  1. I'm in favour of it. Send the buggers there and cancel their passports while they are over there.

  2. The biggest hit Goddard's put on this year was against a plate of chips...

  3. Unfortunately for Jack, his position as a 5th midfielder role as occupied by Dom Tyson. Jack would be the perfect mid if Tyson/Lewis got injured. Jack is a high quality young man. His injury was a cruel setback. He played 80 games in his first 4 years (aged 19 to 22), and was a premier midfielder. His injury in 2014 was another MFC curse. Without complaints, he plays with all his heart at Casey and IS A LEADER at that level this year. I can see another club taking a free hit if Jack was delisted, most likely Adelaide or even the Hawks. But a return to Sturt in SANFL is on the cards. I do hope we see Jack back on the MCG even if he gets just one more opportunity. He is a great clubman.

  4. It's hard to believe for those of us who were around back in the day, that 1987 marks 30 years since the demise of World of Sport, an iconic programme which began in the early days of television in this country and was a viewing must for so many of us every Sunday morning. There characters were larger than life, mainly lovable and with the recent passing of Lou Richards, most of them are no longer with us. Here's a piece from the very last show ~

  8. This is a marvelous piece by the one and only Martin Flanagan who is a favourite around here. 'The invisible connect that binds': a football club reunion 40 years on I've chosen it for its wonderful story about football and family and great values that it describes and it's also relevant for its connection with MND which former Melbourne Football Club coach is suffering and working to find a cure. It's also about the Springvale Football Club which is now virtually defunct having rebranded and moved to Casey Fields in 2006 and now no longer known as the Scorpions. When Springvale won that premiership in 1977 it was in the old Federal League. The club joined the VFA in 1982. They are now known as the MFC-affiliated Casey Demons but very few vestiges of the past club remain. WJ remarked after their last win a fortnight ago the team sang "Its a Grand Old Flag", not the old Scorpions song. When the veterans of that 1977 grand final are gone, there will be no one to celebrate the Springvale Football Club.

  9. Smashing a plate of chips or whatever is the poor man's passion and leadership. Any idiot can take the easy way out and show pretend passion like that. Doesn't give him any points with me.

  10. Wonderful country India, and wonderful people. Despite what people say about the food and illness, I have never had the problem despite spending a lot of time travelling in India and living in basic accommodation. Concrete floors and little or no running water. I follow a few rules. 1/ Don't drink the water unless boiled. Even the most remote parts of India, there is bottled water. 2/ Don't eat salads or anything that is washed in water before consuming. Many folks get sick from eating salads even in high priced hotels. 3/ Don't eat meat. It is very hard to get sick eating vegetarian food. Avoid milk and dairy. 4/ Only eat cooked food that you can see being cooked. That's where street food can be okay, as it is freshly cooked on the spot. Despite this, I tend to avoid street stalls and eat in temples or cheap restaurants/cafes. The reality is there little interest in sport, outside cricket and hockey. And compared to our standards, they are not big from a spectator/attendance viewpoint. Most Indians work so hard and long they have little time for discretionary activities such as sport, and have even less discretionary income/spending. For most Indians, the thought of buying a ticket to watch a sporting even does not enter their consciousness. Sure there are an increasing number of millionaires and wealthy Indians, but again most of them don't think of sport as we do.

  11. I bet you have a craving for chillies now though. I visited Mumbai a few years ago, a real eye opener it was. Homeless lined the streets, beggars everywhere. Or was that Flinders Street station? I get confused easily.

  12. West Coast's final play from Wright's behind was as bad as anything Richmond did in its close losses. Around one minute to go, Hurn kicks short to Mitchell. Mitchell uses up 10 seconds or so then kicks short to the boundary line. Hill then rushes the kick down the line straight to GC's best mark, Tom Lynch. Eagles without Kennedy are just an average side at best (even with him they're not that good).

  14. Spoke to JT at the family day this week and he is such a nice guy, he really deserves some luck and a chance to show if he can still play footy at the top level. The early Captaincy of he and Grimes was poison to their careers.

  20. Well done GOld Coast - my hate for West Coast is boundless. Want nothing more than to see them crash and burn out of the 8. And now for GWS to dismantle Essendrug.

  21. Gold Coast knocking off the Eagles would be great... a win on QB and we would leapfrog West Coast (and maybe another couple of teams) and jump up into the 8.

  25. I don't think that's the point Nasher. I don't expect he would have. I think the issue is that he was universally considered worthy of a very high draft pick, and is now considered one of the best players in the league, and BP didn't properly consider him at all. He went pick 3 and we had the first two picks. Not speaking to him wreaks of arrogance and, with the benefit of hindsight, absolute incompetence/negligence.

  26. It's a complete Junket. Gill has learnt well from Demetriou. $pend as much as you can whilst in office, and change as many rules as possible so the Broadcasters can cram in more advert breaks

  27. Hindsight; I remember the received opinion at the time was it was Scully and Trengove as the 1&2 picks and the order could have gone either way. There was acknowledgement that Martin was good but the other 2 were better. Yes we missed a chance but at the time it would have been seen as a brave move. Wines on the other hand was more of a genuine miss in my opinion.

  32. He probably won't line up down back, but I posted this re Weideman last Tuesday in the Steven May thread, "Also, Weideman is also struggling, but he's a smart footballer with good hands. I'd give him a crack in defence at Casey and see how he goes. It only has to be for this season, but he may prove his worth as a defender and be a viable option at AFL level later in the year."

  33. Don't worry about that, 17 clubs passed on him a few years ago, when he was offered up as a trade after a few years with the Tigers, at a fraction of what he will get next year and is currently getting.

  35. Very strange times they were. Why was Trengove played weekly for almost 2 years with a severe injury, that we could all see. He never had pace, but it was just so wrong to see a young kid flogged each week when he was "lame" Dark Days. I just wish Jack himself had said " i can't keep doing this" at an earlier point. Was it Political? (as he had been named Captain, another ridiculous decision...?) he got 2 games last year, which is 2 more than i thought he would. His career was over in 2013. You do not keep racing an injured horse...

  41. Scully and Trengove were the obvious 1-2, so I'm not going to hang BP out for that. Where we seemed to go wrong was the amount of picks in the teens we butchered through the years. So many nearly players who just didn't cut it in the bad environment of the time e.g. Gysberts, Tapscott, Strauss, Blease etc.

  46. I know it's not practical from a preparation and fixturing perspective but this is a situation where some flexibility in the scheduling of matches would be handy. This should be a Friday night game. The Saints can play the Kangas in the who cares Sunday 3:20pm timeslot.
