  1. Video is finished and uploaded. I haven't ranked them in order as that is a just about impossible task. So many great goals missed out, but thanks again for your help and suggestions. Enjoy.

  3. I have been told Hogan is playing QB. Also Gawn desperate to play. Has put his hand up, but club want to hold him back until R13.

  4. The banter on GNF is beyond boring these days. I just choose to go with believing him if it's something I want to hear, and ignoring him if it's not. I believe you, GNF.

  5. I did the ladder predictor 'on gut feeling' game by game and end up with us finishing in 5th, playing St Kilda (8th) in an elimination final. Which we will win after Fraser Gehrig gets crunched trying to run around Nathan Carrol. My result is clearly accurate because I've also got Richmond having a late season fade-out to finish 9th, on percentage.

  10. Elliott strikes me as a really good kid. So much talent crippled by injuries.

  11. Mitch Gent ices the game with a goal that takes Casey's lead out to 23 points at the 27 minute mark. He's been struggling in this game. Started forward but couldn't hold on to his grabs. Playing a bit better further downfield but won't get a promotion on today's efforts.

  14. Well, he`s not wrong to be honest re lack of success, but yes this sort of comment will be banked by Goody. Funnily enough, I`ve seen Dunn at 3 Dees games watching his mates this year, he still loves the Dees, probably more so than The PIes!

  16. You'd only run a player of Hogan's calibre at Casey if he'd been out a long time and was badly out of condition, so you had doubts over his ability to run out a game. Hogan had a huge preseason, was in prime condition at the beginning of the season and has only been out a few weeks. He can find his touch in the ones. If he's feeling as fresh as I'm hoping, it won't take long.

  17. Agree, they have gone better than I expected but luck has been on their side with an injury free list and game day injuries to opponents, notably us helping to get them over the line. Also agree with your earlier points on GWS... I think we have had the biggest problem with injuries this year. Whilst the pure numbers don't rack up like the GWS list we have 2 of our most critical players (Hogan, Gawn) missing from action. No other team comes close. Last year it was Freo who had 2 of their most critical players missing, Sandi & Fyfe and see where they finished up. Even the Doggies last year, I'm not sure they had 2 critical players out at any stage but stand to be corrected on that one. None of the GWS players are in their critical player list but if you take out 2 of Mummy, Davis or Cameron (maybe Kelly) then you start to get a problem. I don't think we or Goodwin have been given enough credit for this years performances, not only are we still winning games but despite what some here and the outside football world may think we have been very consistent. We're one of the few if any side yet to be smashed by any opposition this year and we've been in every game we've played. Our % with our win loss reveals this to be true.

  19. My calculations indicate that to achieve this we will have to win 2 in a row at least once!!

  23. Wow, a few key Collingwood players could be out! A chance to maybe move up to sixth in our marquee game? What can go wrong? We don't ever let these kind of opportunities slip.

  24. Maybe that's why Dunn loves being there, he's in his comfort zone.

  25. He'll play if he gets through training... well no [censored]? As if that wasn't always going to be the case. And if he doesn't play: GNF "late mail was he didn't make it through training"

  26. Perfect result. Pies win, ensuring all the nuffies will turn up next week and Freo begin their slide down the ladder…but they injure half their side doing it.

  28. Just back from a very pleasant afternoon at the Courg Oval. For the hipsters they have craft beer and for the traditionalists the Coburg sponsors include the ETU and the CFMEU. Game from a Demons viewpoint was scrappy with the on ball strength of Casey finally holding sway against the Coburg Lions. Some of the best play was from the Lions while Casey seemed hard pressed to get the last handball into space. I watched Weideman closely. For the first half he played deep forward and was disappointing. Delivery was nothing spectacular but even when he had a one on one marking comp he never really looked like it. Very little leading on his part and often pushed under the ball. In the second half he was on the ball where he got a few kicks. More worrying was his missed marks in the midfield. On these occasions and in particular one midway through the last quarter he had position and hands to the ball in a small pack but could not hold on. He's not coming back soon. Hulett if anything was more impressive with a little more bulk and a seemingly better ability to be in the right place for the ball. I watched for Stretch in hope of seeing some dashing play but it was not obvious. I'll post some more observations later but all in all a pleasant day that ended with a win.

  30. Agreed. Gawn and Hogan are our two most important players structurally. How would Richmond have faired missing Riewoldt and Rance for the bulk of their season ?

  34. Trouble is, so far, our best is only 1-2 quarters a game. There is a huge difference between "should be" and "is"! Until that is addressed by the playing group we will remain marginal.

  37. Feel sorry for Trenners but it is a tough caper filled with spent bodies. Only the gifted and the lucky make it. Despite his lack of speed, Trenners has footy smarts. I still feel he should be given a go. But he needs a couple of consecutive games to show his stuff. But it looks unlikely. Would hope that there is good and honest communication going on between coaches and Trenners. He deserves honesty, because he has been a great club man.

  38. I'd be more impressed if he went out and grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, scored a goal, created a few more, generally revved up his team mates and dragged them over the line. Or died in the attempt. The kind of thing that Danger, Kelly, Grey, etc, might have done. Instead he jumper punched a plate of food. (It's a one percenter that doesn't show up on the stats sheet.) Then probably pointed at the broom cupboard and yelled at his team mates telling them how to hold the mop.

  39. This is a marvelous piece by the one and only Martin Flanagan who is a favourite around here. 'The invisible connect that binds': a football club reunion 40 years on I've chosen it for its wonderful story about football and family and great values that it describes and it's also relevant for its connection with MND which former Melbourne Football Club coach is suffering and working to find a cure. It's also about the Springvale Football Club which is now virtually defunct having rebranded and moved to Casey Fields in 2006 and now no longer known as the Scorpions. When Springvale won that premiership in 1977 it was in the old Federal League. The club joined the VFA in 1982. They are now known as the MFC-affiliated Casey Demons but very few vestiges of the past club remain. WJ remarked after their last win a fortnight ago the team sang "Its a Grand Old Flag", not the old Scorpions song. When the veterans of that 1977 grand final are gone, there will be no one to celebrate the Springvale Football Club.

  45. Seems a bit early to predict? West Coke has a hard run in with really patchy form. I'm still hoping for a fade away and a 9th finish, so I'm more than happy not to see them in the finals (provided we are the ones in the finals!)

  46. What would enhance Melbourne's finals chances would be to play four quarters every week. Getti g tired of depending in others: fate helps those who help themselves.

  48. Watched the Giants match on Foxtel and nearly threw the console at the screen. Dwayne Russell is such and embarrassment commentating. His barracking for the druggies was to the point of sickening. Why do they persist with him I'll never know.

  49. I don't think that's the point Nasher. I don't expect he would have. I think the issue is that he was universally considered worthy of a very high draft pick, and is now considered one of the best players in the league, and BP didn't properly consider him at all. He went pick 3 and we had the first two picks. Not speaking to him wreaks of arrogance and, with the benefit of hindsight, absolute incompetence/negligence.

  50. Great memories. I grew up with WOS as mandatory viewing every Sunday morning, without fail. Was a real institution! Although, I often got impatient with all the non-footy bits, just wanting them to get to the important stuff (the footy!) Thanks for the memories, jack!
