Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Make no mistake, the love and passion for our club is well and truly alive.

The thing is, as many have expressed already, we have already lost any speck of respect and credibility towards the AFL and its minions (media, MRO, et Al).

They can all F off, Starting with Collingwood, Port , Kane Cornes, Eddie Maguire, Most of Channel 7 commentators, Most of Fox Footy, most of SEN.

I, for one, have decided to stop consuming any media that is not MFC related. I have my Demons pods, MFC social media and some Demons YT channels... that's it.

Additionally I will no longer watch non-MFC matches, nor engage in Footy discussion and "banter" with colleagues (yes Filth supporters that today were obnoxious and annoying, stubborn that their thug is innocent)

I am fairly new in the sport, 7 years. Unfortunately I have reached the point of disenchantment and apathy towards a tainted competition.

Life is too short to hold such a deep grudge against such a great game. I definitely understand the resentment against the bad stuff but the good things about our game override that, for mine. Ignore the footy media, unless we win of course

I guess the best of the sport is found at its purest form, local footy.

I may try to engage more in local footy, watch kids with passion for the sport and hopefully with none of the shenanigans and bad habits of some of the professional players.

I’m not sure how much local footy you’ve watched or played but I’d recommend you stick fat with the AFL if you’re trying to avoid shenanigans and bad habits

probably get roasted for this..

but i really do not know how I feel about this whole saga...

Is it Melbourne bias that makes me want Maynard suspended for life? - I don't know

Is the fact I think he turned his shoulder to cause maximum impact reasonable,  - it all happened in a fraction of a second, in mid air. - I Don't know

would I feel the same, if roles were reversed, and it was Viney poleaxing a Collingwood player  would I feel the same? (we have the Jack Viney made me cry thread where we celebrate where he hurts people)? - Also don't know

I do worry footy is getting to soft and soon it will become touch footy?. - yes.

do I think there are footy acts that cause unavoidable accidents, which sucks, but that is what you sign up for and are paid the big $ for.? - yes

Do  I think there should be a waver players should sign, stating they are aware their profession is dangerous and they accept the risks.? - yes

Do I think Maynard failed in his duty of care that a player should be responsible for? - yes.

Help...

That’s awful I’m very sorry to hear that.

I think the reason people are so passionately angry about this, is because the consequences for Gus could be far more serious than just missing a game of football.
No matter which way you view what happened, anyone who is a Melbourne supporter or even a half decent human being, doesn’t want to see a 27 year old guy suffer permanent damage to their brain.

For me this has gone so far beyond the incident itself.

It’s the pathetic love fest and obvious good guy PR for Maynard. The victim blaming of Gus. The vile carry on from not just gutless inbreds online, but the media who should do better but don’t.

The lack of empathy and almost callousness in which this has been handled is what really upsets me. It does not matter if what happened was calculated, accidental, or anything in between.

Somewhere along the way the footy world has lost sight of the fact that a young guy has suffered a really serious head injury that could see him retire, and are instead focused on the injustice of a player maybe missing a final.

What the actual [censored] has football become that we only show care and empathy when it suits our agenda but pile on when it doesn’t?! How can some of these ex players and journalists look themselves in the mirror and be ok with their behavior? I wonder how many of them would behave like this if it was their own son or daughter who got knocked out.

OOoh yes,   the aftermath from the collingwobble scum has be abhorrent!!   100% agree, and this has probably furthered my bias to how I feel about maynard getting suspended or not.

I'm not sure the defence at the tribunal was of high standard either ... maybe 5/10

But the prosecution was quite pathetic.  They really didn't say anything and it did not look like they were looking for guilt at all  0/10

And why was the make-up of the tribunal personnel changed at the last moment?  Were they placed there to get the desired result? To say they were soft would be understating things

Collingwood and the commentators have done a good job in black and white washing this. Maynard stopping by with wine and flowers, calling Gus.s mother even stopping to help some poor woman during the week. I cannot believe how poor the prosecution was, really at least a dozen people on demon land had built a better case that those clowns in the afl. We have collingwood bringing in experts and highly paid lawyers and the afl had a bunch of muppets who bought all the bull about a flying frisky. There is no doubt Maynard turned the frisby into a bump when he pulled his hands down turned in the air so that he led with his shoulder. Yet collingwoods defence was he had no time to react. As stated previously he would not have acted that way if it was a Collingwood player or umpire.he did what he did because that is what he is trained to do, yes he did a natural football action which was to bump.

These things happen… we’re happy to take a philosophical approach to sudden death by accident but not with sports?

I was pretty passionate last night too but when you get the opportunity it’s easy to be reminded how mentally challenged we as humans are. 😂

I had SEN on during part of the day in the background when working and caught the take of some Rugby League bloke on the Maynard "footy act". Very interesting comments, said unequivocally that if in Rugby League, Maynard would definitely be rubbed out for 4 weeks! Interesting viewpoint from north of the Barassi Line.

Did anyone else catch these comments?

Only one way to fix these [censored] and that is to make the big dance hopefully against the Pies and beat them by 1 point. Then watch Eddie and his sons have a cry and say they were robbed. Wouldn't that be nice.

Excuse my ignorance. I do not usually take much interest in the tribunal. When did unduly rough play stop being reportable?
As to the knockout i believe it is very difficult to knock out a AFL professional player without illegal actions. AFL players are trained to defend their bodies in milliseconds. In this case Gus did not have time to get in a defensive position because he did not expect an attempted smother to turn into an attack on his body- via a full paced bump.
Even in the brutal sport of boxing it is rare to see a fighter knocked out for 2 minutes, snd when it happens there are calls for the sport to be banned. I never recall Ali, the greatest to knock an opponent out for 2 minutes. How can we be a modern sport when an action allows this to happen?

Didn't hear it, but I know it's true.

In fact I suspect more like 6 weeks and could have been a send off as well.

They don't stand for that stuff.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
