We were caught out last year with back ups for Max ,now we have two mature age Ruck forwards just in case we need them.

Good selection.

At 193cms, he’s not a backup ruck.  He’s a battler forward

Think Casey, and protection for some of those young lads on our list.

Perhaps but Bell delivered that

I’m taking a guess here and know only what i’ve read on this site. But, with the ruck rules the way they are,  these bash and crash ruckman can now at least nullify far better players. Look what happened to Grundy in the GF and how the North Ruck Tristan Xeri plays.

Knowing JT he wouldn’t “ waste” any pick.

You’re quite right ..JT stated “they’d put a lot of work into this draft” so he was picked for a purpose. Happy to see how it pans out before he’s relegated immediately to Casey (as some posters assume ) .

Has a totally underwhelming CV.

It doesn’t make much sense. BBB and Schache gone and we're back playing 6 talls in the Casey forward line.

Assuming Campbell rucks:

Jefferson, Fullarton, Kentfield, Verrall, Johnson and Melksham.

Agreed.

Jeffo is playing ones (hopefully), Fullerton sucks, Verrall is a ruck and Melksham isn't a tall.

Makes sense if they don’t rate some of those forwards…

If we don’t, that is a worry.

I'm more surprised that Clancy Dennis who was an under 18 All Australian key defender missed out on getting picked in the draft?! 🤔

Likely a crash and bash back up for JVR. Basically said that was one of his roles in the VFL GF. Crashed and bashed Crossly out of the game.

Werribee knew they could win if they could subdue Crossly who is one of the best rucks in the VFL.

He lost 13kgs pre season with Weribee. Spent the previous 2 and a half years rehabbing a bad knee.

“I moved down from Albury and I’ve had a pretty serious knee injury for the past two and half years. This year I got my body right. I dropped about 13kg."

"He (Brayden Crossley) is a dominant ruckman, he is probably the best ruckman in the league, and we knew if we could nullify him to less than 70 hitouts with crash and bash and wear him down we could be able to get them."

You must remember, the 2010 u18 AA CHF was none other than Lucas Cook. That didn’t go too well

Nahhh he is Forward/Ruck and has played back up ruck on many occasions in his career.

He has just played  a season after having serious knee issues for 2 and 1/2 years.

I take it we got the Richmond doctor to check him out before we called his name.

True! That was another Prendergast disaster. ☹️

Hopefully you can still grow at 24 as 193cm is a pretty small ruck. Josh Smillie as a midfielder is taller

Well welcome Aidan.

I'm  not for one moment comparing him to Ponsiadly in terms of ability ....  but, someone(s) has seen something and we're  prepared to roll a die.

Thats the player I was thinking of as well.

Better than Dawes, I’m excited by the brute.

Sometimes it's about opportunity and effort.

Well he's  shown effort and application and now has an opportunity.

No idea what will result. Am genuinely curious though.

Good luck 👍

he might be another mihocek, bub?  nice one grab marker.

maybe wishful thinking

Sounds like he is a unit that can step in when needed

We need some tall depth

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024.
