This might be the last exhibition game. Really hope the MFC is keen to obtain one of the licenses once the national comp is launched. I've been really proud of the role our club has played over the last three years in the rise of women's footy. It would be a real shame if our involvement didn't continue.7 points

The suggestion that "he left for personal reasons" is sheer rubbish. So also is any other comment on this thread to the effect that Stef decided he wanted to leave MFC. He was speaking with friends of mine after being told that Neeld wanted him to go to Brisbane, and he was gutted. Thought that in the midst of gloom surrounding the club, he had had a reasonable year. One of his good games was against Brisbane at the Gabba. He was already showing great potential as a fast moving ruckman who could get the ball more than most players his size. At Brusbane he has been a revelation. This year his poorest game was probably v Melbourne. Just have a look at his stats. Does any other ruckman average as many disposals as Martin (possibly Blicavs does). I watched him a few weeks ago v Goldstein and he was highly competitive. I think he is exactly what we need. Playing Chris Dawes as the alternative ruck just doesn't work. Even when Chris played well last week, we were smashed when Max went off the ground. Martin has matured into a most impressive player--remember his game against us at Etihad last year? Remember also some damned good games he played for MFC early on as the tall on the backline against the gorillas. He would not cost a fortune and is extremely fit.Except for a suspension I believe he has played every game this year . If we could get him we absolutely should5 points

I cannot understand all those clambering to delist Fitzy! A 200cm KPP who has developed this year at both ends and who also is capable of being a back--up ruck. I can see him becoming another Stef Martin the moment he transfers to another Club. To me there are others on our list (e.g. McKenzie, Bail) who offer far less upside. We would be silly to discard a developing tall who is insurance, for the same reason that those same Demonlanders feel we should retain Pederson on our list (and they are right)!5 points

Not so sure about that, personally I think he is pretty good and think the bombers should give him at least a 5 year extension5 points

I rarely post but had to share my rage at today's effort. I walked out at half time. And I get that makes me a bad supporter but I've simply had enough of these games where from the first bounce they show nothing. Yesterday Essendon at least had a crack for Q1 before falling away. Our blokes seemed to be unconscious. And this isn't the first time, this is a pattern. We only have to look as far back as last week against North - we lost the game via a horrible first quarter. This has all been said before by other posters so it's not new news - but I had to vent. All these Essendon & Carlton supporters who are whinging about their seasons, they know nothing. MFC 2007-2015 is the baseline for supporter killing football.4 points

What is all this talk about a 'low ebb'? The week before they played us they ran Fremantle to within 13 points. The week before that they played a rancid half against St Kilda, sure, but the week before that they'd beaten Sydney in Sydney. The week after they played us they annihilated GWS who were coming off a three-week winning streak which included wins over Hawthorn and Adelaide. I was at that game the week after - they were not in any sort of 'ebb' that day. Fair dinkum - we played a great game the last time we played them and we beat them all ends up. Let's at least acknowledge that. Doesn't mean a huge amount for today, but it still happened and shouldn't be downplayed.4 points

If we don't give Pedo at least a one year extension then we're nuts. His form pre-injury vastly outweighed Dawes' contributions.4 points

As dawn brings the first rays of light, it's clear that we're in for one of the better days of a cold, harsh winter. A sunny day with light winds and a top of 17 degrees is expected - no better day to break your hoodoo in a stadium where they usually close the roof I'm feeling confident, anyway.3 points

MJ is a decent role player. I'm often frustrated seeing him in the side as I'd prefer someone more versatile/ skillful (such as Salem or Tyson), but he usually plays his role well, and he always puts in a decent effort. He can be a good defensive forward and has the pace to snag a couple while playing that role. He was very good against the Cats and Dogs earlier this year. Well done to him on 50 games, and hopefully he has a good one today.3 points

As long as he sells papers, he's safe. Even prized. The bottom line trumps all at News Corp. An ethics-free zone.3 points

Let's just hope the TEAM plays four quarters of footy cause if they don't we have no chance. I know he's not a fav here but congrats to MJ on 50 games. Let's hope he and the rest of the team have a good one.2 points

Looking at the exchange between Robbo and James Magner, I can only conclude that Robbo is a grubby journalist of the worst kind: the type we see in too many places who run a particular agenda and do so under the guise of professional journalism. Yes, it's his job but by and large his newspaper has done the bidding of the Essendon Football Club propaganda machine and his recent attempts at muckraking against both Geelong and Melbourne when both have been fully investigated and cleared is nothing short of a disgrace. Full marks to James Magner for calling him out and exposing him for what he is, knowing that it's unlikely that the Herald Sun will write any fairy floss feel good stories about him while Robbo remains football editor.2 points

Once you have the first injection you can lose count and the primary objective becomes to have more injections without telling anyone and then you begin to lie to yourself and everyone around you. It's the same with stats, the media, the truth. Apparently most of Essendons clean disposals were put into a little yellow box but never recorded.2 points

For a bit more optimism (this assumes Richmond beats GC tomorrow and keeps Geelong in 9th): The Dogs haven't beaten a top 8 side since Round 5; In fact, they haven't even played a top 8 side since Round 7; Since they last played us (in Round 8), they have played 9 of the bottom 10 sides, with the 10th and final side being us, who they play this weekend. Their recent form is good, but should be considered in context (I think we'll lose tomorrow, for the record).2 points

Just in case you'd forgotten, when we beat the Dogs in Round 8 both Bail and M Jones played. So, too, did Riley, Spencer, Fitzpatrick, Newton and Toumpas, all of whom have since been dropped to make way for better-performing players.2 points

M Jones was down watching Casey today. So was Pedersen, who has come along a few times lately. Heritier has been there in recent weeks but not today, same with N Jones. Say and think what you like about a player's ability on the field (and I'm not a fan of some of these guys), but a seniors player who makes the effort to watch Casey games always gets a few credits in my book. Edit: Sorry, that's not to have a go at any above posts. Probably unrelated in fact. Just a separate post in its own right.2 points

"Essendon great Matthew Lloyd has declared the limping Bombers "disjointed on and off the field" and says James Hird will be questioning his own future after another dark day for the once mighty club." Gee, who is Hirdy going to blame now? The media conspiracy? Demetriou? The AFL? ASADA? WADA? The Supreme Court? Bomba Thompson? Its a fantastic train crash in slow motion. Hird, the gift that keeps giving. And those delusional EFC supporters keep standing by as he and the EFC Directors trash their once proud club.2 points

Crowd at Ethiad on a saturday afternoon for Essendon - 25,914. That's with allegedly four times the supporters as Melbourne. I wonder how they'll be going after three more years of being 'cr4p to appalling'? What an interesting AFL scene it would be in Victoria with Carlton & Essendon in the cellar and Collingwood continuing to fade. Lol, the one thing we could be sure of, it would see 'equalisation measures' move way up the agenda.2 points

Updated for Gawn. Still 12 PL player unsigned and 3 players on the RL that decisions have to be made on. We don't HAVE to sign any of these players but I would keep (at the right price) Garland, Howe, Toumpas, Pedersen, Cross, and Riley. Considering that Howe will want more than 'the right price' - I think he will be traded. Toumpas might be shopped, and Michie might be given another go should we trade those two out, and/or Cross calls it quits. Harmes might get upgraded or given a third year on the RL - his last month of footy will determine that. I think it is hard to argue that Jamar, McKenzie, Fitzpatrick, Hunt, and Bail should be given another contract.2 points
