hmm.. I dont like the idea of co-captains. <_< Personally it was Junior for me. . ah well, Its done.

we are sooo farked, i cannot believe how bad our leadership group is...

Robbo- shows zero leadership onfield

Yze and Miller- aren't even in our best 22, and show little leadership onfield even when they do play.

Neitz- retiring

Bruce- Shows very little leadership onfield and isn't even a dominant afl player

McDonald- Shows leadership onfield through hard work, but isn't inspirational, and his body is showing the wears of time. he is not the same player today that he was 12 months ago.

Mclean and Sylvia don't really show very much hope in terms of leadership in the future either

A fantastic achievement, particularly for Junior IMO. Junior has achieved this through hard work, not talent, and through modesty and being the consumate honest team man.

No disrespect to Cam, but I think you'll find he was chosen as co-captain to ease the burden on McDonald from an off-the-field (media) perspective as much as anything.

Interesting, thought they were going to just give it to Bruce but it seems the felt they need to show respect to the great jmac aswell.

Probably the perfect decision considering both probably can't be sole captains.

However it shows how weak our leadership is that we need to captains to fill the void of big Neita.

just strikes me as a claytons decision... but thats just me

A pretty obvious choice for the short term.

I am interested to see what decision is made for next year though. I personally would like to see either Brock or Jones put there hand up both on and off the field to become sole captain - Brock is still my choice despite his off field indescretions.. If not, I think maybe co-captains of Bruce and Junior will be the way to go short term.

It is not a big deal. Not an official appointment simply caretaker.

The club has missed a good opportunity to rotate captains for the next 8 weeks and see which individual shows a bit of leadership?

Im not that annoyed. .just seems a tad wussy.. But I can see a method in their madness. It wil serve a pupose and thats fine. just not my flavour..thats all :)

Jones has gone backwards this year , but I guess he's not Robinson Crusoe , and McLean has obviously dropped in the pecking order due to his indiscretions

Junior and Bruce were the obvious ( and only ) candidates IMO.

I would have included green in there. However, he was voted out of the leadership group, not sure why.

^^ what he said

He was never voted in by the players in the first place because they rightly or wrongly did not view him as a leader.

I agree - McDonald isn't an outgoing guy, so with co-captains he won't need to shoulder too much in the way of extra activities.

Bruce is in the leadership group, and already talks in the press a fair bit.

cop out, why not just say there will be no captain.

Yeah, rather than having a Captain we could break ground by having a Designated [censored].

I'd prefer if Dean Bailey tossed the damn coin himself.

I hate the idea of Co-captains. Make a decision.

Posted

I hate co captains but it's really just saying in Neitz absence these 2 will flip the coin.

Glad Junior is one, think Bruce will need to lift dramatically to make a impression.

Posted

I hate this decision, really think the club needed to make its mind up on one or the other. Love it how the article says 'the leadership group 'strongly agreed'', makes it sound like they were polled in a survey.

Bruce as captain

Well, this is it.

Our club has hit rock bottom. I take solace in the fact it will never get worse.

Posted

Yeah not really thrilled with it either. Would have either rotated it between four players for two weeks each or just given it to Bruce.

Acceptable due to the Neitz injury but in 2009 i prefer 1 captain

good post....

i dont think its a big deal at alll.... we all know junior wont be captain next year and bruce may have just aged to much to be given his chance.... but these guys both deserve the be leadin the club at this point in time..... stand in captain for 8 weeks who cares its not a big deal. good luck to both of them.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
