Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Oh well, an mcg final v Collingwood is probably a better matchup than the a 2v3 mcg home final vs the Lions. Given Hoyne has the Lions equal with us as the best teams in it with 17/25 premeirship metrics filled. Bitter pill to swallow though given WE EARNT that 2nd spot on the ladder.

We either play Collingwood at the G

Brisbane at the Gabba

Prefer the former, and odds have it a 90% chance

Port would probably prefer Brisbane at the GABBA than the Pies at the G IMO. For some reason interstate teams have never feared playing interstate against non-vic sides, regular season or finals.

Total myth that the Gabba is slippery, it's dry from early/mid July onwards. Playing in Brisbane is like playing in Melbourne, just with possibly higher temperatures. Totally different story at the start of the season.

Exactly. It’s why we belted them there last year and why their second half of the season record at the GABBA is worse.

Exactly right! I've said that many times before here but people still fall into this myth. It's the reason their finals record at the Gabba is average too!

Great !  All we need now is Port win  tomorrow and Dees can seriously throw everything at the Swans knowing we will play Wobbly Pies regardless of a win or loss  v swanees. Preferably a win to wreck Tricky Gils SCG corporate circus event.

Lions will kick goals through the eye of a needle  at the Gabba. Who cares.

Go Port.

A much, much better match up in my view.

The Lions are a very good team who have modified their system to beat us - primarily with that chip mark, control game they use.

And unlike the Pies, they also have a forward line that if it clicked at the same time, and they took all their chances, could run up a very big score.

I am much more confident of beating the Pies, who will have no Daicos and Moore first game back from a hammy.

Imagine the heat on Beveridge if they lose this.

I reckon if we play Lions in a QF at the Gabba we win!  We have an excellent record there.

The only reason we lost in round 2 is because May didn't play and Gawn went down in the first 5 minutes and we didn't adjust fast enough.  Mcvee was in his second game and Petty had a shocker.  Lever was a loner ranger down back.

Today's game showed how flaky they are at the Gabba!

Exactly. Not only is their win/loss record not as strong in 2nd half of seasons (and finals), their winning margins are a lot tighter because the conditions are dry and like playing anywhere else. No adverse humidity, dew and moisture. Just have to look back at this year - they've been unbeaten at the Gabba but only marginally won most of their last lot.

They are 1/2 the side they were when they don't get their customary 10 extra free kicks a game. Big reason they've struggled this season. The umps finally saw through them. Only took them 8 years to wake up.

Did anyone see the ARC review in the Bulldogs v Cats game which was a touched behind, handy zoomed in camera angle they found in 2 weeks.

I've seen multiple 'behinds' overturned this weekend into 'goals', which were no more 100% clearer than the Petracca kick against Carlton. I suspect they've been given a directive since then. Shame the AFL don't have the credibility to admit an error was made.

I've only been back less than 48 hours so I may be missing something as to why Coll is seen to be an easier QF than Port or Lions.

I noticed they lost a few games recently but they will have Moore, Murphy and McCleery back.  They rested Elliot for half the game last night, Sidebottom played in 2nd gear and everyone will have two days extra rest than us.

If we play Coll and lose we are facing a game each week to the GF and an away PF.    I'd rather an away QF than an away PF.

Now that the Lions have won, I'm hoping for a Port loss tomorrow.

Some good points you make LH and welcome back.

Yes while you were away they had some very wobbly losses including Hawks.

I guess weve beaten Collingwood and perhaps thats why the confidence. Will be good to go watch us play in a final as well.

If we lose, then its a different story and you are correct, it would be a long road home.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
