  1. Not enough love for the mini Wrecker! Ever since my favorite player Matty Whelan retired we have never had the aggressive small forward that puts their body on the line for this club. Loving the work of Jetta and hope he gets to 150 games or even 200. I also believe he has also really grown as a leader and wouldn't be surprised to see him in the leadership within the next couple of years. From the outside it seems the players have alot of respect for Nev. Btw Matty Burgan has done a fantastic article on Jetta on his growth as a person and his leadership.

  2. Well what can I say, it was a tale of two halves. We played a very good, disciplined game in the 1st Term into the breeze in which we were able to keep the Tigers to within striking distance at 8 points in what was a very strong wind they were kicking with. Funnily enough I think our poor kicking in the first term though is something that hurt us in the end, as we had two more scoring shots and severel more inside 50's, but found ourselves behind, when we probably should have had a small lead. Our second term was very good however, in which we killed Werribee around the stoppages and controlled general play, only giving up 1 goal while kicking 7 ourselves. The came the 3rd quarter. We controled the first 6-7 minutes, but could only muster a point, and from then on Werribee controlled the game. The booted 7 goals that term (four from free kicks, at least) to our two and took an 8 point lead. I was optimistic of us running over the top of them, despite the absence of two players, until the rain set in and the wind completely dropped just as the 3/4 time huddles parted. We then had a stoppage slog where Werribee played the better wet weather footy and we butchered it going forward. Only 1 Werribee goal was kicked (again from a free) and we went down by 13 points, kissing any top 4 chances goodbye. We were unlucky, with loosing Terlich & King in the 2nd half who were both playing well, and then the change of weather going into the final term really hurt us. But we played a poor brand of footy in the second half, turning a 26 point lead into a 13 point loss. Now with 4 games to go, three against the top 3 teams, Casey will need to play well and hope Port Melbourne have some losses to assure themselves of a finals spot. My run down: Christian Salem: Was good for Christian to blow out a few more cobwebs. Clearly still a gallop short of the form he was showing over the first 6 rounds, but I thought he worked into the game well. Wet hard at the contests and kicked a nice goal. I'd say he was one of our best in the 2nd half when we didn't have many good players. And given Melbourne won on the weekend and Casey lost, it wouldn't hurt to give him another run at VFL level, just to make sure he's cherry ripe for the final 4 games. Jimmy Toumpas: Start of the year, I thought he was in trouble Jimmy. Then by half way through the season I though he was turning it around, but now I feel he's in trouble again. Did a few nice things, especially in the 2nd term, and he tried to run hard to create some spread, but he just looked to be lacking any real spark. He wasn't terrible by any stretch, but he didn't do anything to stake claims for a recall either. He may be up for trade at years end... Jordie McKenzie: I feel I write the same things about Jordie every time I watch him at VFL level. Played pretty well and tried his guts out, but that's all I can really say about Jordie. He's commited, but just lacks polish as we all know. Ben Newton: Played very well, and kicked two absolute classic goals which showed he was a touch above. Just a shame he doesn't do it as consistently at AFL level, but he's clearly got tools worth persisting with. Would be nice if he could get a little higher numbers at VFL level, but he was still one of our best. Jay Kennedy-Harris: Odd game for Jay. I actually think from the coaches point of view, you couldn't be to disapointed with his game, as he did all the sorts of things you want him to be doing. He chased, tackled and harassed very well I thought. The problem was he had next to no impact on the game and didn't have many touches at all. He was putting in, was pretty clear to see. He just