  2. I'm not normally the vindictive sort, but I would smirk if Frawley was dropped for Spangher.

  3. The same Port Adelaide that had to put tarps over their empty seats 2 years ago and were starting to roll them out as they crashed back to earth this year? How about Ryan Griffen leaving a small club and going to a smaller one, and the big dopey idiot that swapped places with him? You're a smug faced bag of shoit, Dwayne. We know you're reading this.

  5. Not important enough to worry about. As an Age Journalist he is listed in Wiki as the 4th ranked football writer (before he was moved on). I think they may have had 5 footy writers then. My colon produces more profound ideas than Dwayne.

  8. Ha ha from his Wikipedia page.... Russell unsuccessfully applied for a journalism cadetship in Adelaide in 1984 before starting a journalism career in Geelong in 1989 There's a reason he was knocked back. He writes like a 2yo.....

  9. Maybe because his leadership, commitment, loyalty and attitude have been nothing short of inspirational during the time of his injury and whether he makes it back or not being more like Jack Trengove is something every person should aspire to be. I know you won't understand that, Jacks signed a one year deal, for peanuts to try and resurrect his AFL career, knowing one more setback and he's done, he is absolutely 0 risk, huge upside if he does get him right because at his best he is absolutely best 22 with strong scope to grow into a very good player and he offers us more even when he isn't playing than half the blokes on our list. If anyones heart beats true, it's Trenners.

  10. Can't read any more of this (insert Irish word for excrement) without offering an opinion... MFC can not get whoever is available (for so many obvious reasons I do not have to list!) Jake Melksham would be comfortable playing for Bombers if they offered more than is on the table (and they probably will) He is a better AFL player than 13 players that are on our list at the moment! If we are his second choice for a three year deal then count our blessings in a cut-throat, fire-sale period... depending n what we have to give up to secure him. THAT IS THE CRUX OF THE MATTER... What do we have to give up? Anyone who is shooting from the hip about his worth should do no more than watch his most recent game... if you have the time. I already know that Jake has the character and motivation to be a very worthwhile addition to our list. The denigration here of his ability and achievement to date is pathetic.

  12. We know how keen Roos is to get serious talent into the side - as much as it's annoying that we may not be chasing Bennell, on the flip side it means the club believes that he is not the right person to bring in to the culture and standards we are setting. It's hard to argue with that.

  14. James Frawley is just another in a long string of recent Melbourne players who thought success would just come to them. People always talk about those players getting "Melbourne'd"; but in reality it was Melbourne that got screwed over by the Moloney, Frawley, Morton, Blease, Maric, etc mindset. Not to mention "blueprint basecamp" Schwab. What few players of that ilk are still at this club have had their brains so scrambled by our lack of success that they now believe that no amount of hard work will result in success. I won't name names because those players are still on our list, but hopefully it won't be long until they're all gone.

  15. Just putting out some love for jack. His breakout year has somewhat gone under the radar given hogan and other youngsters coming up but he was unbelievable this year and it's been highlighted now with almost winning the BnF off 16 games! He hasn't even played 50 games yet! We have an absolute beauty here and I believe he will lead us to success. Some stats: No 1 average tackles. 6.6 - next highest vince with 4.8 No 1 ave contested possessions. 12.1 - next highest vince 10.2 No 1 ave clearances 5.6. - next vince 5.2 No 1 ave centre clearances 2.4. Next jones 1.5 Another preseason and a full 22+ games next year and watch out! I'm confident he will become a genuine A grader. With confidence his disposal will continue to improve.

  16. Hasn't bothered Shaun Higgins or Eddie Betts. Its nothing to do with Free agent. Frawley is just a very ordinary player, plain and simple.

  17. I get the feeling he isn't greatly respected by his peers. How could he possibly be with the constant arrogant dribble that comes out of his mouth? I'd be especially interested in hearing Dunstall's view of him behind closed doors. This article, like the last one, is nothing but an excuse to have a crack at clubs he feels the competition would be better off without. His own beloved Port was virtually on the scrap heap before the AFL swept in with a multi-million dollar rescue mission. Never a whisper of that from this dope. The title itself is a laugh: "Crowds and on-field success the keys to avoiding player exodus says Dwayne Russell". It would have been just as insightful if it read: "Australian rules football played with an oval shaped ball says Dwayne Russell". The problem is, you can't even say that he will be made to look stupid if Hogan stays past 2017 and the club is competing in September in front of healthy crowds. That ship has long sailed away.

  18. Honest opinions on Toump. The kid has the talent, training standards and application to be a quality AFL player, but not the one we recruited. Since being recruited the drop off in leg speed has been shocking, this kid was genuinely at u/18 level I don't buy into the idea that Jimmy is scared of the contest, more that he is scared of failure, relies on his confidence being high to play well and takes his performance and failures very personally. the game against the Saints showed that Jimmy has some amazing qualities and class when he's up and going but it can't be 1 or 2 games a year at this stage of his development, he needs to start making strides. I want to see the Toump hit his break and pre season with one clear focus, " do not put the protein shake down " he needs to beef up and develop a hard edge and inside game for next year, he could become a very dangerous player if he can consistently compete on the inside and use his skills and class on the outside in space. His tackling has clearly improved from borderline non existent, clearly been a focus. Bottom line is Paul Roos and Simon Goodwin clearly see the possibility of him becoming a good player, fingers crossed they're right.

  23. shouldn't this thread be titled "the frawley non-factor"?

  24. Hawks should play Spangher above him. When Frawley was younger and I was a huge fan then, every time he lost a contest you could see the frustration all over his face. He would put everything into winning every contest and be livid when he didn't. You stopped seeing that a few years back and he has been bog ordinary ever since

  25. Hawthorn still win the flag IMO. They defeat Adelaide, then Freo in WA and then West Coast on the MCG in the GF. Even if they make the GF, Freo can't win it - 6/10 goals from Ballantyne and Walters on the weekend - the GF is a small forwards' graveyard.

