  1. One of our biggest strengths is our history. The league wouldn't exist without our club starting Australian football and writing the rules of the game. Some say the MFC is the oldest registered football club in the world. We should cooperate with the next oldest club Geelong and a movie could be made about our two clubs and our historical links. In fact every year the season should start with a Melbourne Geelong game called the history round to educate our children about the culture and history of our game. Most young people would be excused for thinking collingwood is the oldest club, in fact a lot do. We have in the next few years to get people from the arts community ( Russell Howcroft ) and others to form a Melbourne promotion committee which could promote us properly.
  2. It never ceases to annoy me that two suburban teams from relatively minor suburbs like Richmond and Carlton open our AFL and AFLW seasons. The two clubs that started the competition Melbourne and Geelong should open every season for historical and cultural reasons.
  3. I met Sheedy in the Royal hotel in Dublin where our players were staying on the Irish tour in 1984. He is without a doubt one of the most arrogant pricks i've ever met. On the other hand Ted Whitten was a real gentleman and bought us a drink when he found out we were from Melbourne.
  4. I think our history and the importance of the opening round are much more important than the Easter Monday game.
  5. I believe the opening round every year should start with Melbourne vs Geelong. After all these two clubs were the first in existence and the AFL could call it the History round. I talk to a lot of people in my working life and the widespread ignorance of the history of our game is amazing. Most people when asked which is the oldest team say collingwood which when you think about it is what collingwood would love people to believe. Also it may help stop the creeping americanisation of our very unique game as well. It grates on me when I hear commentators talk about ' line coaches ' and ' dee fence ' or 'off fence '. It's about time we started to appreciate our own football history.
  6. We live in Geelong, I can't see us ever going there either.
  7. Yes it does depend on where you live, a lot of us live in the northern and western suburbs and also a lot of us live in Geelong and Ballarat. I'll never go to Casey because I live in Geelong, it's half way to Gippsland for goodness sake.
  8. I've never agreed with this Casey affiliation. By going that far south the club is turning it's back on 45 % of it's supporter base that wont travel there. Also letting collingwood occupy the centre of Melbourne, where we should be, is a huge tactical error. Surely Port Melbourne is our natural sphere of influence.
  9. Yes you're like most people that don't do anything, you sit around behind your computer and criticise people that have. I read the article and when I start believing an american journalist that has worked for the new york times, the wall street journal etc. etc, I will know i've given up on any critical thinking attributes I may have assumed I had.
  10. I suppose you've read his book on guerrilla warfare ?
  11. Vale to one of the great revolutionary leaders of the 20th century Fidel Castro Ruz. Along with other great revolutionary's like Che Ernesto Guevara de la serna lynch and Camilo Cienfuegos he freed Cuba from the dead hand of the US backed fascist Battista regime.
  12. Yes such a proud club that in 1989 nearly went into a merger with Fitzroy. Nick Columb the president at the time said to their supporters please come to the last game in 1989 otherwise the club is cactus. Guess what ? Hardly anyone turned up. Columb then went to Fitzroy and suggested a merger and Fitzroy said ok we'll call the club the Fitzroy Bulldogs. The [censored] hit the fan and and all of sudden people in the western suburbs started to wake up. Protests started and all of a sudden Fitzroy looked like predators trying to take over this poor little working class club. Like the attempted merger between Melbourne and Hawthorn the club that asked to merge became the the good guys and Melbourne the club they wanted to merge with became the bad guys. The history of Fitzroy and the Footscray couldn't be more different. Fitzroy had eight premierships and Footscray had one. Also Fitzroy had 9 Brownlow medals and even with that sort of history the Bulldogs looked like a more worthy club with a more proud history. Yes the doggies are such a proud club.
  13. Yes let's copy the bulldogs and try to be serial failures like they have over the years. We have won twelve premierships never forget history.
  14. Yes i'd never buy it either.
