  1. Brisbane won this game when Merrett cleaned up Pedo and nobody had the nads to get stuck into him and rough him up. From that moment on they knew we would be a walkover. Weak as pizz.

  2. Aside from a 10+ goal loss, how much worse could today have been? Sun, no wind at all, for 51 points. Our opponent didn't score, not once, for 30 minutes. At the end of that period we led by just 7. We had a 14 point lead 7 minutes into the fourth quarter, to lose by 23. A 37-point turnaround in 25 minutes. We lose our 19th consecutive game at Etihad. We had more of the ball, again, but just 34 inside 50s. This is a negative. This is a step backwards. And to think there are people who think we have nothing to lose in these last 5 games.

  5. That was very hard to watch. Watching us get overrun by bog ordinary teams is not getting any easier to stomach. Very ready for this season to end now.

  6. I've just been to the game. I can see the game plan clearly now. Kick it to the opposition as much as possible. Instead of kicking for goal kick it or hand pass it to a contest. If you get the ball and a player is in the 50 on their own run back into trouble and get tackled. If you take a mark and players are streaming forward make sure you stop until they are all manned up, all leads have died out and the man on the mark tackles you causing a turnover. Lose the game at all costs. It's called tinking or something like that...

  7. At the MBC function last month, Jackson made the point that success will come, but it arrive after he has left the club and perhaps after Roos has too - certainly after he is no longer senior coach. That is how much needs to be done on just about every damn level. They are realistic about it - we are not. And why would we want to be - damned to several more seasons of utter tripe. Roos is right about the culture the playing group - they don't know how to win. They also have a class deficit which makes it all the harder to capitalise on effort when it is there. I can see why the club might want forwards too. One effective forward would change a lot about our results straight away.

  8. That was absolutely deplorable. A worst display of skill at an elite level of sport I have not seen. I am seething. If you said to me the team in red and blue were a bunch of blokes who had never played footy before and were having a first crack at it, I'd say 'yeah, that's about right, lots of skill errors and poor decisions, missing goals from 5 metres out, kicking over players' heads 15 metres away, they are the things they will get better at as they learn the game.' But this was a bunch of supposed professionals playing at the elite level. Some of the mistakes were absolutely baffling. I cannot comprehend how full time footballers who train three times a week all year can make such fundamental errors. You could go to a suburban footy game and pluck a bloke out of the crowd who's just had 10 beers and he still wouldn't have made some of the errors we saw today. I know we are a poorly skilled side and a battling side, but even with this in mind our performance today plummeted to levels you would hardly ever see in the AFL. It wasn't a lack of effort, just an inability to perform the most basic fundamentals with ball in hand. Jordie McKenzie how can you miss a set shot from 12 metres straight in front? Disgraceful. Aidan Riley how can you miss from the edge of the goal square? Why did you lie on the ground for 20 seconds after taking a mark instead of getting up and kicking to a teammate streaming into goal, only to then do a rubbish chip kick and turn it over? Pathetic. Chris Dawes how can you not execute a 2 metres handball to a teammate (Blease) running past? After doing bugger all all day how can you make a mistake an 8 year old kid wouldn't make? It's all very well and good to collect your $500k per season, but your performances of late are barely worth $80k. I'm just sick of it - sick of watching this bunch of second rate footballers masquerading as an AFL team, making mistake after mistake, failing to capitalise on dominant periods of play and then crumbling late when the heat is applied. They don't know how to win - as Roos said they are just waiting to lose, you can sense it sitting in the crowd. And let's not forget we were playing the Brisbane Lions - a young, bog ordinary side - away from home. Even the Lions turned it over numerous times and made poor decisions going forward. They failed to capitalise on our mistakes. Imagine what Hawthorn would have done to our turnovers today. The score would have been 30 goals to 3. Too many out there are not up to it, we are slow and lack skill, and I would be expecting big changes at year end to clear out the many sub-standard players that we are so damn good at accumulating. Hawthorn next week should be loads of fun. Can't wait.

