Wrong. For us to still have 35,500 Members after the previous decade of absolute putrid football is a revelation 1964 was a very long time ago for any return10 points

Hopefully, after the Geelong game he will realize - he is at a club that is seriously on the rise - he can contribute to that rise This may make him 'more positive' in his approach to the game If so he is a valuable commodity6 points

I believe he's going to be a regular contributor to Demonland whilst based in Hawaii.5 points

Not sure what all the fuss is about. Its been on the club web site for a few days: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2015-06-25/goodwins-role-could-increase-this-year and was discussed in the 'Roos stop making excuses' thread. http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/38437-paul-roos-dont-give-us-more-excuses/page-13?hl=%20roos%20%20excuses So nothing to talk about folks! My prediction in that thread was that Goodwin would coach NAB games. Then Roos would start to take a step back as the season goes on in line with the article on the website. Can't imagine Roos stepping back when we are still losing games and at the bottom part of the ladder.5 points

Re Mitchell: Nathan Buckley said on Fox 360 last nite "happened on the field, was based on fact, move on!" He could have said that Mitchell was just "venting" cos he was cheated out of a Brownlow in 2012!5 points

Um, Howe did play well in his 0 disposal half. Again - admitted bias being a CHF - but he hit packs, chased blokes, got to contests, and rarely allowed Geelong's defenders to have an easy grab and a switch to the other flank (all our forwards did this really but Howe was the focal point at FF in replace of Hogan). Forwards are measured in goals scored and I get that but as someone who has to kick goals, compete so that others can kick goals, and organise the mess of the forward line - I can tell you that Roos wasn't blowing smoke; he liked the way Howe didn't go up looking for touches or slide off a pack looking for a spill when he was charged with the spilling. You can tell me it's all just 'to get his value up' but don't be so basic with your thinking around forwards.5 points

What exactly do you base this from? It wasn't pretty but the ball control game plan from last year stemmed the bleeding. There have been a number of solid tactical moves within games this year. The last 40 seconds against the Saints was everyones fault and I think people are reading too much in to the Oxley QB'day thing. I'm happy to be guided by Roos if he wants to handover faster than anticipated then I back his judgement. But I wouldn't be pushing him out.4 points

We have more members than the Bulldogs and Saints, who played finals, Grannies and Prelims in the 00s. We are close to North, who has been playing finals football. Close to Geelong, who needs no introduction. The numbers are disappointing, yes, but it's a revelation than we have 35k, make no mistake. Kudos to the off-field team for selling a turd. Closing the year out strong is very important. If we can get 8-10 wins, we'll crack 40k easily next season. Make the finals in 2016 and we'll be on our way to 50k. No one thought Port had close to 60,000 fans let alone enough fans to buy 60,000 memberships.4 points

No we don't, if players want to go and we get value for them you let them go. Everything must be on mutual terms with a contract if a player wants more than they are worth to the club you thank them and move them on.We haven't missed much over the past two years, Vince for Sylvia, H for Clarke and Brayshaw for Frawley. You even look at Tyson and Salem for Kelly. I wouldnt have Howe or Garland in the must keep category, be good if they stayed but not vital they do4 points

Howe's ability to compete in the air and either mark or bring the ball to ground allowed us to not only straighten us up against the Cats without Hogan, but to also provide a lot of opportunities for our smalls. I think he played a terrific non-selfish game like many of you guys have said. It's players like that we actually need in our side, regardless of their consistency. At the end of the day, he is very important to our structure than a top 10 pick, especially when Hogan is out of the side.4 points

I would also point out that a bloke named Cox dominated the ruck in those games, smashed the Russian with his running ability meaning Nic Nat did not have as big a role. Stats don't tell the whole story.4 points

Our membership numbers are incredible given how pathetic we have been for a decade. What is a concern is how few junior supporters we have. Go to any school or Auskick session and you would be lucky to have in 1 in 100 following us. Hawthorn were dominant in the 1980s but it took another 20 years before the kids of that era started having families and taking their kids to the footy each week, and their membership numbers soared. It is going to take a sustained period of success, and then a further generation before our numbers start to rise significantly. Even if that happens, by then we will have lost the large chunk of our membership that jumped on through the 1950s and 1960s through natural attrition.3 points

We need to get the ball in quickly 'Pennant'. WC defence was good against the Tiges when on their terms but whenever the Tiges moved it in quickly WC were pretty easy to score against.3 points

One staff here is Geelong. I made a drink coaster for her, starring Nathan Jones, with the words "Demons Crash Cats Party"........so she can now look at the dees win during every morning tea..........I also told her that since we dont play Geelong again this year that I have bragging rights for the next 12 months. I fully intend to use this time.3 points