  27. No he didn't. A few months is 12 weeks. He played well for 5 or 6 weeks after droping himself. The fact he finished 18th in the Bluey says it all. the coaches don't rate him. They know what he can do,. They know what he is instructed to do. They see what he does. Jack is a bust sadly.

  29. This can be in reply to both of your posts: Whether or not I could see Martin reach the level of football he produced last year isn't really relevant. It's the fact that he made such a significant step forward as a player. I think it's fair to say he hadn't shown much at all throughout his time with us which is backed by us letting him go for not much in return. It's also irrelevant that you weren't happy that he left. The fact is, he is now playing really consistent and competitive football at a DIFFERENT club and it's clear to me that a change of clubs contributed to this change in his playing form. How much or little I'm not sure. Are you refuting that? He became the player he is now after a change of clubs. As for the drafting comment and comparisons between Melksham, Morton and Sylvia, I really should have prefaced my first comment by saying the following: During the BP recruiting years, it has now become fairly obvious that many of the players we picked including most if not all of our top 20 picks completely lacked certain key attributes/personality traits. For example: Self-determined and driven characters, extremely competitive, naturally hard working players. I'm not sure if you've realised that under the new recruiting department, those types of attributes/personality traits are now the ones at the top of the list for players who are being brought to our club. Melksham, (unlike Watts, Morton, Gysberts, Cook, Blease, Strauss etc) actually possesses those traits which is one reason of many that we'd be interested. You're right, I shouldn't have just said 'he's a former top 10 draft pick so clearly there's some sort of talent or good mix of attributes there'. I should have gone into more detail about the differences in those attributes and general personality traits. Obviously I'm aware that certain picks are just bad picks. But a pattern has emerged from our previous recruiting compared to the recruiting we are now doing in terms of the 'type' of players we are going for. Does all of this mean that I'm dying to get Melksham at our club?! No! 'Little Goffy', when you say things like, 'in a midfield crying out for speed, Melksham is not the answer' it just confirms that you don't actually understand why the club would be potentially interested in his services. No [censored] he's not the answer to any of our list problems! Fark. Those comments are infuriating. If it were possible for the club to attract Bennell, Dangerfield, Treloar, O'Meara and Prestia in one trade period, do you think we'd be talking about this?! Here are the facts: *We are not a destination club for top players and we'd be extremely fortunate to land any of the above names in one trade period let alone over the next few years. *We have the worst list depth and more than likely have the most amount of dead-wood still on our list with a large portion to be moved on over the coming months. *Because of this reason, it's an unfortunate reality that we need to take our chances on players like Melksham in the hope that a new club will be the catalyst they need for a breakout in form/change in mindset. Ala Stef Martin, Jay Schulz,Ted Richards etc. *Bringing in new depth players and pushing out old depth players is part of every clubs list management process and for us trying to build a strong brand and playing culture is absolutely necessary. Every post against the idea of bringing Melksham to the club is for some reason idiotically assuming one or two of the following: Assuming that the club will pick him up irrespective of the risk that he may be banned from playing. He'll be brought to the club as a best 22 starting player and contribute to poor performance. We'll be paying way overs for him. We'd be better off with McKenzie, Matt Jones, Bail instead of him as depth. Completely writing off the idea that a change of clubs could actually be what he needs as a player. Scratch the [censored] surface and you'll see a whole lot of reasons as to why we'd be potentially interested in bringing him to our club.

  30. Kid needs to be hypnotised. Mate, we all eff up from time to time, it is not the end of your footy career but if you make yourself only 'as good as your last touch' then it will be the end of your footy career... He's got talent, but needs to get out of his own head.

  33. Hands up who's tired of talking about Jack Watts? *raises hand* I'd be surprised if anyone has anything to say on Watts that I haven't seen or read before, dozens of times. Not going to bother opening this thread again (possibly idle threat - I probably won't be able to help myself).

  35. Sandy's the footy commentary equivalent of your senile grandfather - a shadow of the great man he was. But you know what he used to be, and that he can't help it, so you turn a blind eye when you catch him urinating in the bathtub because he is confused about where he is. Derwayne is your douchebag uncle, who gets shitfaced, bullies all the kids and pinches all the girls butts, then wonders why they stop coming to his BBQs. He's always been a jerk and you'll never offer him any benefit of the doubt. Your family sounds like a real hoot DA!

  36. Bit worried that we just let Jesse's dad stand at the back with the plebs (no offence to you Webber). He should be reclining on a velvet throne in a gold-plated box while someone feeds him grapes.

  37. He looks shot - I would not be surprised if he retires at the end of his current contract. His body simply doesn't seem cut out to hold together at afl level. I'm one of few supporters who rates his work rate and effort, but even that didn't seem to be all that great for the majority of the year.

  41. You just knew he'd be all over that Etihad crowd. Conveniently fails to mention the average crowd attendance of 29,710 which is higher than several clubs including finalists in North and the Bulldogs. Destined to go higher as the club's fortunes turn around on field. The two clubs he seems to have a hard on for are marginally ahead on average attendance - Fremantle at 31,461 and West Coast at 32,150. It's verging on depraved this vendetta he has against clubs down the bottom. Just a grade A turd of a human with the intelligence of an earwig.

  42. Gary Buckenara on the AFL draft as talked has 6 'bigs' in his top 10. His reasoning is that they are hard to come by and this year they are good. He said Weideman has a bit of Pavlich about him but that clubs would want to make sure his injury is ok. Said Curnow could surprise. Rated Collins at 3 - said clubs would work on his agility. I would like us to pick up either Weideman or Curnow.