  9. There should be a team rule - whenever an opponent lays out a team mate with a cheap shot , every Melbourne player IMMEDIATELY runs straight to that bloke. 17 blue and red jumpers in Merretts face today. There needs to be an immediate threat of excessive force. Blokes like Merrett need to know that 'they will be coming'. Yes Frawley responded, but gee, it was a light bump and a finger point. I want to see every single bloke sprint from wherever they are, ignoring merretts team mates and going with a single focus - Merrett.

  10. Worst performance of the year - indistinguishable from the Neeld rubbish Forget missing shots, we in no way deserved to even be in that contest. That is the 8th time in 18 games we have kicked 7 goals or less for the day, how disgraceful Another 34 i-50s is completely uncompetitive How pizzweak to concede 5 goals for the day then 6 in the last 20 minutes When it was there to be won Brissy stepped it up a notch and we went backwards Totally lay down like the bunch of peahearts they continue to prove themselves as If Paul Roos cannot get their heads right, what hope do we have? What kind of position does this garbage put us in for attracting talent and retaining members? How many pathetic skill errors and bad decisions can a side possibly make in one afternoon Hawthorn will KILL us next week by 100 mark my words, and we will finish bottom I give 6 players a pass mark and the other 16 were pathetic Dawes has had 30 disposals and 1 goal in his last 4 weeks FCS! Watts, Tapscott and Blease useless as usual What has happened to Garland? Vince absolutely torched us about 5 times with stupidity, lack of skill or selfishness Riley and McKenzie the two least polished players in the competition So angry and sad

  11. Saying Bail is gone yet Blease gets to still hang by a thread is one of the dumbest things said on this site for a while.
    6 points
  12. Surely we now know enough about Tapscott and Blease? McKenzie was on Hanley today. Hanley had 24 touches, 5 tackles and 1.1. McKenzie missed a goal from 10 metres out. He's not good enough.

  14. 1. Stef Martin not in Melbourne colours 2. That shite excuse of a ground where you can't see anything, and they won't let you sit on the wing even when there are only 3 people occupying 10 stands 3. The lack of fight after Pederson wasn't decked
    5 points
  15. The pathetic effort to stand up when Pederson was cleaned up by that dog of a human Merrett, was typical of everything that is wrong with this team. Selfish, play for yourself and your position footballers. Yes our effort at the contest is good, but the lack of running and the lack of support for one another is a disgrace.

  16. Sorry I never have anything original to add, but I've had enough. Sick to death of the whole thing. Not going to any more games this year. Dunno if I can be bothered renewing my membership. Just sick of being a Melbourne supporter. Kick in the guts every week. Better things to do in this life: read a book, write one. Do the gardening. Watch my local team. Can't convince my kids to come along or take much interest. Find Demonland the only interesting thing about the game Was never that excited about Roos. Too defensive (suppose he won a flag being that, but jeez I wish he'd win one for us) Also feel we've been screwed by the AFL. We bottomed out at the wrong time. They're only interested in the expansion teams, mainly so they can continue to stuff their own bloated wallets. CUBS, the lot of them, from Demetriou down, [censored] in Amani suits. Us, Dogs, Saints - permanent cellar dwellers. Apologies for pointless vent. Suppose I'll feel more positive by about February next year.

  17. "Jetta - tried but limited" No he smashed one of the most in form small forwards going around.

  18. Bail does far more team things than Blease. Blease IMO goes first. However, Bail is not helping his cause by failing to eradicate his continual mistakes. All year he's been running hard, tackling, chasing, pressuring, but all year he's been turning it over, making bad decisions and fumbling under pressure. He's in the same boat as Grimes. Neither is improving their skills and we all are patently aware of how much we need skill.

