PREGAME: Rd 09 vs Carlton

I'd roll with McAdam for Chin sadly, and Laurie for Billings...

I'm also expecting a loss... compressed turn around, thus the impact on ability to recover between games. If it happens, it'll be interesting to see the media narrative.

Bowey allegedly ready to come back for Carlton. Does he come straight in for Woewodin? Thought it was his most comfortable looking game in defence tonight so would be unlucky.

Some fresh legs would help as we owe this mob from last year.

We can't change too much after such a great win. Billings is surely a definite out. So Laurie in, and Bowey into sub.

Some tough calls to make. 5 day break against a contender is a killer. Feel like we have to go for some fresh legs. Bowey(if fit) I would put straight in. Hunter, Mcadam and maybe Tholstrup could come under consideration.  Billings will go. Can Laurie play at Casey tomorrow?  Big call but does  Windsor need a rest? Certainly think Chandler does with that knee. One thing I'd definitely be doing tomorrow would be to take off the aforementioned players at halftime or soon after. Keep all options open and see how players pull up on Monday. Unfortunately Seagulls will runaway with it but so be it.

We usually do not make too many changes but if Bowey is ready he comes in for Woey and I would bring McAdam in for Billings.

Goody has said McAdam won’t be playing.

Billings dropped, maybe try Woewodin in the wing.

Not sure who should be the sub.

McAdams time may have arrived.

McAdam and Bowey in for Laurie and Woewodin if they're good to go.

Billings dropped to sub.

We’ll have a plan fitness-wise, given the 5-day break.

Billings and Laurie the two spots that don’t appear solid right now. Chandler deserves to stay on previous weeks.

5-day break after a big game like that is a killer. All teams have struggled, so not holding my breath. We’re also a bit screwed by Casey only playing Sunday, so none of the Casey players will come in.

Fresh legs?  Casey play tomorrow. It will be interesting to see who only plays 3 quarters.

IF Bowey is really ready I would bring him in for Billings and play Woey on a wing / HF

No other changes unless they think Laurie needs a full game at Casey.

If anyone’s in contention surely they get pulled at 3QT.

But seriously, is this not something the AFL and VFL can work on? Is it unavoidable to have Casey play on a Sunday when Melbourne plays the following Thursday?

As I have said more than once before the VFL is an absolute dog’s dinner as a development / support / back up competition, and the stuffed suits at AFLHQ don’t give a rat’s [censored].

Bowey is an automatic in if fit. Also would be keen to play Hunter ahead of Billings.

Pretty sure that tonight's emergencies - Hunter, Hore and B Brown will be rested tomorrow and are the only ones up for consideration for Thursday night.
I think there'll be no change except perhaps around the sub. Although Laurie only got one touch after he came on in the last Q he was good the week before. Still, I think I'd rather take Hunter and/or Hore.
My preference:
IN: Hunter, Hore (sub)
OUT: Billings, Laurie
Emergencies: Billings, Laurie, B Brown

Of course, if Bowey is fully fit it changes this, but I think he can get a 3/4 run at Casey and be back for the week after.

Hmmm I will let you know my accurate summation next Thursday morning.

Bowser is good 1v1, particularly for his size, fast and our best kick. If he's fit, he's in.

Woey was good, but suspect he drops back to the sub role.

Huge challenge off 5 days here. Prob the only disappointment last night for mine was Billings. Think he needs a rest.

We can win this game. Tough slog last night and playing off a 5 day break so won't be at all easy but Carlton have had a very difficult schedule. 3 games in 13 for them against quality opposition. they'll be tired as well.

No idea how the FD have planned around this but other than billings, who is in poor form, I'm not sure they'll rotate to manage fatigue

In: Laurie

Out: Billings

No to McAdam.  Not yet.  We have set ourselves for this 2 game block so no change unless needed. Hold the blues to 60-70 points and we will take the chokkies.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