got a big fat 0 on the results side of things for himself. Aidan Riley: Probably our most consistent player over the 4 Quarters. Typical Pig Dog game. Hard as anything and bottom of every pack. If only he was either an elite kick of had really good pace. But with neither of those things, he just lets down a lot of his good work. Had a chance to get us back within 2 points in the final term, only to kick the ball out on the full along with any chances of us getting the win. Mark Jamar: He and Spencil dominated the first half, but they probably had their colours lowered in the 2nd half by Wallace & Daw, especially Russian. He was very good in the first half, and was getting a bit of the ball, as he has done the last few weeks. But in the 2nd half Russian went quiet and that's when Werribee got ontop in the midfield. The rest in history. Still think someone will pick him up next year. Mitch White: Named in the best and not surprising. He was the main reason for our dominant 2nd term IMO. His run and drive from the half back line was first class, and set up many of our forward 50 runs. A lot more attention was paid to him in the 2nd half, but he was still able to get invovled in the play and get a bit of the ball. Just not to the same effect as the 2nd term. His defensive work was pretty strong also. Jake Spencer: See Jamar, however I thought Spencer actually got better as the game went on, and I thought along with Riley, they were our two best in the 2nd half. His ruck work wasn't the best itself, but he worked really hard around the ground. Spencil's biggest issue is that he just offers nothing as a forward. So once King went off, Casey really struggled going forward only having one of Spencer or Jamar to kick to. Rohan Bail: Like Kennedy-Harris, had no impact, however when he did get the ball, he turned it over a bit. For me personally, I thought this was Bail's worst game at VFL level that I've seen. Matt Jones: See Bail comments. Now to be fair to all of Jones, Bail & Toumpas, it wasn't a game for the outsiders today, but we just got very little value, especially from an impact point of view, even if Matty did get a bit of the ball. Dean Terlich: Played a very good first half, and when he got hit high in the third term he got up very groggy and came off with concussion never to come back on. Free kick was missed, instead he was called for holding the ball and Werribee kicked their first of 4 goals from free kicks in the 3rd quarter alone. So once Terlich came off the game started to change as he was marking and intercepting 50% of the ball that came forward in the first half with Fitz taking the other 50%. Max King: Was playing nicely. Had kicked a nice goal from a great pack mark, could have had two first half goals. Took another strong mark early in the 3rd term when things were looking good. He then did his hammy and was not spotted again. I saw him on the bench and he didn't have much strapped to it, so hopefully it's only a minor strain and he'll be back in 2-3 weeks for finals. But his absence was felt in our forward structure. Jack Fitzpatrick: Brought his own footy in the first half. Was marking everything and looking a world beater. Barely sighted in the 2nd half and his man actually kicked a couple on him also. Think he's got a future Fitz, just not with us as he'll likely seek greener pastures. I actually hope we give him a few games before seasons end to boost us his price as someone may score a key position defender on the cheap from us with Fitz. I'd love to know what the free kick count was as we got absolutely murdered on those today. Five of Werribee's 8 2nd half goals were from free kicks. Don't think we got a single goal from a free ourselves. So we got hurt y a combination of injuries, weather and missed shots on goals in the 1st term. This loss will really hurt I'd imagine as I don't know how many AFL listed players Werribee had, but I'd imagine it'll be less then our 14. Stretch didn't play today, and I don't think Oscar did either as I didn't see him with the D-League. Jayden Hunt's late withdrawl also hurt Casey goal scoring power. Hopefully Casey can bounce back next week, but it was a sad way to end the weekend. Still Angry!