  19. Extrememly harsh on Jetta! He gave Green a bath, near impossible to tackle, tackles with vigour, picks the right options. He has been a revelation. I thought Tyson was good too, and used the ball better today than in the past. The rest, pretty accurate. Vince played like a millionaire today.

  20. Pathetic , incompetents, weak willed effort. Never want to see Bail, McKenzie, Blease, Tapscott again. Almost added Watts to that list - I'm over him.

  23. Agree. When you are winning contested footy, that comes from effort. When you are the 18th team or worst at controlling the footy, that is poor skill. We have more scores against us from turnovers than any other team, that comes from a lack of skill at retaining the footy. Our disposal today was as poor as I have ever seen. Brisbane didn't play brilliantly, but our poor disposal gave them the footy time and time again. The misses at goal were shameful. I trust Roos and Taylor and Viney senior to get rid of non AFL standard players at the end of the year. Then to hopefully get it right at replacing them with talented youngsters and tried but skilful players from other clubs, who might not be in their club's best 22, but who have the desire and ability to improve.

  25. I posted this in another thread Apparently Tom Mitchell is on over $500,000 a year at the Swans (source - Mark Allen, SEN). I'd say the Swans would have to off load him to pay Buddy's, Tippett's, Ried's, etc etc pay next year. Off loading Malceski would help to My prediction is the Demons will off load a second rounder for Mitchell and Malceski. The Blues are after Mitchell too, they may beat us to the punch. If they do, the club would get Malceski for a low pick (not to dilute compensation for Frawley) My other prediction is the Dees are going hard for Cameron at GWS. We are the front runners as we have the money to pay for him and the draft pick to get him. Cameron would also enjoy the prospect of playing next to Hogan. As much as the club would love Frawley to stay, I'd say the club would be happy to let him go if the Cameron deal was in the bag. Probably why the club is going to the AFL wanting to know what compensation they will get for Frawley. Roos saying he would not play Frawley if he knew he was going to another club is all smoke and mirrors. Roos will not compromise the team losing games by over 10 goals as the team needs to believe they are competitive at AFL level. Playing Frawley as a forward is purely a move to keep us competitive, yet looking at the future without him. Frawley is not a swingman!! If the club does get Cameron, Hogan maybe seen as the swingman and be played as a backman

  26. I could not agree more. We've been physically week for a long long time. A grand final was lost, in part, 'cos we didn't strike back. Part of Hawthorn's rehabilitation from their poor pre-Clarkson period was "unsociable football" - we just aren't physical enough - we have players with courage who will put their head over the ball, and that's the most important toughness, but we also need a huge infusion of mongrel.

  27. The sad thing is, even when we were 13 points up I had a sense that we would blow it. Call it experience.

  28. Pathetic. Abysmal. Embarrassing. Take your pick. I can't remember being angrier watching a game this season. The number and nature of the mistakes was beyond explanation.

  29. Games like this make you seriously question the progress. This has been an abomination. Many players need to be culled and if Saty has a problem with that he can get stuffed. Absolutely sick of it.

  32. Roos is starting to get very frustrated with this lot - using words such as "deplorable skills" "horrible skills" "extraordinary mistakes" and never having witnessed such a thing before... I have a feeling we'll be delisting quite a few at years end...

  33. I rate Watts. He wasn't the only player to have a bad day today. Very happy about Malceski if true.

  34. Today is a reason a player like ROK would be handy for a year. Has the qualities we sorely lack.

  35. I know it's been rumoured elsewhere, but I had a mate who was at a function yesterday where a former Demons great said that Malceski to the Dees for 2 years was a done deal.

  36. Have to disagree with Dawes. He chased, tackled and ran after a man all day. He was making up for a lack of defensive discipline from the rest of our forwards. Once we got the ball in he was stuffed and had 2 on 1's in most contests. He is our only forward who consistently puts on some forward pressure.

  37. Met Malceski's cousin last night, said that Nick was as good as gone from the Swans, is moving back to Melbourne and most importantly will be a Dee this off-season. Take that for what you will.

