Johnny English? AFL media were giving the impression all was well down at the kennel. Lucky Rory Lobb is the understudy.

We are in desperate need of a ruckman that can take over from Max but our first major operation needs to be a key forward. BBB and TMac are in their twilights. Petty looks certain to head back to Adelaide at season's end if the 2023 trade week whispers are true and the jury is out on Jefferson. JVR can't do it alone and if he gets a whiff of home sickness in the coming years we are toast.

The window is slowly shutting if we can't replenish our forward and ruck stocks.

I'm hoping we're either in Ben King's or JUH's ear about coming to the Dee's on a Grandfather offer. That and the year after bring Harley Home!

Finn Callaghan would be one I’d want us to be talking to as well, we need to start playing his best mate Blake Howes and who knows, we might be a chance. Out of contract next year I think. Oh and throw the kitchen sink at Bailey Humphrey like we did on draft night, stuff the 4 year deal he’s just signed …

I'm thinking GC players will harder to extricate now that Hardwick is there and finals are on the cards

There's no way I'd be paying Petty a massive offer. If Adelaide pay overs then lets go shopping for pure forward talent

Why JUH? He has done nothing and can’t kick straight. I get he is still young but it’s a huge gamble to throw our treasure chest at him. Much better to go after Ben King if he becomes available, which is unlikely.

I like the English play  and he can play as a key forward. Can’t see Gawn playing after 2025 even if all goes right for him.

The first half of his season was fantastic but he dropped off a bit towards the end. Marshall would have been close to AA over him. Will be interesting to see how he performs this year.

Alternatively could we pinch GWS’ ruck coach?! They never seem to have a shortage of good rucks. Mumford, Preuss and Briggs. All journey men towards the end of their careers and all have done well there.

I'm holding out hope we can at least find the gem from the league-wide stock of proverbial 'youngish second rucks starved of senior opportunity but on the cusp of breaking out'.

If you do a simple sort of 'hitouts per game', you find the likes of Reilly O'Brien, Nankervis, McInerney, Stanley, Rowan Marshall, Ned Reeves, Darcy Cameron, Pittonet, and Tom Hickey. Throw in current 'on the cusp' young rucks like Matt Flynn, Tristan Xerri and Tom De Koning (those last two are both free agents in 2025 by the way) you have quite a collection.

That's a wide range of types and of quality but right there you've got about half of the rucks at AFL level last season being late bloomers, or only really producing at their second club, or younger guys clearly about to step up now at about 23-24yrs of age.

Ideally we're looking to recreate this moment -

"Jarrod Witts is traded to the Gold Coast by Collingwood in exchange for picks 44 and 62 in the national draft. Witts has struggled to break into the Magpies' line-up this year, featuring in just two games and falling behind American import Mason Cox in the club's ruck preferences"

But getting Tim English would be okay, too!

Very generous to say Pruess has done well. 10 games in 3 years - all in 2022. When he's not injured, he's suspended.

Learn from other clubs over a sustained period and ourselves with Gawn and Jamar, none of Nankervis, Cameron, Pyke, Bliczavs, Jordan Roughead, Dean Cox, Jolly or McEvoy were high draft picks. Most are either late, rookie or cheap trade pick ups

If you didn’t see the talent of JUH when he kicked 5 match winners against us at Marvel in 2022 then you are not a good judge of footballers.

Not yet 22 he had 70 plus shots at  goal in 2024 (35.35) and is a very hard match up due to his pace and skill at ground level. Then he takes flight and is a very good grab with an X factor marking ability. Another 2 pre seasons and his size will have him totally ready for AFL stardom and supremacy in 2026.

Just the same as JVR would have only really impressed about half a dozen opponents teams this last season having some quieter days as well.

Will kick 50 this year pretty easily if he fixes his set shot. Will be better than Naughton

Yes certainly over 40 in 2024 Jez. I stopped  short of nominating who will be the best in my post as I really don’t know. Both have a very high ceiling on their ability and if both can solve their dodgy goal kicking 125/150 seems a realistic total between them with perhaps 100 plus in 2024.

Wasn't McEvoy a top ten pick?

McEvoy was picl 9 but Cox was a rookie (wow).  Toby is an interesting one, passed over in his draft year but went pick 35 the year after to the the Sydney Sods.....

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
