Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

It's not a bad example because almost every game Max plays he dominates the hitouts but we lose the clearances or they're close to even. That was the case in the two games we lost to Carlton last year.

I wasn't suggesting Max rest forward. He appears to be resting on the bench or spending very short stints across half back whilst JvR rucks forward of centre.

JvR is listed as 96kg. Witts, Briggs and Pittonet are listed as 107, 108 and 110kg respectively.

JvR can't be expected to alternate, albeit for short periods, between CHF and ruck where he's competing against men 10, 11 or 12kg heavier (and taller, and stronger).

Yes, I know he may be up against the opposition's second string ruckman, but not always.
And if Max goes down, then what?

I'd prefer to blood Fullerton this week rather than against strong and experienced opposition.

The alternative is to wait until the Eagles game (and that match might be tougher than we thought 2 weeks ago).

From what I’ve seen of Fullarton he isn’t any good in the ruck at all.

In fact, I’d be fairly confident if they wanted the best result JVR would still be the second ruck. A position he does well in. He can get beaten by height and movement but he has no issues with weight/strength.

Fullarton’s best attribute is he’s slippery on a lead. He’d give us another lead up option to go with Petty. Whether a 200cm lead up tall is worth picking I’m not so sure. That is kind of most of what BBB is, but BBB can occasionally reach the big mitts up and mark or bring it to ground.

JVR hasn’t really worked out how to set up his leads at half forward. He gets stuck in between. He’s great on the charge out of the square but our coaches are reluctant to take Fritsch away from that role.

Fullarton a key forward type? He’s kicked 6 goals from 19 games.

I’m struggling to understand the clamour for his inclusion. He’s never shown anything at AFL level to suggest he should be anything more than a backup.

As @binman said, we only need someone to take about 10% of ruck contests. JVR is that man and is also a dangerous forward. Fullarton could also take 10% of ruck contests but is not a dangerous forward.

Where is this 'dangerous' KF view and coming in to replace Roo coming from?

Merely suggesting he replace BBB for the Tiger's match at this point.

He went pretty well vs Port up forward and as chop out ruck for Verral.

BBBs done a great job to assist early but has dropped off the last few weeks from early season efforts for obvious reasons.

Thats not to say BBB doesnt come back.  But you need to trial / manage for alternatives if or when the opp arises.  Now is a great time for that to occur.

Also on 'dangerous' KFs i would argue we presently don't have one in a form sense.   BBB, Roo & Petty have all been significantly off their best in this regard so far other than the odd cameo from BBB & Roo.

Missed the point entirely

He's that man right now but will he be that man come finals?

Now is the time to try these guys and see what they can do. God forbid we get to the end of the season with someone injured and all we have is an untested Fullarton to throw in there.

We have shown we can cover most positions on the ground when we lose a soldier - Clarry, Gus, May, Fritsch, Kosi etc.

The only time we lost Max we had Grundy to step in.
Currently we have not one player to step up as first ruck. It just needs to be someone big and strong who can compete.

Who knows, our mids may win more clearances playing with a losing ruckman.

if it comes down to Schache or an untried Fullerton I’m voting for the latter.

If people think Schache is soft who lacks physical presence then they're going to get a rude shock watching Fullarton play..

I don't think this will be a cake walk. I know Richmond have been poor but it's a finals like atmosphere at these games and sometimes lowly opposition teams get the jump on the favourite. I hope we can make a big statement and totally obliterate them. Would love to see several of our forwards kick big bags. Especially Petts like last time.

I also think that Sestan is now very close to being selected. I have a good feeling about him.

Was part of the quartet that blew Port aside in the last quarter at Frankston before the bye. An impressive cameo 🤞on more to come consistently.

I watched him play and kept hoping it wasn’t so. I say play him in the big league and see what occurs.

Not possible that there's anyone softer, never seen anyone in 60 years watching football.

I’d prefer to blood Verrall rather than Fullarton as I believe he has a far greater upside. I also believe he has been more consistent at Casey than Fullarton.

So would I and as you say, has been for more consistent then Verrall as per the VFL player by player confirms.

Four games* for us, 14 disposals, 4 tackles, 2 hit outs, 1 goal. We've played a man short in those four games.

Unused sub in one game.

In fairness, two of those games he’s played a total of 20 mins (sub)

I would bring in Kossie, Hunter & Turner for Tholstrup, Salem & Brown.

Windsor to shift to half back in place of Salem and Hunter to come in on the left wing.

Kossie for Tholstrup is straight forward.

Turner could play at either end. If he plays back, Rivers would play in the midfield, and we have a taller defence. (Sparrow and Petracca play more minutes forward.) If Turner play forwards, it is straight forward in place of Brown.

Woewodin the poor old sub again.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
