For the most part the big godfather deals are organised about 12 months out and more often than not get into the media early on.

One of the reasons a Trac deal simply couldn't be done is because it was far too late for most clubs to figure out how they could find $1.5m on a cap that has a 90% floor, then they still have to make a deal that satisfies us. Look out for Victorian clubs stocking up on early futures this off-season though.

Kozzy would be an easier prospect for most clubs but still difficult for Freo, who will be putting a lot of their chips into Shai Bolton and possibly Liam Baker. Eagles might be able to get it done but again unless there is a homesick Victorian rebuilding sides tend not to give away their good young players. On top of that player for player trades are pretty rare. You can essentially do a three way trade by on-trading the picks you get from one club to another club for their player.

So far we haven't seen any Big Fish being reported as being connected with us except for Houston which has gone cold.

I'd feel worse about Kozzy leaving than Trac but if he does it will be for picks.

But honestly if either of them leave the writing will be on the wall with this group and we should be putting everything into the draft to find our next generation anyway.

If they locked in those two as 3rd and 4th mids to Young and Serong and then backed one of their big bodied young mids (Johnson, Erasmus, Simpson) to develop as defensive midfield cover they'd be in the perfect position to make an aggressive Andy Brayshaw for Pickett trade.

That kind of straight swap would be ridiculed by the dream team players in the media but in terms of impact on games it's about the right value, especially with how loaded Freo's midfield could be.

I can't see Melbourne accepting anything less.

Yes to Derksen. Given he’s played zero games, Dees would offer pick 60 to start. Probably be fair enough

Early days yet but we don’t seem to be in the mix for the bigger name players & not discounting the ones we are supposedly looking at who have all been delisted.. these trades are critical & you only need to look at what the lions weee able to bring in

Speed and spread is a coaching and fitness thing.

If we added numbers to the stoppage, we'll look quicker.

Agree saw in an earlier post that a poster was circling Logan McDonald who I thought was a real chance for a big KP forward. But seems as though those 3 at their age and experience need another big unit to take No 1 defenders.

Am hopeful JVR and Turner Petty and Jeffo that 2 0f those at least become real units with 50 plus goals each year. Then with a third tall plus Fritta and Kossie and another 30 plus goalkicker say AMW who I think might Be better as a forward from our list than a half back. Let’s see.

Not only did most of the key players they brought in cost first round picks (and more ...), they mostly came across when the Lions were struggling and had plenty of draft picks and salary space to play with. Not all that different to what we did with the likes of Lever and May back in the day.

Lions also managed to get some go-home picks, e.g. Charlie Cameron.

Also mentioned we're looking at Owies. Not 100% sure how I feel about it.

Other interesting tid bit was the suggesting that battle could end up earning band two compensation which is at the end of the first round.

Clubs are chasing the pick given it would likely otherwise be eaten up by a bid on Suns Academy prospect Leo Lombard, who would be expected to attract rival interest before that choice.

It has left the Suns again with the hottest draft choice up for grabs following the strong pursuit for its pick four last year, which ended with the Western Bulldogs taking Ryley Sanders (at No.6 after free agency compensation and a bid pushed it back).
