Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

But but but we're told you can't change a game plan that quickly, or personnel

You can add GWSs rise this year to proof that you can make radical changes if you take a chance ....(simon)....

Unfortunately we will 100% be in the category where we say 'we're not far off, we doing 90% right, we just need a tweak here and a tweak there'. Simon will point to our record over 3 years and I get that its got merit but the big teams know how to beat us. We are way too predictable.

The game will go past us.

Already has  in my view  WE beat ourselves in the main  Nothing surer that Goodwin will persist with the game plan even though is doesn't work

On another matter anyone wondering how we had an identical number of people at the 2023 Grand Final as we did at the 2022 Grand Final?

100,024 people.

Smells very fishy to me

The last two numbers are 24 which is the year next year.

A surefire sign that we'll win the flag..

Lots of talk about Collingwood this and Collingwood that - though as we showed, they're more than beatable. But if it's one thing we can take from them, it's their ability to do what's needed in the dying moments of quarters. Whether that's a late clutch goal, or shutting down and defending a slim lead, it's the one area in their game that they have over all the other clubs, including ours.

Helps having a couple of really experience and skilful players to drive/lead all that, but I hope our FD and players were paying attention.

They do well to jump on the ball and shut play down.

Falling on top of the ball in scrums with a teammate lowering himself as well to hide the drawing of the ball back under the body.

I thought i saw two filths contesting the same ball on the ground in one contest with a Lions player standing over both, one hand up asking for the free.

Yet again, nothing to see here i'll just make up the rules or ignore them for this mob.

It’s the MCG’s capacity.

That may well be the official capacity but there spare seats around us, the MCC members was not full and there is standing room which is not regulated so much I believe.

Maybe their maximum allowable under fire regulations or such  is that number and so they can't announce any more than that,

How lame were KISS?

Well, given the location and constraints as a support to the real entertainment I thought they were fine. Big production, well known lyrics and recognisable riffs. It might all be prerecorded and mimed but its a large outside area with multiple speakers etc. The logistics to get it right are pretty  phenomenal to do for a temporary short term performance. Its entertainment. Dont get me wrong I would have preferred an Australian band but not sure who could pull off such a spectacular, AC/DC obviously but even MArk Hunter with the history of H&C was a bit underwhelming. its hard to produce the theatre without big performance history.

However the biggest negative was the overwhelming black and white theme. It was a disgrace, just reinforcing the overwhelming impression that the black and white team are the most significant. What viewer particularly the impressionable young would not want to join this group?

It would appear that even the umpires are prone to excuse and reward black and white play while analysing other teams and missing or ignoring blatant transgressions against them.

Worse this slavish adoration was reflected where a thuggish football act was condoned, giving black and white players the confidence to do whatever they want as they are superior. We can only hope the arrogance that this treatment can build will bring them crashing to failure. Unfortunately i dont see that happening as the AFL wills them to success.

We can only hope that our club can strive to get similar recognition through a concentration on the unique features of our game and the competition that is inherent  within it. The wheel will turn and we must stay the course GO DEES.

Can anyone tell me haw, that within half hour of the game Howe is diagnosed with 3 broken ribs?

Can only be diagnosed via x-ray, so he went to hospital then back at the ground in 30 mins?

Howe has told the media he has 3 broken ribs to tell a good story.

I thought Kiss was the best thing the AFL  has done on years.

High camp and just good fun.

Hilarious actually

I laughed from beginning to end.

Unfortunately it was clearly a set piece so they can say " Imagine how that would have looked at night?" when the night G/F question comes up again

AND they could have it facing the Shane Warne Stand if there was an issue with the sun and the cameras

We were penalized for this early in the year. So annoying the rules for them and the rules for us.

Spot on - mostly.

I wouldn't say it's surprising they won - they are one team that finds a way to win games, regardless of the situation of the game and the opposition.

They beat us despite 32 inside 50s less - that never happens. Why? They kept their structure and discipline, despite the fact they were being outplayed. That enabled them to hang on - and our terrible goal kicking.

Likewise against GWS and the Lions. GWS really should have beaten them. They just kept their structure and it got them through. Same today.

Because their structure is so discipline and good, teams are not willing to take the game on and take risks against them. The Lions are generally a free-flowing team. They move the ball rapidly. Today, they couldn't get any of this going because they were too risk adverse. Teams get too risk adverse playing Collingwood, and it plays into Collingwood's hands.

The one positive about Collingwood winning this year - yes, there really isn't a position, but there is one thing - Collingwood will officially be the hunted like any previous premier and coaches will implement full game plans to beat their system. It will involve taking the game on.

some agreement with you, but you cant escape that the pies were being beaten despite that structure. They were dragged into it by favourable umpiring decisions. And yes the biggest thing they take full  advantage of the opportunities.

Thanks Gunna. I'd say the answer is No.

It annoys me so much that our players raise their arms to dispose of it and the ball is knocked out and the whistle is immediate.
So many filth players get it, look for options, get tackled to ground and then don’t make an attempt even when they’ve had prior opportunity (how subjective?). At least they could try and fake hit the ball at least.
The conspiracies come in cause it’s like they just know they won’t be pinged for it.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
