Tom Fullarton

Iโ€™m sorry to say people, Fullarton is not the answer. Turner, Jefferson and JVR should all be playing ahead of him unless he actually bangs the door down. A polite knock from a guy who is still a step below AFL wonโ€™t get him a game and nor it should. Not selecting him yet is selection integrity.

Or payback from other issues?

Given the status quo, I don't think Tom is behind anyone. Fritta has been abysmal with effort, JVR seems to have lost it and I don't know why Turner got dropped after one game.

Goodwins line last year when they were going with JVR, Fritta, Turner and Petty up fwd is that they were building cohesion. Really not sure what they are building at the moment. Doubt it would get builders sign off.

If Fullarton (sp?) is going to have a crack, I'd play him in place of those that haven't been (e.g. Fritta).

I think Fritsch has been much better the last two weeks and at least kicked 2 goals against the Bombers. Given we need as many people kicking goals as we can I'd be leaving him in.

Personally I'd like to see a starting forward line this week of:

HF: Pickett Jefferson Langford

F: Fritsch Fullarton Melksham

Int: Spargo

I'd also like to see Tholstrup replace Spargo, but he probably needs a week in the magoos.

They being ??

Atm JVR is not ahead on form and neither is AJ. Jeffo was solid in his first game and I'm keen for him to play a good 5-6 week block at a minimum.

Turner I feel like could be better off going back again and playing the Lever role.

The thing he offers which none of the others do is he is 200cm and has that extra reach.

With Lever having a long spell injured, yes maybe Turner should fill his role, unless Jed Adams is genuinely ready.

And if Jefferson has recovered he probably plays ahead of Fullarton, who the match committee appear to feel is last man on the list.

I believe Fullertonโ€™s nickname is โ€œcreamโ€

Might need to change it to sour cream

Alternately, doesnโ€™t cream always rise to the top.

Whatโ€™s the worst that could happen playing Fullartonโ€ฆโ€ฆ.? Non-competitive in the air & when the ball hits the deck?

Thatโ€™s already happening, so roll the friggin dice.

I'm tipping he'll compete in the air

We've got to the 'Fullarton is the answer' part of the season way to early

Average VFL player at best

But he deserves a go as our entire fwd line is average quality and he is some form

ย

Don't think anyone seriously suggests he's the panacea to all our ills.

Given how marvellously most of our list are aiding our wins then as others suggest why not reward effort, otherwise you've made a rod for your back and complacency is the order of the day.

We're currently rewarding lacklustre tackling, fumbling and inability to kick to advantage ( to say nothing of the scoreboard ). Whilst we must 'preserve' these wonderful talents I certainly see a case could be had for just trying someone who actually wants to have a crack.

Our forward line does look a lot more capable of at least applying ground level pressure and some spark this week

Congratulations Tom Fullarton at 200cm you provide a target up forward and a bit of a chop out for Max. Hope you get a bit of a run at it.

Deserves his chance. Presumably will be doing the relief ruckwork when Gawn rests, too.

Will be tough against Fremantleโ€™s defence, but I hope he gets a few games in the seniors as reward for his hard work.

Yep well done son all the very best, well deserved!

Over to you Tom.

No wonder we have issues if this is someone who really thinks this.

Team selection at this club is difficult to understand

It seems the term "Selection integrity" has been overused and is difficult to comprehend. How about we rename it to "Having principles" or "standing for something" to get the point across

It has nothing to do with the perceived capability or potential of the player you're bringing in.

Sure but I think JVR, Jefferson, Turner and AJ are all ahead of him. I would however give Fritsch, Viney, Sharp and Henderson a spell.

AJ did very little in the AFL.

Go Tom. Give 'em HELL.

Congratulations to Tom "Cream" Fullarton getting his debut for the Demons.

All I will say to him is that he must COMPETE in every marking contest he can. He should aim to try and kick at least one goal in each quarter (if possible).

Wishing him all the best! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Looking at our forward line as picked I like Fullerton surrounded by clever agile and aggressive small forwards. Makes his job simple, mark or bring to ground, then throw your weight around to help the smalls do the rest.

Real chance we can find some traction vs a Freo team thatโ€™s not exactly flying themselves.

Go Demons.

Glad to see Fullo getting his shot at AFL he deserves it, don't think I would have taken Fritsch out though he was much better last week. Hope he and JVR benefit from VFL time.

Would have thought Jeffo comes in as well and maybe Turner plays back, especially a good option with May now being out, but no Jeffo so no one to replace Turner if he goes back.

Oh well, don't think anyone really thinks we're a shot at this game but I'm sure stranger things have happened.

God, missing Lever and May, not great is it.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