  38. Pathetic!!!!!! WTF is wrong with these players???? Roos commits till 2016 & yet these players cannot commit by turning up to compete & effort at AFL level! These would be non negotiable by Roos & should drop/ sack & turn over the list until he gets the right players! Don't want hear any excuses by members etc... Wasn't expecting finals but it seems players going thru the motions! Watts FFS grow some [censored] balls & compete ... No hunger... Needs to be dropped until season end to show if he wants to play afl anymore! Members have had enough.....

  39. IMO that was the WORST decision I've seen made by a Melbourne player this season (and that's saying a lot). He was 50m out so could have had a shot for goal. If he's not confident from that range, fine, kick it to the hotspot. But no, let's loop a 15m sideways pass onto the head of a guy that's manned up, 178cm tall and with no overhead marking ability (sorry Jack). Turnover, Lions goal. Adelaide got rid of him for a reason... useless!

  40. Chook, Bob isn't an apologist for the club, he is a realist. We are not good enough. We have far too many who don't have AFL standard skill. When you have a handful of them in your team you just can't win. Doesn't matter who the Coach is or whatever. Our skill today was pathetic. Our effort, shown by our contested footy wasn't the problem. Excluding Watts from the effort stat as he shows none.

  41. He will not be a good footballer until his realises his limitations, why he runs behind players looking for the handball to make the play, YOU CANT KICK FOR [censored] MATE!!! You can't even bounce or handball the ball properly. He is a good defender but until he realises he isn't nick malceski he will just be a turn over king. Why he chooses to try and baulk a player in the defensive 50 is beyond me. And what staggers me more is players who actually give him the ball when they have a free kick/mark, just stupid.

  42. Went to the game with a bus full of disadvantage children who have never ever been to an AFL match. By far one of the worst game I have seen. Why the fk are we so defensive!? Nev jetta and Dom Tyson were best on for me. That was lynden dunns worst game.

  43. How is it that the Lions can get there no names like Close, mcStay plus about 5 others who I've never heard of before to perform and our up and comers seem to take for ever to make an impact. Development still has a long way to go. A lot of radical changes still needed.

  44. No one here sticking up for Garland? WTF has happened to him? Was super reliable 3 yrs ago. Then had a lobotomy and forgot how to play footy. Has sucked big time this year.

  45. He is one player who has continued to improve. Made one error in the third when he tried to take someone on and mucked it up but his spoiling and positioning was terrific all day.

  46. Can't wait for us to lose Frawley and get two first rounders to mask our need for more quality. We'll lose a quality big bodied experienced player and be 'compensated' with a potential Lucas Cook. Gee, free agency is great for struggling clubs isn't it? I don't wonder why the crowds are down. It's because only 4 teams can win the flag by the end of October when lists are lodged. The league made a huge mistake putting free agency in at the time it did after multiple compromised drafts. In 2 years time they'll be trying their hardest to deny its impact but the only clubs that will have moved up the ladder will be those that got handed picks in compromised drafts. You can bet that us and St Kilda aren't going anywhere as good side will keep plucking players from us. Meanwhile Chip will go play for a top 4 side on serious money. And why exactly should I pay when I go to the footy? I'm over it. It's a flawed system that doesn't protect the people that actually pay for it.

  48. Can't kick, looking at you Terlich, McDonald, McKenzie, Bail, Garland. All terrible hacks of the football. Seriously if Bail and Terlich are playing next year we will still finish bottom four then.

  49. Great opportunity to grab a young star. Watched Jordan Schroeder today for Geelongs VFL Team today. He smashed the Dolphins with 30+ possessions and at about 100% efficiency... none were wasted. 15 Clearances. Good burst of pace. Too good for VFL. He has some injuries but I see a bright future. Offer 3 years and $200,000/yr contract. This kid won the Liston last year as a 20 year old.
