Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Clint Stanaway on Channel 9 approx 1845h from Seymour. My guess is that, with hot weather predicted, they changed training time to beat the heat.

Clarrie very popular in Seymour (looking at clip).

anyone know when our first ‘official’ practice match is?

Sunday against Richmond at Casey.

This Sunday’s match isn’t an official practice match. It’s a scratch match. The official practice match is at Ikon vs Carlton on Wednesday, February 28.

Yes, the match against Richmond is not an intraclub though which I believe the original poster was referring to when they wrote ‘official’.

I've heard sillier ideas - moving May forward et al

Round 1 is going to be a tough game. With Tomlinson doing so much hard work, Salem back etc, our back and half back line looking stacked, I wouldn't mind the experiment of May forward. I picture him doing a Hawkins, oops I'm sorry didn't mean it clumsy wrecking ball. Meanwhile while Tomlinson is not the equal of May, he has definitely earnt some trust and reports on his renewed mobility and fitness are endearing.

Thinking out of the box, Swans are extremely mobile forward but not stacked with big defenders (I thought they had an injury concern but couldn't find it with a quick google). This is why I think could be worth a go with May as well.

Oliver plays, he doesn't need any silly hoops or second guessing, he's fit in mind and body he plays.

Have it on good authority that Tom is tracking along really well and a chance of featuring in our practice match against Carlton on Wednesday February 28.

That would be an amazing recovery.

Oliver – completed his 2km Time Trial pre-session and was fully integrated with the main group for match-sims (so yes, first session back with the group). Was on a modified running session program separate to the others. Had plenty of the ball in match sims. Was great to see close to the start of the season.

I choose to read this as ‘Dees back 6 as frugal as ever’

I like that they are training with a congested forward line. The best teams do that to us now because they know they can't go with a standard setup. We need to work out ways to get through this. I think getting the ball in Billings, Salem, Rivers, Bowey and Spargo's hands is the first step!

...and, more particularly in this case, the fires risk? Possibly 'on advice', too.

100% agree. All those guys are either above average or elite kicks.

The issue we have is that our biggest ball winners, Trac, Viney and Oliver are probably below average kicks.

Gawn also needs to focus on handballing off whenever he gets a mark, especially in the backline!

Has there also been an element of us willfully ignoring, or just plain missing, the uncongested parts?

I don't think we ignore it, I just think we need to get better at working our way through it.

This is one of the reasons a lot of teams prefer to score from counter attack, because it is the only way to get an open forward line.

If you watch what Collingwood did, they let us get to half forward but then flooded back and then all spread quickly forward. Hence it isn't always the best game plan to lock it in your forward line as it can be difficult to score.

Thanks, DJ, but I meant have we ignored (or missed hitting) uncongested areas that we've created?

I think there's two issues, 1. a lot of our mids haven't been great at hitting targets regularly and 2. our forwards aren't great at creating these areas of space by working together as a unit.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