  3. Not sure if anyone mentioned him in the post match thread or in the player of the year votes but his job on sidebottom was sensational... Think sidebottom had, had about 20 touches when cross went to him late on the 2nd term, sidebottom ended up with 26 for the game. The way his going he defintly should play on next year.

  6. Watching the replay - apart from the obvious good contributors I really liked Vanders game and while Brayshaw didn't get a lot of it he was central to many of our most important chain of possessions - he always puts the ball in the right spot. Very impressive. Harmes cameo was a gem -attacked the ball, made good decisions and has some speed.

  7. James Hird's insurance company will cover him for costs incurred in defending himself against legal action, but not for costs incurred in actions he has initiated. The action he lost and the appeal cost a total of about 650 grand, which they refuse to cover. So he's suing them. The guy's got his finger superglued to the self-destruct button.

  12. I recorded the replay on Sunday morning at 10.30. I couldn't believe it when I got big head Ed and some other collingwood circus clowns doing the replay. I'm going to complain to foxtel, I don't pay all that money to listen to those biased clowns. Also i'm going to ring our club to see if they can influence foxtel and the AFL to stop it happening in the future.

  13. 10 vs GWS in 2013. Was good friends with Watt's from their junior basketball days. Haven't seen him this year, but statistically he's going well. 16 games, 18 disp p/g, 7 marks p/g and 22 goals. Has a pretty good tank, plays that lead up HF role very well, and would absolutely fit in nicely to our forward structure. Had hoped we would be into Tom Lynch of the GC variety, but this one would still be a good get. Edit: Lynch's assist numbers are excellent. Leads the league this year. Had 3 on the weekend to go with his 3 goals in a big loss to the Swans.

  14. Reads the play exceptionally well, takes intercept marks & helps out defensively really well as a result. He has some close down speed & is a good spoiler. He is loose at times but is often given the sweeper role due to his other attributes and as such most sweeper style defenders do get caught out from time to time. He has been solid on gun midfielders who rest forward many times in his career. Defense is not Grimes big problem, it's what he does with the ball when he gets it that has been his issue. He tries to do too much, tries to be too cute & isn't anywhere near skilled enough or strong enough with his disposal. He doesn't provide enough with his forward thrusts out of defense either. I am by no means a Grimes fanboy but he does have some very good afl attributes and some very poor ones. I think this coaching group is well aware of his game & have been trying to help him fix it. He could still be a very valuable contributer, he has another year on his contract & he has eaten a lot of humble pie this year & has not dropped his head once but kept working on his game as the coaches have instructed. He shouldn't be a the whipping boy anymore & if he is named in our best 22 again it is because no one on the list is ready right now to replace him or the job he is currently doing. Most likely in this week based on Casey & our next opponent is Fitzy. Personally I am predicting no change unless someone is too sore next week. We looked stuffed towards the end of the 3rd qtr on the weekend but the way we finished them off in the 4th, I reckon our coaches will be looking to take that momentum straight into next week with as little change as possible.

  15. Far more than serviceable. Fans on this forum constantly plead for consistency, this guy is consistently good. Yes, he lacks leg speed and isn't a penetrating kick, but what is fantastic about him is that he knows his limitations, and therefore typically makes the right decisions. Incredibly reliable in the air as well. You say he should play next year and be picked on form but that's exactly what he's doing this year....and would be one of the first picked without question.

  16. You missed the point. My swipe was at Eddie. He thinks Dees having QB as our home game is a special 'gift' from Collingwood. We get 55k - 65k to our QB home game even when we have been stuck at the bottom of the ladder. They got 37.8k when a top 8 spot is up for grabs. Pointing that out is not being hypocritical.

  17. We HAVE to beat Carlton. No excuses there. That would give us 7 wins which is good improvement, although if we can sneak one more win and get 8 then we've doubled our wins from last year and the players head into the pre-season with confidence.

  18. Just helped us win a game of footy against his old mob for our first win against them for 8 years. He has received little other than backhanded compliments. I am sorry to tell you this - Hogan's Forwardline needs him. He is horribly out of marking touch and confidence, although it is getting a little better, but the way he competes and advances the footy and takes attention from Hogan are a few of the reasons why we won with 44 Inside 50s. I will back him to regain some marking form and that will make him one of the better 2nd targets in the league.

  19. Not a regular visitor to Bigfooty but I like to read the match day threads after we have a good win (so rarely ever)... Anyway there was a whinging Pies supporter calling Jones a thug on there today lol. Yeah, all those reports and suspensions are really mounting up... Remember what the Collingwood supporters did to his dad? As the old saying goes, people with glass crack pipes shouldn't throw rocks or whatever it is. Love me a bit of scuffle though.