Yes. Two seconds before Sylvia left, Roos said that he was a "required player" and that Melbourne could hardly afford to lose players with Colin's experience. At the time I remember thinking that he wasn't going anywhere. Mitch Clark was the best player on Melbournes list according to Roos and Chip, our AA full back, was talked up too. In return we have got Vince, Lumumba and Brayshaw. None of the Melbourne players who left are playing at the moment. Whilst obviously Roos can't see into the future re injuries, he is good at this stuff and it wouldn't surprise me if he was talking Howe up for negotiations with other clubs at the end of the year. If Howe had of finished the game with zero possessions I reckon Roos may have had him in contention for Brownlow votes3 points

I know he's not but I'm getting in early for next week when all with hindsight say he should have been and how we went in with too many talls.3 points

If it's not embarrassing enough witnessing Aussie bogans cringeworthy behaviour in Bali and Phuket, now the travelling circus are behaving like tools at Wimbledon draped in the Australian Flag and dressed like a bunch of drunk canaries. What the hell is it about Australians who want to be the loudest FWITS when overseas? As a person who has lived overseas for long periods the Aussie cringe factor never ceases to surprise. Can't wait for the camera shy bogans who run around the ashes series draped in the the Aussie flag..... Our flag has been hijacked by these morons.2 points

Anyone can be right 5 days after the club puts the story on the website!! Maybe 'partyboy' has been on vacation, heard the news and thought it was a scoop. The transition will probably be: - Goodwin to do less player development and take more training/coaching sessions this year. - Goodwin to play a big role in the 2015a trade/draft process - Goodwin takes a chunk of the pre-season coaching work. - Goodwin to probably coach the NAB games in his own right, without Roos in the box (or even at the game). - Roos starts coaching from the boundary for part/all of some games towards the middle of 2016 (depending on our wins/losses) - Goodwin does more work with the board, sponsors and the press in 2016. - In Sept 2016 Roos walks away. Roos has made it clear he will not be at the Demons when his contract expires. He will make damn sure he leaves the players, the list and the coaches in the best possible situation he can. He will have done the job he was recruited for. No crystal ball, grapevine contacts are needed when posters read our website regularly.2 points

why would he would put spin on players that aren't 'puting contract talks on hold' he's gone and Roos knows it he also knows painting him in the best light possible is likely to get us the best return on the asset we are about to lose2 points

Can't imagine the pressure that'll be on us to beat the flogs if the Saints get over them next week. If we only get one more win for this year, I'd want it to be against the drug cheats. Starting to enjoy Bucks on 360. He doesn't just waffle on with political mouthwash the way Roosy sometimes does; he calls a spade a spade.2 points

I think you are right on with Jamar 'ProDee', Nat has struggled against him because he doesn't let him get an easy jump at the ball. Jamar pushes in under him and keeps him off the footy. I doubt we will bring Jamar in for this game but as you say it is a left field and not altogether dumb idea when talking match ups. Hopefully Stafford is teaching Gawn & Spencer the technique to bring Nat undone.2 points

All part of the great Paul Roos plans to make someone pay a premium price for him. 0 disposals in a half of footy? Apparently the best 0 disposal half the coach has ever seen. Who was the last 0 disposal in a half player he had seen? Put it this way, a think a majority on here have called for Howe to be dropped at some stage this year. What would this do to his trade value? We have a pure genius in charge of the team, and is playing this perfectly. I'm starting to get excited about who we may be able to bring in to the club because of Roos' efforts.2 points

Its good to see some highly respected people (eg Mitchell, Brown) call Hird and the players out for the hypocrites they are. I recall 14 of the other 17 coaches did not attend an AFL arranged dinner late last year to welcome Hird back. No love lost with other clubs, clearly. To top it off they keep losing! This is sporting theatre at its best!!2 points

Completely disagree. Jamar doesn't move outside of a twenty metre perimeter. Jake did really well. Kicked a goal, kept the momentum going at centre stoppages and he chases. Jamar lumbers around. Jake has been shat on all year. He deserves to get a bit of credit. His work rate is so far superior to Jamar's it isn't funny.2 points

Apart from Junior none on your list showed anything like Vince and Cross to warrant keeping them around to be the designated elder statesmen to guide the kids. Either their body was shot or they were brilliance without the substance. You need the substance to get the best out of the kids. And even then with Juniors hammy in his final year, his body was cooked too. There was an old saying that footballers are like sausages... When they're done they're done!. All those blokes were done. We needed a generational shift after 10 years of the same group under danners. It shouldn't have taken this long to start to turn around though (but that's another million page thread!)2 points
