Can’t possibly see Sparrow staying in next week. Ā I’ve been a supporter but he has lost something this year. Ā
This week he had too many missed tackles. He was easily too often outmuscled in the contest. Lost so many stoppages and clearances. One clearance from 10 centre square and about 15 stoppages. Ā Not alone but was clearly not interested or lost any sense for the contest. Ā His miss in the 3rd quarter… 30 metre out, clear by 10 metre from any opposition. Could have run in and kicked any easy goal. Instead he ā€œchippedā€ in to the behinds and hardly made the distance. Ā Compelling that he was lacking any confidence or interest. Ā

Anyone calling for changes in the forward line needs to realise they weren't the problem. We couldn't get our hands on the ball all day.Ā

I think we have the let the majority of the guys try to redeem themselves.

I assume Kolt and Salem will be touch and go. If so, Billings and Pup Brown should get a run. Woewodin or Howes as the sub

Concur here Spirit however I would play Billings. Those that potted him need to have a good hard look at themselves. he got 75 AF points in less than a half of a game. Swap Billings for Chandler IMO.Ā

Surprised people are calling for Chandler to be dropped.Ā
Our forward line wasn't the issue on the weekend and Chandler played a decent enough (not great) game.
2 Goals (=1st for Dees) , 5 Score Involvements (=2nd for Dees), 4 Tackles (=2nd for Dees), 3 tackles inside 50 (1st for Dees) 27 pressure acts (=3rd for Dees), 6th for our meters gained etc.Ā

Despite the horror show yesterday, I'm bullish we can get the job done against the Giants. They're not going as well as people think. They've lost the last 2 on expected score (Richmond and Suns at Engie) and have been belted on inside 50 differential the last couple of weeks too. They've just been extremely efficient and very accurate which has got them over the line. Given that we've been the best team at restricting teams from scoring per entry and have upped our territory game, plus it's at the MCG, I think we'll win. If we can't roll the Giants at the MCG it's curtains for the season.Ā

I agree. Their last fortnight has been less impressive than the 2-0 result suggests.Ā

Of course, we have to demonstrate that we can produce quality football against a genuinely good side. We did this for 2.5 quarters against Brisbane but unless you rate Essendon (I don’t), we haven’t really done so since the Carlton loss in Round 9, and not for long enough to win since the week prior vs Geelong.Ā

Teams are starting to expose Boweys lack of height in the backs, but against GWS this shouldnt be a problen - so he gets a reprieve. What GWS had is speed and in form Hogan.Ā  Salem should play in the midfield or be given a rest. We have to tag Tom Green (note they ate not a high inside 50 team, so restricting Green is a must).

On a brighter side, they wouldn't have a clue who Bedford should go and tag!!!!!

Get Howe in for Bowey!Ā

Whilst not as confident as you, you're not wrong about GWS's efficiency and accuracy.

The last 4 weeks they've kicked 61.25 or 71% accuracy which is so far above AFL average it's not funny. It's also unsustainable if they think they can win a prelim or grand final by relying on accuracy and less scoring shots. They could well be accurate again this week, but the tide will eventually turn for them.

Re: Billings, he deserves to stay in the side this week. The problem is he's failed to play 2 good games in a row all year and can't be expected to help much on Saturday night.

Unfortunately Bowey is one of Goodwin’s untouchables just like Sparrow.

I thought Bowey was better this week. Sparrow is just getting caught in no man’s land too often.

He could use a week at Casey to fill his boots as the main man and get some Confidence back, but Goodwin must not rate the standard of the VFL at all. Refuses to bring anyone back through it who he sees as starting 18.

Yes, I watched the second half of the vfl game. The conditions didn't suit Jefferson at all, the ground was barely playable, but he's had a decent previous month.

I don't believe selecting him will fix us, nor that blooding him is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Of course, we don't know the inner workings of selection committee, but he must be close. In fact someone on here quoted Choco as saying he's close. Picket Fence spoke with Jeffo at the G a couple of weeks ago and his spirits were very high.

There's 5 games to go before finals. Our chances of playing beyond that are borderline at best. Top 4 is now a pipedream.

Jefferson's time is soon, I hope they give him a go.

Give him a taste when he eitherĀ

a) plays a really good game at VFL level or,Ā

b) when we can no longer make top 8Ā

imo b) is the more likely of those two options atmĀ

It's easier to just blame him and continue to call for him to be dropped.............

Bowey hasn’t been in great form but i thought he was better yesterday.Ā

Sparrow on the chopping block

Billings was good so should stay in

Salem and Turner should be looked at if good options to come in

Brown should come in

Surely Sparrow has earned himself a stint at Casey but there are probably others that need to go before him.

I think Bowey did enough to keep his spot, he was pretty decent in patches. However, Howes and Hore are both viable options to replace him or Salem if need be. Salem looked off it again, maybe another niggle. Kolt probably needs a rest. Billings was okay.

As much as I would love to see Jeffo get a few games this year we're still in the hunt (though it doesn't feel like it), so we need to give ourselves the best shot possible at winning this week.

OUT: Kolt, Salem/Sparrow

IN: Brown, Howes/Hore

Fritta has been up and down this season, but has still kicked 35 goals - I wouldn't swap that for a young bloke that has done OK in the magoos.

Likely Gawn will be back this week, so that will let us play JVR up fwd more.Ā  That will certainly help our midfield and forward line.

Every game is a final from now on & we need our best team in.Ā  I really dont think Jeffo is better than Fritta at this point in time.

Ā

I expect Salem to miss due to his hamstring. I think Howes coming in as his replacement makes sense.

I am not sure who goes out for Gawn? Possibly Melksham or Tholstrup plays as the sub.

Kynan Brown was best for Casey and could come in.

I expect we will beat GWS. The Suns were actually +20 on X Score last match and the Tigers +5Ā on X Score the week before.

Is it worth playing Fritsch on the HB line?

McAdam/Jefferson in?

For everyone that is saying we need to drop x or y, you need to consider who we have to come in.Ā  We don't have a lot at Casey that are better options that who is playing.Ā  Billings had one of his best games for us after a long spell in the 2s and not playing a full game.Ā

Howes for and injured Salem is probably the only viable change, aside from Max coming in for just about anyone.

Brown in should be a lock, he's earned a game and at the moment looks like he'll offer more than Kolt and a couple of others.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
