windy conditions played havoc with the game at Blundstone Arena but they have also lost this year at the venue where they once reigned supreme with eight consecutive victories from 2013-16. The end of another winning run is now on the cards against the Demons who have been strong in the clearances and contested-possession rankings all season and, with so much at stake, I expect their long running series of losses to become yet another part of history for the club on Saturday night. Melbourne by 25 points.

  25. We're here (staying Battery Point ) got off the plane and thought it was barmy, yes I'm from Ballarat. Every Tasmanian we have spoken to has been a supporter of another Vic team other than Nought. They all said they hope the Dees win. Went to happy hour at Pearl (same building as Mures on the wharf) and had a couple of lovely seafood dishes and frothies. Saw at least another 10 Dees supporters. I think there will be a very good fan base at the game. We booked everything a few days after the Nought loss coz I wanted to yell at the *hits again. We bought tickets in the Boon stand undercover, cost around $60 a ticket. Some of the people at the happy hour are sitting in the same stand

  33. The AFL haven't even got round 23 settled this year because they need to wait to see what the ladder could potentially be. Imagine the issues around trying to get round 18 sorted out under this model . They'd have to allow for teams that would have 6 day breaks, travel, hotels etc like you mentioned and they'd have from Sunday night to do all that by say Tuesday to give enough time for teams/supporters to get organised. Surely this is the season that they can look at and go "it's not broken, why the F do we have to try and fix it?". Maybe they just need to give their people something to do so they stop shagging the support staff?

  40. NFL for me has become one of my favourite sports to watch (as a whole) ... it's right up there with Test Cricket but It's probably the only sport (NFL) where I have a really keen interest from week 1 to the Super Bowl. Most other sports I tune in and out of or the interest is primarily the finals/playoffs or major events like the Olympics/Tour de France or Golf & Tennis majors. The big impact with the NFL is how things can change dramatically from week-to-week. The division/conference/playoff set-up is second to none with regards to maintaining interest and there are just a stack of storylines (and that's week to week as well) It's a sport where it's so much more than just about your own team (well, that's how I view the sport anyway) I'm not sure @JV7 can bear to click on the following link ...
