  1. Was just mentioned on SEN that Hurley is 50/50 to be at Essendon and Melbourne is a massive chance due to the Simon Goodwin relationship.. Giddy up!

  2. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-05-16/rivals-circle-free-agent-demon-defender-neville-jetta Apparently sparking a bit of interest outside the club. Doesn't strike me as very likely to leave - I expect the club values him greatly and he will get an offer accordingly, and he seems to me to be a particularly loyal person. I reckon he will want to be a part of what is to come. It's definitely been an amazing career turnaround, and just goes to show what can be done with some struggling players with a decent system around them. He's become one of our most consistent players and definitely a personal favourite of mine.

  4. That is a pretty cheap shot. Jack was terrible for 2.5 quarters but you could see him trying to work his way into the game. The turning point for me was when he ran around the man on the mark and delivered to Hogan. He was visibly trying to lift the side. He has his shortcomings, Jack, but he did what good players do and worked hard to try and impact the game in the end. Calling his goals junk time I think shows a poor awareness of where the players thought the game was poised at the time.

  6. The Jack Watts of the past would have lay down low for the rest of the game and do northing. Fought the game out and was still trying to rev the boys up in the last qtr. Hes getting there.

  8. Wow......What a statement that is.......Much better to trade a 100 game player that is starting to become the player we wanted for a pimpley face 18 year old who will need at least 3 years. Give me a break.

  9. Only player to kick the ball to the advantage of Hogan and not on his head.

  15. Surely trolling. Watts is playing career best footy, we are stricken for quality tall forwards and he has never played finals. Your logic is breathtaking.

  16. do we all know that ? do we ? How about we make the finals first and then worry about who will and won't stand up.

  17. 25 disposals 12 intercepts 11 marks 1 goal 4 score involvements 7 pressure acts 6 intercept marks 99 pts for supercoach which subtracts points for clangers 88% DE Yeah lets drop him Bloody useless

  18. How on earth did you reach that conclusion ? Roos took a list that was bereft of talent, gutted it and started again. Beveridge took a list that had talent and has it improved it and are playing really good football. Two clubs that started from different places and are now in two different places.

  19. I'll be dissapointd if Jetta goes. Hacing watched the replay o it, Bont comes up behind him and Jetts action is to shrug him off. Yeah he shrugs hard and contacts Bonts jaw with his elbow, but it is reasonable for Jetta to expect that opposing players don't come up and try and grab you from behind, which is what Bont did.

  20. Luke Beveridge seems like a good coach and they are certainly playing for him, but I really can't stand him. His comments on the Essendon saga were absolutely baffling, and his comments about Adelaide last week were pretty ordinary as well.

  21. Diamond defence didn't work on the weekend maybe a rhombus defence next time. Seems a very risky strategy that will result in a scoring chance nearly every time we lose a centre clearance.

  22. If watts got a dollar for every time he was burnt by someone he could double his salary

  23. I actually think he will. We won't know for sure until it happens, but the way he got himself back into the game on Sunday to me shows that he's over whatever mental demons he might have previously had. In fact I wish more of his team mates lifted in the second half as he did.

  24. Too harsh, he presented well did some gut running and got burnt a number of occasions and some of his i50 kicks were first class, took plenty on marks and was outnumbered at the contest consistantly like all our forwards. Every time the ball hit the ground in the forward half, we were going to be in trouble. Their zone is exaclty the same as ours and they execute it well. You're right that his goals were in junk time but it was deserving of his effort for the day. Lets face it if it wasnt for his past years there wouldnt even be a discussion.

  25. i don't see yesterdays performance as a disaster, we were outclassed by a better team the next in line for me is clearly ANB, i'd also like to see us get some games into Oscar so Out: Vince, Garland In: ANB and Mcdonald ( I think Vince might get a week due to his poor record.)

  26. Everyone thought Carlton would struggle to win a game too. Everyone thought Freo would be top 4. Everyone said Collingwood have a good list and will be on the up and up. Everyone is wrong about everything.

  27. 10 kicks 9 marks 17 disposals 4 shots at goal. you are dreaming if you think that he will be dropped

  28. Thought Michie was quite good and ahead of Hunt and Wagner. Finally accept Garland is finished. Pederson also may well make way for Dawes. ANB must come in surely.

  29. That was the least intentional action you will ever see. Bontempelli came at him from the periphery. Jetta's reaction was to fend him off. Jetta gets smacked in the head weekly & can't buy a free kick. Two weeks for that it BS. Even worse, to be graded the same as Boyd's hit is ridiculous. Guess Tommy Bugg needs some acting lessons. Didn't even rate a free.