  22. OK Finally had time to watch the replay as promised and while I said I would name names, I can't be bothered tracking them all down since I am supposed to be working so Adam Farr ("Grimes an absolute liability") will have to stand in for the Grimes haters. Yes, he was caught twice with the ball and penalised in the first half, but in his defence he was trying to create some run in the first case. Yes, he gave Gawn one of those 1 metre handpasses that put Max under pressure and resulted in a ball up. Yes, he was out marked on the lead (twice). Yes he kicked out on the full first possession. BUT...He took at least four second half marks including a strong contested mark in the back 25 when they had the momentum late in the 3rd and cleared with a pass to T MAC. He took an uncontested mark in the first term and with a pass to Garland started the possession chain that ended in Hogan's first goal. He created run in the 3rd term with the ball ending with Garlett who kicked to the square resulting in another Hogan goal. He consistently, so far as you can tell on the teeve, ran to space to create options for run out of defence and was still running late in the last when we were controlling the game with a possession game. He cleared the ball out of defence, or assisted in an effective clearance, several times. Stats, for what they're worth gave him 18 possessions, including 13 kicks at 85% effective, although that effectiveness figure probably overstates him slightly since a couple of hand passes simply went to team mates who were immediately wrapped up. I admit I over-stated his worth but I was reacting to claims he is an outright liability. He clearly isn't. I don't know if indirect goal assists is a thing but he had a couple (see above). He was caught a few times but he is generally in the hot zone so that's going to happen. T Mac I rate very highly, but he plays in the hot zone too and averages an outright clanger every week. But we don't label him an outright liability, rightly so. I reckon what's going on with Grimes' critics at the moment is that some of us are primed to see him make a disposal blue (which everyone does, even Jones) so when he makes an error it is the thing his critics remember and they overlook the other stuff. In psychology it's called 'confirmation bias'. Anyone condemning Grimes outright needs to take another look.

  23. You want your sub to be a fresh set of running legs. If you really feel the need for two ruckman, start them both and sub one off later if it's not working. I remember discussing this when the rule was introduced, and my view was that a ruckman should never be the sub. That view hasn't changed.

  24. Hird is suing his insurance co for not covering his legal bills!! I am amused by the irony of that I'm impressed that he wants to continue to line the pockets of the legal fraternity. And, speechless at his audacity (albeit his legal right) Oh, that's right he 'didn't see the Dog's loss coming'!!! Well he better get his mind back on the job of coaching otherwise another 'reality bus' is coming his way.

  29. Today it is back to reality the pies had a poor side in and had not won for five weeks. Saturday's victory was against a side similar to ourselves four of the last five are against sides that will play finals. Much tougher sides than the push overs we have had trouble with over the last month. One more in Carlton and perhaps GWS if they are spent by years end will give us seven / eight for the year. That is all I am afraid we simply ain't that good yet.

  37. Anyone can start a podcast and put it live to air. I will be happy to get one organised for 2016 . We could have Melbourne centric commentators but we don't necessarily need a "big" name ,in fact it would be better if we didn't. The one I envisage will be for adults only, of course, and actually be funny and informative. Umpire abuse allowed, swearing allowed, insults allowed.i.e comedy allowed. I will be drawing from Demonland for "talent" and yes,I use the word loosely.

  38. I like grimes. I want him to make it as much as i want Trengove to make it back. But his hesitation kills me. And kills our momentum. So many times yesterday he had the ball and doesn't take the first option. He looked up, took a step and started to kick to an option but then pulled up, paused and took a couple more steps back before waiting and looking some more and eventually kicking long to a contest. He needs to take the first option. Take the short easy option. No worries. I'd rather us kick it 15 m forward out of the D50 so the long bomb passes centre than kick long from inside D50 which means there is a risk it'll come straight back in one kick. He defends ok. He closes and punches very well. His disposal isn't horrible. But he needs to improve the decision making if he wants to continue at AFL.

  39. Just noticed a couple more we've broken this year: Win a game in July (broken in Round 16 vs Brisbane) - we'd lost our last 16 games in July and the last win was Round 17, 2011 vs Port Adelaide (in Darwin). Win a game in August (broken in Round 18 vs Collingwood) - we'd lost our last 10 games in August and the last win was Round 21, 2012 vs GWS.

  40. The only reason I'm enjoying this disgusting, pathetic, unprofessional, bias, one-sided commentary is because I know we win this game It is an absolute disgrace that they let Eddie commentate Collingwood games. I pay so much money for Foxtel so I can listen to this jackass. It's sickening I can't believe this is allowed, it's actually making a mockery of the game Can't wait to hear him explode later when we win!

  42. We should pick Fitzy to counter Brown & Petrie, but we won't, because we never pick sides to counter opposition threats. So we'll go in undersized in defence & either Brown or Petrie will do a Daniher and kick whatever-straight to be the match winner. Gawn will beat Goldie until the 20-minute mark in the 3rd quarter when he'll run out of puff. And when those two need a rest, Brown will smash Dawes and we'll get killed in the clearances. And another game we could have won thrown away at the selection table. We've been here before, many times.
