Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So you mean to tell me it’s acceptable to jump at full pace at a defenceless kicker, knock them out and say it’s just a ‘football act’?
laughable

If you read my post properly you would realise I am not saying that🤔

Good points, however - Maynard has form here and had other options and we know he had a duty of care. He’s a buffoon and if he wants play like he does, he has to wear the opprobrium. God imagine if this had been Greene on Daicos. The media would be baying for blood.

And here's me thinking Pies would play fair in the qf.They live up to their moniker.

Can't believe this thread.

It was an honest footy action, fractions of seconds of time to make decisions.

I saw lots worse in my playing days (long ago).

What would Maynard's coach and fellow players have said if he had shrunk from the contest?

It is a contact sport FCS !!

I am ashamed to be a demonlander when reading some of the posts on this thread.

Well put Trev

Fractions of a second and I don't believe there's any malice. Much worse when I played

I hate the fact that Gus is suffering another concussion & only hope he can get back for the Granny

I want 6 weeks suspension for Maynard, which will send the Filth into meltdown

That way we can wrangle a deal with the Cottonwool to get him to the Dee's.

Fractions of seconds, people.

Fractions of seconds.

It is a contact game.

I am not playing the "I played and you did not" card but please consider.

Angus had the ball and was about to deliver a potentially dangerous kick. He is a dangerous kick, one of our best. Maynard saw the opportunity to smother and committed his body. His body.

Sometimes on the field, the mind takes a rest and the body takes over.

I am ashamed of some of the things I did on the field, but this was a football action, pure and simple. Maynard's past history is simply irrelevant. Ask any lawyer.

If I have to read one more post where people imply they know more because they once played football I’ll vomit.

Just because I drew a map when I was 8 doesn’t make me a master cartographer. Making comparisons is embarrassing, and honestly, a little sad.

Yes, let's all agree to drop that one.

Let's concentrate on the fractions of seconds and opinions that could deny a young player the opportunity to play more finals footy. What if a Melbourne player had done the same? Would we not all be defending a pure football action? It is a contact sport.

Nah times have changed mate, 10 years is a long time in afl , and roughness requires more discretion now. It wasnt fractions of a seconds btw... it was a tee off....

I’m doing my best to understand the point you and the other guy are trying to make with the whole “much worse in my day” comments. Not having a lot of luck.

So many times now, I’ve read the question: how was he supposed to make the decision to avoid contact within a split-second?

The argument is illogical.

He had 2 possible decisions to make. Maintain his smothering action. Or decide to turn his shoulder which he did. Both decisions required the same split second. Why preference one decision over the other? Because he did have time. And being a filthy thug, he decided to inflict damage on Gus. It’s obvious if you ask me.

The other nonsense argument is the footy act defence. I’ve never seen the shoulder smother ever before yet apparently it is a footy act.

Let’s concentrate on the young man who might have to give up footy all together in the prime of his career because Maynard doesn’t know how to smother without turning his body and tucking his elbow in 🙄

That wasn’t a football action. Maynard wanted to make a physical statement early, just like he did against Langdon last year. He stuffed it up, and he will be dealt accordingly.

He never once watches the ball. If a Melbourne player did that I’d be so disappointed in them, just like I am with JVR’s action this week.

Hey Ricky,

Watch the replay again.

You and I are both Demons but I don't have blinkers on.

If i had blinkers on, Maynard should not get one week. I do not have them on, so it will probably be 4 weeks.

I just think it is totally unfair to the young player. Not one of ours but a player talented enough to make an AFL list.

But life and footy is never fair. Injury cost Garry Lyon a chance to play finals when he could have been the difference. Jim Stynes' brain fade cost Robbie Flower the chance to play in a Grand Final etc etc.

Get over your playing days, what’s that got to do with anything

Have you seen the actions players are getting suspended for in the 2020s

Get over the tough man image, l played 25+ years ago & it would’ve been a dirty act then

How fair is it that Gus might miss not just finals but the rest of his career?

Maynard has form. Is a thug from a long way back. Not two minutes after he smashed Gus he head-butted Viney. Ffs he made a decision to go the man. He has to live with those consequences. Consequences FAR less severe than the consequences Gus will now have to deal with it.

I am in disbelief that you are actually feeling sad and sorry for Maynard and comparing his suspension to players who got injured in legitimate footy accidents and missed finals. Jesus wept.

Yet again - All year the AFL have said if you choose a certain course of action such as leaving the ground and the head of an opponent is hit then you wear the consequences because you chose the course of action. It’s that simple, everything else is distraction. End of story.

Maynard is known for running straight lines and is also well known for a chronic shoulder condition.  He dropped his shoulder to protect himself and would repeat that reaction again under the same circumstances... that is why it in total, the incident was a pre-meditated action, -- the line up on gus, not deviating from his line, and forget the player and his head and hit him after by dropping shoulder...  all worthy of 3+ week sanction...

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