  30. Hope the Dogs enjoy playing GWS without Boyd and Redpath.

  31. I doubt there will be that many changes. I very much doubt that Hunt, Wagner or Harmes will be dropped unless they are "managed". We are trying to build a defence that understands the new game plan and understands each other. Yesterday we played a better team that found us out and this week we come up against a team that allows us to continue the education in a less difficult environment. If players are going to be dropped I think it will be the experienced players who are fringe. Garland, Michie, Bugg and Pedersen perhaps. I think that given Gawn looks exhaused it's quite possible Spencer comes in. For all Roos said Oscar McDonald was underdone I've seen him from Essendon on and he's looking good to me. I'm also not sold on Bugg. He's a bit of a flat track bully for mine and he struggles to produce good performances against good teams. He is hard but he rarely hurts the opposition and often mucks it up. And being hard shouldn't get you in the team, it should be mandatory for his type of player. I think he'll let you down (skill wise) when it matters and the last 20 seconds of the game against NM is an example. The kick to Stretch wasn't difficult. To some degree the FD need to decide what the footy team looks like going forward and keep to that team primarily. Next year when we play I want Harmes, Hunt, Wagner, Petracca, Oliver, Gawn, Stretch, Hogan, Brayshaw, AVB and Salem to have as much experience as possible so they get some slack. ANB and Trengove also need to be given a good run at it to see where they fit. I've also seen Weideman and Hulett. Neither are ready IMO but Hulett would be in front of the Weed for mine. Also I'm a big fan of Jack Grimes but I just can't see the point of giving him games when his papers are so obviously marked. Dunn and Garland seem to be in the same boat and Garland's contract extension now looks wrong. For all I want to win this year is really about next year.

  32. Short memory. Our very own Neville Jetta missed 4 weeks last season with a similar issue to Brayshaw.

  34. A good reflection of where we're at. The Bulldogs led by the likes of Liberatore and Hunter were exceptional at pressure acts at stoppages. The Bont was class too in close. we met our match at the stoppages and their midfield is more polished at this stage. Effort was definitely there, we just have to become more experienced, more polished and slick. They're definitely top 4 material and a premiership chance. We're still on the wanting consistency path. It will be an interesting build up to the Brisbane game this week. Effort levels will need to be on the rise to confront a Brisbane outfit who were severely stung at home.

  35. Roos also turfed half the team he inherited. I think that says plenty about the confidence he had in the list. You can't compare the two really. The legwork had been done for Beveridge; Roos started from scratch. A better comparison for Beveridge will be Goodwin 2017.

  37. Geez .....with that analysis would expect a scoreboard of 100 point loss !!

  38. It's not Garland's fault! The fault lies with selectors who picked a defence which was simply too short. To see Redpath marking over Michie or Roughead over Jetta is just absurd. i said last week that a defence including all of Jetta, Hunt, Wagner and Salem is just too small. Don't tell me Redpath would gave taken all those marks against Dunn who would have played him body to body.

  39. I'm going to be hounded... Tom McDonald is a long way off being an AFL standard KPB. He can't kick, and he rarely splits packs to spoil or mark. He floats across in uncontested situations, and tries to take the game on (don't blame effort) yet regularly turns it over. He is not an attacking player, his job first and foremost is to DEFEND. if you can't kick in 2016, regardless of position, you're not going to cut it - you must know your limitations and handball to those who can dispose efficiently eg. Dale Morris, who has made a career out of knowing his limitations and knowing his role: defend and give to those who are better. I think he has a lot of currency if we were looking to trade out. Young, i know - but he is not the AA material many in the media and on this site think he is. I would be throwing the cheque book at Michael Hurley

  40. Hogan, Watts, Weideman and Hulett are the now and future tall forwards. Why the hell they persist with Frost in the forward line when he plays seniors is mind boggling. He was drafted as a defender with the view that we were thin on stocks in that area. With both Dunn and Garland losing form at an alarming rate, I would love to know why the coaches persist with the Frost forward plan.

  42. Can't fault the effort of the players. They had a dip all day. We were just beaten by a side who ran just that extra bit harder and used the ball better going forward. Some of our younger players, like Hunt, Wagner, Oliver, Harmes and Salem probably didn't give us enough, while some of their younger players did. That's life. We'll learn from it. 5 goals is a fair reflection of the game, really. In terms of our defence, which people seem to be fixated on - remember that our midfield turnovers hurt us in that regard. I agree that it needs tweaking, but it needs pressure up the ground and good ball use to function at it's optimum level. We clearly didn't get that today. One last thing - really pleased with the game from Stretch today. Thought he was excellent. Bring on next week.

  43. Why do you think that? We were ordinary today, but I can't see where they should have scored anymore than they did, where am I wrong? I thought the margin was about right.

  44. The MRP will be well aware of that. They will do what they do each week for each incident: take into consideration all aspects of the clash, apply their expertise and, bearing in mind their high level of responsibility and duty to the game, spin the chooklotto wheel.

  45. Ash, your comment around the tour de france not being relevant (I am paraphrasing there) shows something that really bugs me with most of the AFL community. Every other sport under WADA and every precedent set is relevant if we wish the AFL to be taken seriously. So many people seem to think this is just the AFL and we should treat it as such and ignore what the rest of the world is doing. That is crap! What the AFL should have done and should be doing is deferring to the WADA code at all points and relying on the precedents set around the world. That is what is best for the game long term. What they do now is try and hide everything to protect the brand, they just don't realise that everyone who takes this seriously laughs at them and they now have zero credibility. That does long term damage. The whole illicit drug policy is a joke and should be dumped, especially when half the illicit drugs are WADA banned but the AFL wont tell ASADA the results. Laughable.

  46. I don't wish to complain about Garland anymore. My mind was made up a while ago and unfortunately nothing has changed. I wasn't able to see any of today's game so I can't comment on individual performance etc. But what I can say from viewing comments on today's game and from my own eyes throughout this season is this: The fact that Garland and Dunn have been in and out of the team, the leadership group and form in general has been the catalyst for the completely dysfunctional back-line we see today. Of that, I'm certain.
